I will be doing a in depth BLOG of this kit. I will be pointing out many of the small detail changes needed. This will focus more on building and fixes rather than painting and finishing.

Just picked up mine yesterday, will be waiting intently for your BLOG. The kit passed my first test though. It looks like a BMP, even more so than the ESCI kit already on my shelf. I'm interested to see what little changes should be made.

Aw guys, you make me blush.

The first thing I will tell you is that the older BMP-1 kits (DML and Esci) are actually closer to 1/32 scale. So all those conversions you have for those old BMP-1 kits will not really work on the Trumpeter kit.

The Trumpeter kit is as close to 1/35 as I can measure compared with the blueprints that I have.

The tracks are fabulous. I will NOT be replacing them.

My review is submitted, so look for that soon.

Here are the KIT measurements I have taken with my calipers. I would guess accuracy to within +/- .1mm

Turret:
- Top 33.6
- Bottom diameter 44mm
- Height 8mm

Width - 84mm
Length - 192.5mm

Idler Diameter - 17mm

Sprocket (with teeth) diameter - 19.1mm

Road wheel diameter- 17mm
Road wheel thickness (rubber portion) - 3.6mm

Rear Deck Hatch - 14.1mm x 22.9mm

Turret hatch width - 17.7mm

Hull periscope (part F6) - 4.2mm wide x 1.8mm tall

Driver hatch diameter - 15.2mm

Commander's Hatch width - 12 mm

Rear Doors - 25.9mm wide x 27.3mm height

Rear fender/flap - 9.5mm wide

Main Deck engine grate - 18.8mm long x 15.8mm wide

Side exhaust grate - 7.0mm wide x 19.1mm long

Track pad (without the end connector) - 6.0mm wide x 3.9mm long


Using the drawings in Wydawnictwo's BMP-1 book #312, the model seems to match very close to true 1/35. It matches the hull length, width listed from several sources perfectly for 1/35.

No, I am telling you that taking those conversions and trying to convert them to the Trumpeter kit will most likely not work well. Keep them for the flood of DML or ESCI kits that will flood the market now and build them as 1/32 scale kits. Or else sell them to others who don't mind. Not so sad...and think of all those people with the resin tracks and running gear!

On a side note, Sergej is looking over the Trumpeter kit right now.

I am one of those guys ... spent hours trying to fix the old DML kit and now have a -1 and -2 for sale ... LOL
