Got the M-41 started. Simple kit, not much detail, so I don't see this build taking more than a week. After a couple of hours last night, here's the progress:





I plan on using .010" sheet styrene to cover the bottom of the hull motorization holes, etc.

I just need to find some aftermarket decals. I might spend a little and pick up some workable tracks, even though the kit vinyl tracks aren't too bad, considering the kit molds date to 40 years ago (1975). Pretty crazy.

So this is what happens when you build a Tamiya kit with only two sprues and a single A4 sheet and the weather is "chilly" outside...







I've seen photos of the M-41s with the pintle mount and no MG, which is how I've got this one set up. Also, only the rear antenna was fitted to the example I'm doing, so I deleted out the front antenna near the commander's cupola.

This is just dry fit, the upper/lower hull haven't been joined, the wheels are not fixed, and the turret is loose. Lots of clean up work yet to do, including filling in the driver vision ports with clear tinted styrene. Archer Fine Transfers make a nice Lebanese Civil War (1976-1978) set with Arabic sayings (and translations) for vehicles so I'll probably pick it up for the build.

Lots of clean up still left to do. For some reason Tamiya didn't mold the stowage box sides on the upper hull, so I'm going to make them up with strip styrene as best I can. Also the rear idlers show lightening holes on the box art and in some examples, but the idlers in the kit are solid, so I'll probably drill them out to be a bit more accurate. Quite a bit of extra work to do, but then again, the kit was less than $15.00 so I'm okay with it.

On examining the kit, some pieces are missing and the hull has had a very poor attempt at being built. I have a couple of other kits, in my stash. I'll see what I can come up with.

Finally getting around to start this one.



Not sure if I am going to use the figure set or try to cobble something together from the spares. Also not sure if I am going to use all of the Dshkm set I have the old zevezda AA set to use as a fall back if it does not work out.

I am joining with a Dragon 1/35 IS-2m tank from the Korean War. The markings are for Chinese "volunteers". I guess the Korean war both qualifies as a civil and proxy war.

More to follow when I get started.

Good news. I managed to break down the Sherman. It came with everything to build a Firefly and that is the route I will go.

Great that you join us, Raul. Will you make it a Korean War "buddy" to my IS II or choose another conflict? The T-34 and T-54/55 seem to have fought in almost all the post WWII conflicts.

Thanks for the warm welcome! The T-34 will most likely be a Chinese/North Korean in the Korean War (Jesper, it seems that your JS-2 will have a "buddy").
Here is an update. If it continues snowing like it has so far, I will finish it soon .

After two quiet 12 hours night shifts (in my local IR) I done this much, I decided to do it OOB except maybe to replace barrel with brass/plastic tube...

Alexander, nice choice. I always expected this kit to be crap based on the ugly and old school box. It actually looks quite desent and with crisp detail based on the pictures. How is the overall Fit?

I was sceptical at first but this kit assembles like dream, there are 235 parts and it is FUN ! Overall fit is excellent, Trumpeter however was carried away with small parts and they intend to break when cutting them from a sprue !

I'm changing my entry. I will be building the GAZ Tiger, as it appeares(d) in the Ukraine. I hope the Crimea is considered a civil war?.

I've been taking my time with the Hobby Boss LVTP-7 in Argentinian Markings. It's got a pretty nice interior and I want to get it right. Anyway, blah, blah, blah...update time.

I got things rolling with the road-wheels, drive sprockets, and idler wheels. Pretty standard assembly. I did go ahead and prepaint the insides of the wheels with green.


Jet thruster units...parts and then assembled. Definitely a long way from Academy's old LVTP-7.


Suspension arms and the drive shaft and driveshaft guard for the jet thruster units.


I decided to go ahead and pre-paint the lower hull and wheels.


Out of paint. Added the front headlights. HB does this with a recessed insert and the lights are individually molded. Adding the lights is a bit fiddly.


Stepped back to work on the tracks. They are individual track links with separately molded rubber pads. They require a bit of cleanup. I staged out clean-up and assembly over a couple nights. The links appear to be semi-workable as they can click together. I'm not sure how well they'll stay together without cement.


Road-wheels painted up and mounted. Also added the thruster units guards. Those shaft units won't really be noticed once the outer cover pieces are added.


Time to start on the interior. I decided to pre-assemble a lot of the interior and paint as much of it as possible before installing them in to the hull. I dry-fitted the parts and some will require some work to fit.








And that's where I am now. I'll probably start with a base coat on the interior tonight or tomorrow.
