Jacques,

I got it from the drawings. The turret height is the height of the turret shell btw.

Also the Chinese and Czechoslovakian built ones were not painted to Russian standards.

thanks for all info - and sorry for delay. I purchased the masterclub white metal BMP-1 tracks ahead of this kit. So this is a small comparison.

Kit track is very quick to build up - it simply clicks together.

it is also quite detailed

it fits perfectly around the kit sprocket

this is master club - white metal links - it came with supplied wire - but i found it to thick in gauge and damaged the links. So I used florist wire about 0.3mm to build the tracks

very well detailed and looks same size as kit supplied track

resin sprockets are supplied (also supplied are some spare links in resin for fitting to the rear doors)

I had a feeling the resin sprockets are slichtly bigger - and I compared the fit of the track to both the kit sprocket and the MC resin one-

1) trumpeter sprocket

2) resin sprocket - it seems to fit better as expected

very good fit overall - pity its mostly going to be hidden

right - best i get painting !

cheers

The kit tracks look good too. Someone at ML tells the kit sprocket is too small. This is certainly why you have the feeling that MC one is slightly larger and that the fit of the tracks is not perfect over Trumpeter sprocket.

Hi Marc,

Kits tracks are looking good, so are the Masterclub ones, but fitting with the aftermarket tracks seems a little bit odd: the road wheels dont go all the way down. Is that a easy fix or something to worry about? And how do the kits tracks look like on their place?

Merrry Xmas everybody!

I think they thought it was small compared to older drawings, and in comparison to the ESCI/DML kits. Hopefully people will go back to real vehicles to learn what is right rather than the previous kits . . .

The guide horns on the Masterclub white metal tracks seem longer/taller than the kit track, so the roadwheels are not sitting down in the track because the wheel rim is hitting the tops of the guide horn.

From a quick look at the photo's in this thread, the guide horns do seem to come up higher than the rim on the roadwheels, so the Masterclub tracks are probably correct, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the Trumpy roadwheels are a little bit on the thick side, ie a little bit too wide.

Can be fixed by simply bending the guide horns out a little bit, and or trimming the wheels rims down a little.

The kit supplied track looks very very good tbh, white metal tracks will give you track sag, but that track sag is hidden by the mudguards, so you dont really gain anything.

In my stash I have Masterclub resin track links and wheels which I bought to improve the Esci BMP-2 kit. Any opinion about them?

Hi Gents - hope Santa had a sled full of plastic armour for all of you

Olivier - I think the MC tracks are designed around the Zvezda kit. Im not sure about size but they are very similar to trumpeters supplied track.

Mauro - glad you have the kit - its a very enjoyable - stress free build.

Chris and Mike thanks for support.

Kurt - agreed !

Matt and Batsaikhan - Im in agreement. The model is very light it is "floating" over the guide horns. Its simply a case of running a road wheel down the length of the track to widen out the guide horns slightly. The other thing I have to do is add some weight to the hull - just a case of raiding the piggy bank !

I would agree that the trumpeter kit tracks - I think will work very well. I only bought the MC tracks because I was not sure what Trumpeter would provide.

I decided to go very current and depict this Syrian BMP-1 that is credited to this site

I know exactly what you mean - i really had a long think if it is appropriate to model such a subject given that this is where many people are at this moment fighting and dying while others just try to survive.

But I came to the conclusion that im trying to capture a part of current events in an accurate manner - not to glorify or make a political statement.

As an aside - despite the scale of the conflict in Syria - references to the AFV`s in the conflict are not as easy to find as I expected. In fact this one single photograph is the solitary reference I have for this particular BMP-1.

Just got this kit for x-mas. Very impressed by the quality but am a bit disappointed that Trumpy went to the trouble of giving us separate covers over the infantry firing ports but couldn't give us the internal portion so we could show the kit with a few of these covers open.

Not asking for a full interior but I don't think it would have killed them to include this. Also, not sure why they opted to have the periscopes on the rear doors covered and not give you the option for glass peri's like the rest of the kit.

I know I'm nitpicking, still very happy to have such a nice BMP after having to deal with the horrible Dragon kit. Just hoping that the aftermarket folks take an interest in this and address some of these needs.

Also, I've seen some pics of BMP's with a canvas boot over the rear section of the 73mm gun where it recoils into it's housing. Does anyone know how prevalent this was? Would it be found on a Syrian BMP, circa Yom Kippur war?

Regards,

John
