No limits on gun size, origin or application. Just make sure it's an un-started kit and we should have a wide assortment of weapons!

As far as a start time, I think John will say after December I'm sure. You guys decide how long you want it but one year may be too long.

Self-propelled howitzers, guns etc. Sturmtigers, Brumbars, artillery pieces... tow behinds or rail guns. As long as it's not classified as a combat tank.

Did I miss anything? So we have four interested... we have time!

Jeff

So pretty much anything that is indirect fire, as opposed to direct fire (tanks, TDs, etc.). Am I reading that right?

I think the safe rule is that the spirit of the campaign is a subject that falls in to an artillery type role. You could probably go wild and even push for a Napoleonic cannon or even a medieval trebuchet or catapult. Anyway, lots of choices out there.

Jeff,
I've never enlisted in one of these Campaigns before, however, I am intrigued. ... So here come the dumb questions:

1. Would ant-tank guns i.e., the German 88mm be allowed or excluded?

2. Are dioramas allowed in this campaign or just individual projectile hurling devices?

3. If so, can a pre-built model i.e., a tow vehicle be introduced into the dio scene since the major focus would be on the weapon?

This sounds great, I'm in. I just read the rules and see that a nebelwerfer or Land Mattress wouldn't work. OK, I have several other heavy artillery pieces that I know will fit the bill, and all un-started.

Cheers!

Yep... pretty much a more open concept than one specific area. I did use Marks analogy on the opening post that I believe hit the nail right on the head as far as what we're doing here.

Thanks to everyone for showing interest as we should have some fun here and learn something too all in one!

Sure Paul, as long as it is the fire support version of the turret, the 75 mm Howitzer Motor Carriage M8 ~ armed with a 75 mm howitzer, like this:

(very cool choice!)

Chris,

at the top of this page there is an Enlist in blue you can click on that will take you to the signing up part.

AS for the rest of your questions, Yes dioramas can be built for the campaign or stand alone.

Jeff is going to say no on the anti tank guns as they are direct fire weapons.

The tow vehicle is going to up to Jeff to answer.

Cheers

That's kind of what I thought. And forget about the pre-built tow vehicle -- just confuses matters. I have some ideas if/when I decide to enlist.

Thanks,

Mike and Chris, you can build a mortar diorama or a half-track with a mortar mounted on it!

Trains with any gun will work (as it's a rail gun) or the Loki SP carriage.

I just thought opening up a Campaign for a change would be a pretty easy one to pick from as it's not targeting one specific vehicle or weapon.

Hi Jeff, I see you're at it again you old campaign-a-holic
I have a question, would the T28 Super Heavy Tank or the Churchill 3 inch howitzer fit in here
If it's pushing it then no prob, I'll find something else

Kimmo;

Interesting definition-question!

The BT-42 mounted an obsolete British howitzer... so it could perhaps count here as a HOWITZER... But the BT-42 was constructed and intended / used for tank-tank battles - the Finns hoped to use the rather big (108mm) howitzer as a direct-fire anti-tank weapon to counter those well-armored Russian T-34 - not as an indirect-fire, building / bunker-smashing / support weapon. Sadly, the BT-42 turned out to be a true dud in its intended role.

IF I were making the call, I would shy away from this interesting "on-the-edge" machine and look to one of the many "real" (meaning here, actually intended for and used as) howitzers out there - but that's only my opinion!

PS: It's the definitions which get to us! The other side of this "point" comes up in that "Wurf" campaign which Jeff has so kindly taken up from me... THAT campaign aims at rocket weapons. One of the many curious items which pops up there is the so-called "SturmTiger" (Sturmmorser auf Farhgestelle Tiger I)... which was a huge rocket-launcher mounted on a Tiger I hull. NOT any sort of true "mortar" or howitzer or gun, in the conventional sense, but a rocket-launcher! The SturmTiger is a good contender in a rocket-weapon campaign. It probably should NOT be included in a Guns and Howitzers campaign, as it was neither!

All else said; the Tamiya BT-42 is a cool kit and the build comes out awesomely ugly-but-wonderful!

Okay, here's the deal. If it means that someone walks away because they have a T-28 or BT-7 kit then I will allow it. I knew there would be a "gray area" and that this would come up. I mean, should I allow 105MM Shermans or the M45 Pershing too? They have howitzers!! They are more a close support tank/vehicle than a SP Howitzer.

I was hoping for more of Self-Propelled vehicles like the M7 Priest, the Soviet S-51 SPG or a M110A2!! I know we're crossing the line with the Sturmtiger (but no Brumbars) and it can take hits much like a tank, but it didn't go up against armor or tanks.

So, like I said... I will allow it even though I should add a preamble to what you can or cannot build but that would take too much of my time (much like this is) AND I thought the title of the Campaign would be plenty. I must be getting old because I AM rolling over here but I just want you guys to have fun with this.

I know I said "ask first" but gesh!

Have a great day guys! Next I'll be getting requests/messages that I sign my name way too far down the post and if I can change that or my name too. Oh, wait a minute... that's already happened!

So which munitions carrier ( “Munitionsschlepper” (Ammunition tractor) ) do you think would be best for my Karl or Loki? This is the Ausf.F Fahrgestell.

Or this one, the Ausf.D/E Fahrgestell version?

Tried looking up some info on them and I just need to know if the difference is the chassis?

TANKS guys!

Jeff, what about recoiless weapons. I think I have an unassembled 7.5 cm Leichtgeschütz 40 around here somewhere. I was thinking maybe depict it in a firing position, maned by either paras or mountain troops.

If not, no big deal. I might just do a towed field piece.
