I converted my former PC repair room into a new model building room after I started working as a Special Ed teacher. Before I was working in a side room of my garage where the AC system and the hot water heater reside, but is now just storing my stash.

I am slowly in the process of replacing the cheap adjustable shelving for built-in shelving and cabinet space and will have a new PC desk which will also house a paint booth. For now I have a small work table I built a while back but I think I'm doing pretty good for only being in here for the last six months. It's also my display area for now.

The garage room stash:

Really like the wraparound setup. It's not really an option for me if I want to listen to music while I build. I think it's coming along nicely!

My work space. I think the peg board helps a lot and I really don't know what I'd do without my sink.

As I said before, Its a semi finished basement ,I built some shelves along a wall and I buy bookshelf cabinets to display the finished models. The few planes I did I hang from the ceiling .being retired gives me plenty of time !

Trust me, I spend as much time as I can in my space. When I was on active duty in the Air Force and had to move, there were 4 years where I had no place to work at all. I have been very blessed to have a place to set up and work and I'm not complaining at all.

There is nothing like listening to Adele or Pink Floyd when you are cleaning up mold seams or painting. Even individual track links aren't bad when listening to music that flows through tubes!

Paul H

I hear ya brother!! My many PCS's in the Army left little room for a model building area and of course, you can't accumulate much of a stash as there is no room for it during the moves, etc. And built models!!!??? How do you move them??
I am not a ludite but I insist there is nothing that sounds as good and natural and"transparent" as an analog magnetic tape recorded album on vinyl. The soundtrack of life.

OK back to the intended subject of this thread (show us your work space)
While I have an 8 foot folding table in the semifinished basement at my parent's house lately I've been staying over my girlfriend's house most weekends. I've learned how to build a kit on a 12x36 board across my lap with all the kit parts, tools and paints in a shoebox. Actually works alright.

I got real lucky. My daughter grew up so I have the extra bedroom now. For a work table I found 2 of those formica covered draw and T/V shelves you see in some older motels. I just screwed them together and framed out supports for them on rollers. My wife modles on and off so I share the work space with her. But each section being 8 feet long with 2 drawers, I have a good size work area. I have added a few old kitchen cabnets for paint, glue, brush and chemicals storage. I also have a tobacco store down the street which was tossing out one of the tall single pack sales shelving units which I took out a few shelves and it now holds all my diorama building materials. A few file cabinets, book shelfs and an extra desk where I research and holds the computer also. As for the stash. I have the closet which messures 3' by 4' 8" and is 8" tall; and ran out of stash storage already. All in all, I consider myself a very lucky modeler to have such a work shop. Also within this space I have set up shop for glass painting. My wife has titled this room, the fantasy factory. And my brother in law comes over on Sunday mornings and I show him the tricks of the trade. He's building his first dio of a mussle car in a garage.

My current cave, in our unfinished basement. A multipurpose place of some solitude, although even that is fleeting from time to time... Having a 5 year old girl cramps my independent man nature, but I'm not complaining. Love being a dad!

Had a nicer one up in the 3rd bedroom up on the second floor of this same house a few years ago, but when we adopted our girl we needed to make the room int a spare room for guests....which relegated me to the dark, cold basement, the cave like basemen....but did I mention I love being a dad!

All of these caves of modeling are extremely cool! It's amazing to me how creative someone can be when it comes to making a place to model. Some of my best work was done on a 6 foot folding table sitting on one side of my bedroom.

I'm keeping an eye on all of these creative solutions and shamelessly stealing as many ideas as I can.

Small, but efficient I would say? Any way you could move your overhead light back towards you more? I think that may be putting a lot of glare into your eyes? I have the exact same lighting as this. The overhead shop light and then the small desk lamp.

At one time I used to model on the kitchen table and had to put everything away after I quit for the day. It all fit in two shoebox size cartons and the kit box I was working on. There was no "stash" as the only model I had was the one currently being built! Maybe that method isn't so bad?

Sounds like a great set-up for sure. This reminds me of my youth when my good buddy would come over to my parents basement and we would build models for hours and hours till we got bored and went outside to blow them up or light them on fire with a viking funeral in a puddle somewhere.
Being a kid was so much more fun back then I think.

Jerry thanks for the question on the sink. I use it for clean up, rinsing acrylic brushes, fresh water for decals and rinsing out left over pigments etc. Its also a great place to wash up after using oil based products. I'm vary careful not to put anything bad in the drain.

As to my cardboard paint booth, I've been negotiating with my wife to let me vent out a basement window. When I finally win that argument I have a setup ready to go and the counter space necessary. She just doesn't see it the way I do for some reason ?

All very cool spaces..

Generally the lighting in my hobby shop is pretty good, but to avoid shadows was the primary reason of putting the light strip where it is.

my pictures downloaded but I cant find them

When the Armorama system says the pictures downloaded but you can't see them, the file sizes are too large and the system does not actually capture them. I typically resize my photos to a large web/internet .jpg file.

Very nice space. I really like the book case arrangement. My book cases are small and not attached to the walls, so I keep my armor books and aircraft books separate. Maybe when we finally settle down an arrangement like yours will be possible.
