I live in London. This means I have a kitchen table I have to put everything out from various cabinets, shelves and whatnot before I can work... I am looking forward to leaving this city, but I'm a civil servant, and my department is, unfortunately, here... The government really should move to some cheaper region for sure.
Norwich, for example, is nice.

Don't be so sure, yes,Norwich is nice but I have been allocated the cupboard under the stairs in our new place so SWMBO doesn't have to look at the accumulation of stuff.......(though it does mean I can sneak in the odd treasure undetected if I can get to the postman first)

Managed to seamlessly fit references to Harry Potter and Rumpole of the Bailey into a single sentence. That's talent there.

I finished up some of the major move-in projects for my wife and son, so I got some time to make some progress on my modeling room. I got some pics on the wall and my lathe bench installed which I've wanted to do for a while. I think I'm going to leave the room in this configuration for a while so I can get back to building some models!

My station is mostly set-up. Still tinkering with set-up but it is much better than the storage boxes I had been previously using as a hobby desk. Lots of stuff on the go at the moment.

Daniel,
I really like the look of the paint rack you have there. Looks like a good solution that takes up minimal space. How does it work out in real life? Any disadvantages?
Cheers,
Paul H

It is definitely a space saver, but there is a downside. I cannot see the color labels without either pulling each one until I find the one I am searching for or stand up and look down onto all the labels and pluck which I need. Not a big deal, I'm slowly dabbing a bit of the color on each cap to narrow my searching time.

@Keith- the microscope and soldering station are old hat to me due to the electronics background, but the lathe is relatively new. I'm still learning the possibilities it has and the fittings I need to make it worthwhile... I wish I could have found an old Unimat with the milling setup that wasn't too expensive but those old units are going for crazy prices. With that being said, I'm made the plunge and I'm committed to the Sherline path now...
@Daniel- thanks for the info! I've thought about getting a rack that I hang on the wall to use as a sort of file cabinet and then using the one on my desktop as a quick storage area once I've pulled the colors I need for the current project. Don't know how it would work over time, but I may try one of those wall mounted racks...
Cheers,
PH

Recently completed Phase II of my office rebuild, with the addition of my cabinets/countertop display area. The top of the cabinets will be made multi-level by placing slightly higher back pieces so that I can display 2-3 rows of vehicles without obscuring those in the back, like tiers. Above I will anchor another narrower shelf running nearly the length of the counter about halfway up; this will display my boats and railway kits. The cabinets will get faces once I decide how I want everything stored away. I am putting up drywall in my garage sideroom to make it my assembly/painting area and at that point this room will be just for displaying, not working.
Toying with the idea of making the counter one large base with ground cover, foliage, etc., but since some vehicles are DAK, some Western Front, and the rest Eastern, that would be hard to arrange as I don't know how much room I would need for each terrain type. I will probably just stick to small bases so I don't lose the rest of my hair trying to figure that one out.

lots of cool and creative spaces, gents; no pics to display at this point but the house we just bought has a basement workshop with built-in workbench, pegboard, and set of shelves; added a couple shelves, paint rack, and tool storage; don't have a big stash (60-70 kits) but the existing set of shelves has space for all of them (with some space left over); have done some work in between unpacking and settling in;

More great spaces for carving plastic! I'm still amazed at the different forms our work areas take. Obviously there are many different right ways" to put a modeling space together.

Very nice work space. No windows or clock (visible) so there will be no annoying distraction of the passage of time.
