I'll probably do a simple base for the carrier and a few token soldiers marching along the roadside. My plan is still to eventually add the carrier to a larger diorama. I've got a M4a4 "requested" for Christmas as well as a few British figures for crew. But it'll be next year before I can start on those and I don't want to risk not finishing.

Good plan Alex, but we have a year on this so you can always slip it in if you have time.

Here is some work on the base of mine.

Thats all for now, some more this weekend hopefully.

Buggar! Looks like a redecorating job on the buildings. Thanks for pointing it out as to be honest I wasn't sure what colour Dutch city buildings were and couldn't find any decent pics and I do like to be as accurate as possible. Oh well c'est la vie! Good job they're not stuck down yet...lol.

That's coming on nicely Pete. I like the chain link fencing. I've seen that quite a bit in footage from the battle and in photos.

Hi Peter,

Your build is coming along nicely!

What did you use for the fenceposts?

Bit more work on the Bren gunners. Denison smocks look a bit sparce re camo pattern so they'll be redone but happy with the poses. The PIAT crew are part way there and I'm happy with the poses.

Hi all,

I will be building a Staghound from the 2nd Armoured Battalion Irish Guards. I found a good photo of one in Aalst here.

Here is the kit, obviously I will not be using the rocket launcher.

I can get most of the decals by stealing from other kits. This vehicle appears to have a name the front and turret as well, I only see the 'GER'. I think I see a 'D' before the 'G', so possibly the name is 'BADGER'??

At any rate, very cool campaign, I like the variety and some great looking builds.

Sorry Mike your question was fence posts not fence. The posts are from the Tamiya angle iron used on D-Day beaches. Forget the name but them heated and bent to shape and superglued in place.

Here is a little more work

Figures from Tamiya converted.

Some ground work on the base.

I have the figures from the Bronco jeep kit to do as well, so it will look prettty busy once finished.

Hi Peter,

I like you base so far. Would the streets have been that wide though?

Cheers

Hi Al
Not sure about the road the picture I have is a bit tight angle. The jeep is pretty close to the fence in the picture the angle doesn't show. I will post a few more and you can tell me what you think. I can always cover the road over on the other side a little. I have added some more foliage to it last night.

a bit more weathering on the road too

Placed the soldiers for scale

I will upload a few more of the road, and try to find some more pictures to go by.

Cheers Pete

Al this is the picture from the front. Tell me what you think. I can't find any pictures that give a decent view of how wide the road is.

As you can see there is a little bit of area between the road and the fence, which shows up in the pictures I have. I didn't feel the road was that wide, but want this to look authentic.

Hi Pete, it's looking good. I think in the original pic you took the jeep was closer to the fence hence the road looked huge. It still looks a bit wide though but not massively. If it was me I'd just add some more vegetation to the left hand side, maybe about 2 inches so it narrows the road a bit and frames it nicely but it's your dio mate and it's shaping up nicely. Just a suggestion

I've done a bit more work over the last few days. The PIAT team is just about done, just a bit of tidying up on them and faces to paint. I've decided to leave one building green and am doing the other one grey now. I picked up some Dutch posters and streetnames from Reality In Scale which are nice. Adds to my stash of propaganda posters I've compiled off the net (lot cheaper doing it that way and I can have as many as I like...lol)and printed off. Just need to put the windows in this building now and weather the frames. I used oils for the weathering on it which I'd not done before this project and am quite pleased with the effect. Slather it on then take it off with make up sponges (Poundland to the rescue!)then just give bits a dab. I've decided to populate the second building as I'm sticking some internal walls in so it'll be a mixture of Paras in fire positions and wounded. Means I may have to buy some more DML British infantry to convert but having said that I'm enjoying this build. So far I've not used any commercial airborne figures
as they're all modified British infantry...lol

I finished building the Piper Cub (mostly) and I started painting it. I put the green down and I'm now just procrastinating to do the grey. Soon I'll have the wings on (doh! Forgot to paint them!) and everything glossed up.

Hi Peter,

Are you doing the advance of the South Staffords, location Urechtseweg as it enters Oosterbeek? The fence belonging to the Sonnenberg estate? If so then the road size looks a little too wide, but it is hard to judge accurately from the pictures I have. You're correct the troops seem well over towards the edge of the fence but the vehicles I believe are slightly further out as per your second example. One thing I do see is that the cobble lines run down the road rather than across it.

Hi Karl,

Paras are coming along nicely, I like the poses for the PIAT team.

Good progress chaps.

Cheers

Hi Al
Yes that is the scene advance towards Oosterbeek. I served with the Staffords so wanted something a bit more personel. Again the pictures I have are not too clear, if the cobbles run down the road they will just have to stay as they are as too much to rectify. I will take an inch or so off the other side of the road by making the verge wider as Karl suggests. It will be close enough I think.
Karl thanks for the comments and your conversion of the troops is spot on, they look good, and camo looks good. The buildings are coming along and the extra work makes a big difference to them.
Look forward to seeing everyone elses work progressing.

Found this clearer picture showing the cobbles a bit clearer.

There are a number of pictures on page 321 and 322 of Op Market Garden then and now on the Staffords advance. Look forward to developments.
