Howdy Y'all
I was able to get a little more work done. I thought I would try experimenting with paint chips. I put most of them on the bottom of the back of the dozer blade, I could cover them with mud, dirt, etc. to tone them down a little. They are also not as noticeable in that area, just in case I mess up.
First, using Vallejo German Black Brown and Black Grey:
Second, using Dark Rust & Light Rust; thirdly using Vallejo Yellowish Rust.
Starting to see the finish:

Still making progress on my Komatsu bulldozer by Tamiya. Did some chipping and used the 'salt' method on the blade. Next step is a coat of Future, decals and some pin washes.

Lakota: Looking good!
I received some replacement controls and will be getting on with my build, as soon as the weather allows me to paint. This whole painting outside thing is becoming a real pain.

Matt:
Are you using rattle cans? I've been able to do my airbrush painting in the garage. I'm doing a small model and using acrylics though so maybe that wouldn't work for you. I was worried about the cold air because I live in the Rockies but that hasn't been a problem so far.
Good luck and good modeling.

I use both rattle cans and an ab. I can't paint in my garage, as my dad's car is there. He does not trust spray booths to filter the paint. This is the reason I can't spray, in my house.

Diorama is progressing well, just waiting for a figure and some guidepoles to finish before painting. Cross fingers, it might work. Pictures this evening

Lakota nice! good worn looking colors on the blade.
I wish Tamiya would produce a 1/35 version of this, or a 1/25 - 1/24 for that matter

MiniArt recently announced a new dozer, in 1:35. Which one eludes me, now.
I installed the levers and sprayed the primer, on the D9R. I'll have to add slat, after the campaign; and will try to post some photos, before I lay down the base.

More dozer models are really needed. I was hoping 1/48 scale models would've had more choices by now. I've haven't used pigments very often and am toying the idea of trying "pigment fixer". I'll look it up next time at my LHS only 200 miles away.
Take care,

This one.

Sweet! Want one or two…
Mirror Models made a D7 too:
D7 tractor http://www.mirror-models.com/35202/35850_s.jpg
D7 with dozer blade http://www.mirror-models.com/35851/35851_s.jpg
… must have these too
That D9R looks gnarly in pictures as 1/1. The model look as gnarly to build too
Actually, there has been a lot of odd ball engineering sort of kits lately in plastic. But you're right, not so much in 1/48

M26 coming along nicely. I have this kit as well but only built the double drum winch system in the back. That is a whole model kit itself
BTW, those figures look like the set I had from the old NITTO M4-18t Tractor kit . . . ancient

Howdy Y'all
How's that Churchill coming along? Years ago I wanted to build one but my eyesight won't let me do it now.
I got in a little build time this weekend. I gloss coated my bulldozer with Future floor wax and did some washes with oils and AK washes.
Next step-flat coat and add some pigments. I never did find some pigment fixer at my LHS. Any suggestions or alternatives?
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Don: Looking good. I have always used isopropyl alcohol to fix pigments.

Don, Good idea to 'Future' coat the dozer before washes. It helps the flow into all the right places.
I also use isopropyl or just water with a drop of dish detergent. Neither is permanent so I can manipulate and embellish later with a wet brush or damp cotton swab.
… and the Churchill is under a base coat green right now, thanks for asking

Howdy Y'all
I'm calling this one done.
1/48 Tamiya Komatsu Bulldozer:
I'll put some better photos in the Gallery when we get some nice soft sunlight for photos. We've got an overcast snowy day today. Perfect for working on models but bad for photographing them. This was a fun campaign with a nice looking ribbon. The kit is a dream and I recommend it to anyone interested in the subject matter in 1/48 scale. I was disappointed with the dust wash I used, a bit overdone. I can get away with it because construction equipment gets dirty and dusty. I would go easy on the weathering when building my next armor model.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Lakota: I have recently cured my tendency to overdue the weathering. I don't think it looks too bad.
Sal: Looking good.
I'm making it my mission to begin painting the D9R, today.
