Well, I was able to sneak a little time in on the '9'!! Not much, but I am getting close to getting those tracks installed for the final time!!
I attacked the drive sprockets. After a nice rust base, a little AMMO Chipping Fluid and things just pop into place.
A light coat of water and a little easy scrubbing, insta-chips!
The sprockets were holding me up somewhat. I need to start putting some parts back together on this one, she has been naked for too long!
I also sat down with some Black Dog Stowage.
A couple light washes the gear should pop out rather nicely! Thanks for hanging about!!

Looking good, T. I was kind of wondering when you'd get back on this beast.

I managed to sneak in a little time on this one tonight so I am a couple steps closer even if they are baby steps.
I broke out some pigments and attacked the bogies
Using a cut down stiff bristled brush and a cotton swab I just applied some Vallejo Dark Steel and followed this with some burnishing to bring out a little luster.
I have a few more things to touch up and I can move forward to start some detail painting and then some decals...thanks for dropping in!!

Plug plug plugging away!!! I was able to hit the bench for a bit last night and started messing with the tracks. I wanted to get some preweathering done on theses before they get mounted.
Starting with the base painted tracks and some Vallejo Pigments I went to town. There are several steps I use to do this, I will show a couple here and show a bit mor in some sort of feature once I am done with the build!
I put things on and take things off!! Apply the pigs, let dry then remove some pigs!!
Apply more pigs...yup, you get the picture!!
Then there are the washes.....
Just as an added layer, I like to lay down some steel pigment in the middle of the of all this and revisit applications after...
You can see the difference between adding the steel effect vs the dirty weathered look.
I still have to play around a bit more with the tracks, certainly I will spread out over a couple days I think. I did also manage to break out the decals and start applying them.
I have some detail painting in the near future along with some chipping and a whole bunch more weathering to go!! Thanks for dropping by!!!

The lower half is looking great, T. I also like what you're doing with the tracks so far.
I need to pick up some of that AK dark steel. It looks like it's just what I'm missing on a lot of my tracks. I've got the worn, dusty part down pretty well. I just need something that'll work for the bright steel high lights.

Thanks a bunch Bob! Most appreciated! AK, Vallejo, AMMO all have comparably great results. Woodless Graphite pencils work really well too. Especially for pin point applications and fine scratches. One bottle of any of the above will last you for ever! Very little gets used to so easy on the wallet.

Nice job, it looks so realistic.
What are you using as solvent for the vallejo pigments? Water or something more complicated?

Hello Raphael,
Thank you! The medium I used was water. I do, from time to time use white spirits (thinner) as well with the same results but if I don't have to use other solvents I will usually stick with water!

Hey there!!
Not much in the way of an update. Things are at that point just before the homestretch of weathering. I started to bring the pieces together, some for the final time and others temporary until I make the down and dirty push for the finish line.
Next up on the block will be some dirty stuff and button this one up!! Thanks again for swinging by to have a peek!!

Most people would have called it quits after the last set of pics that you posted 15th. Now we're starting to see the difference between a good modeller and a great one!

Seemed to have missed you there a few days ago Bob!! Thanks btw!! Yeah, probably should know when to quit...
Still sneaking some time in here and there on this one. Started some of the dirty stuff last night.
A little plaster and some pigments...some fine sand too!
Work in some light pigs while still wet...
Then some darker pigments
Some cleanup with a stiff brush and let dry good...
I still need to work at the D9 itself but moving forward!! Thank for stopping in!!

Holy cow, I love the step-by-step tutorial. You are doing some great work with that brush. You sure you're not a spokesman for Mig, and Vallejo? It looks like you have everything of theirs...

Thank you Bob! I really appreciate the kindness my friend!! All about having some FUN, right?
Thanks a bunch Mike, for the kind words!! I have fortunately been able to amass a small army of little bottles to help fill up the bench over the years. It is not always the product that make the build but rather the build that makes the product. Using some things that do work seem to work for me and giving the credit, where credit is do!
