Hi folks! I need to build a siryan t72 av. I need to get it accurate and I wondered what should I buy?

Wich kit is the best base and wich AM should I get?
This pic as been sent to me as a base:

image (2) par asmodeuss, sur Flickr

The model would be factory finish.
Since I am not a modern armor expert I would need some help to get this one right.

Thanks guys.

Phil,
My first guess would be to start with the tamiya T-72M1 with the
Miniarm, B35050 T-72A/AV Turret with anti-radiation layer (late version) from Miniarm, plus plenty of ERA from miniarm/Voyager and some scratchbuilding. or the elusive Modelpoint T-72AV set

Also get the six spoked wheels
Miniarm, B35005 T-72 Wheel set late version For T-72B, T72BM, T-90 or
Panzer Art, RE35-114 Road Wheels for T-72/90 MBT Tanks

The hull seems to be a T-72M1 so maybe there is no need for a new hull.

There is a excellent 1/72 build (I would be happy if I could get the same results in 1/35) that maybe will help you as a reference.

This interview may help you to get some of the details

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Good luck with your build. I will be following it since I want to build that tank too.

I'm afraid the conversion is going to cost you a pretty penny. DML and Zvezda have produced T-72s with ERA but the turret armor doesn't look quite right. The Syrian civil war has made pics of their T-72s more readily available, a blessing for modelers, grievous though that conflict has been, so it surprises me that we don't have a newer T-72 kit with ERA already. In addition, the Syrian Arab Army has deployed T-55s fitted with skirt and turret ERA; this upgrade would also make a worthwhile subject, if the correct accessories could be found for it.

jphillips, money is not an issue since it is a commision. I`ve seen other kits that have tried to depict a correct t 72 and I was not to impressed. We all know the turret and road wheel issue with the Tam kit but I think it is still the best base for any t-72 build. But yes I am glad I wont be paying that bill.

Hi Phil!

If you want to build a great one, don't even start to do the [auto-censored] zvezda or italeri! Trust me, one of my friend is doing at same time as me the Tamiya and although the tamiya is not perfect it is much more better than enything else in the market.
If you want to save money there is a new company SBS https://78462f86-a-1ae83386-s-sites.googlegroups.com/a/sbsmodel.com/www/resinsets/T72B_netre2.jpg?attachauth=ANoY7comOaw_NmDTKWVy5GMYpxlDHnf3hoKcLXJzbV9a0VTBXKuCzF5Nxw5qUvmUAzIK91RZjfDDPhp6e25Mcu6jNHcJeHWllsUXm0ZP4s6LnJXzfPvNWdC2m4ztfskFQf56iw50iliuos_bwN7iR4tEe00MO9WOGiGSa_pLq6xbexTRn6A1uCqnb3yjHJaiCc4XKgJCSorbiQhGXILkWlftAwkaLETG1Q%3D%3D&attredirects=0 they have this turret with all the necessary deatails.
Use the voyager P.E. but be careful, that is for M1, there will be couple of thing what the P.E. is not including, and also there are many parts, what they just missed out from the package. Sadly. Anyway a nice Friull treck and a lovely RB gun burrel would be nedded as well.

If it is help for you here is my building method in my blog, I builded the Dolly Parthon but you can see what is the tamiya http://myscaleworld.blogspot.ie/

and here is my friend building blog from a hungarian forum, no worries about text, just watch the photos!!

I hope I could help

I was only worried about the accurracy issue with the radiation shielded turret for an m1 av version but, now I am set. Thanks to you guys! as always, Armorama is the shnitzel!!

Phil,
The SBS is a T-72B turret . You may want to avoid having problems with the ERA placement, because the shape of a T-72A and T-72B are different; the reason why they were called Dolly Parton and Super Dolly Parton, respectively (there will be a lot of areas that will be exposed in the frontal and upper area that will tell it is not a T-72AV, especially if you leave an area uncovered by the ERA) In addition the gunner's night sight are different, 1К13-49. See the difference in the link post #14114. The T-72B1 sight is the same as the T-72A sight.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for asking. I am a big fan of modern Russian tanks, especially the T-64/72/80. Lately I have been buying more than building. Not a lot of time for so many new models.

I started building the Skif T-80UD planning to use the eduard photoetch and T-80U tracks of the Xact Scale model. Half way, I decided on using the SP Designs T-80U conversion instead, since it will end up sitting in the closet forever with the other three . I'm cleaning the resin parts at snail pace, so it will be some time until I will be able to post some pictures.

Regarding the T-72, I am planning to work on a quick build for a T-72M1 soon, probably a Syrian one (I want to use the eduard photoetch and trumpeter non-workable tracks). I will be getting the SBS T-72A turret soon (I was very impressed with their T-72M set). If I can use the parts of the Blast Model on the SBS turret, I will use the Blast turret, and leave the parts for another project (T-72A Zapad 81). If they are not interchangeable I will use the JS turret instead if the SBS is better and I can fit the Finnish box on it.

I want to build the Syrian T-72AV, and use the modelpoint turret. But I am afraid that it it will be taking a lot of time and money (tracks, photoetch for detailing and side skirts, ERA, etc), and it will make my AMS worst. There is a lot of room for superdetailing. I have been getting picture in the internet for this project, so if there is anything that I can help please let me know. It would be awesome if you can make a blog for this build.

Best Regards,
Raul

I could not tell you what the best kit is for the T-72 but do check with "You Tube" videos of Russian supplied tanks in the Syrian Civil War...I entered "knocked out tanks Syrian civil war" there is a wealth of data including camo schemes and damage to tanks as well as what they look like after getting hit.
It is tragic. But it is history and its happening now.

I'm glad to see you've started your project. It's too bad putting together a Syrian T-72 with ERA has turned out to be such a pain, not just expensive, but difficult as well. It shouldn't be that way!

Hi Philippe,
Nice start! I have been thinking lately of also building a T-72AV using the Modelpoint conversion.

It seems that the TPD sight to be corrected in the Miniarm turret. Gergo corrected it in his build
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/199271#1667158

I see the Miniarm T-72B hull. If you are modelling the T-72 in the photo, please consider two things. The T-72 in the photo has the glacis with the added plate, and the front fenders are the one's in the tamiya kit not the later ones.

Good luck,

Thanks for the heads up on the tpd and fenders Raul. Link is most apreciated!
I am not reproducing a specific tank, since it is a commissioned build I have my orders hehehe
I am supposed to depict this tank factory new, or lets say, freshly reconditioned. The picture is the origin on wich I will
base my details.
