Mike,

Also note the 2 different bases that Gino posted.

The 2nd one pictured is a AM-7239E and the 1st one, which you made, is a AM-7239B model.

Is either more correct for the different radios or does it matter? Is either more common than the other? It shouldn't be too hard to model the E base out of the B base.

IN this case there might be a little confusion because we are talking about the antenna signal amplifier on the left side of the base rather than the audio amplifier which, l believe is located on the right side of the base.

I agree with Gino. Just let me know when you are happy with the SINCGARS and I will order some!

I'm pretty happy with the design currently. I'm just waiting to get in the set I ordered so I know it'll print correctly and without too many problems. I ordered it as "print it anyway" so no matter what, it'll print and they'll send it to me. This will speed up the process some but they won't notify me if the engineers think it won't print correctly.

I have never seen the AM-7239E mounting base with the single radio. I have always seen the AM-7239B mounting base. It is usually for a two radio system, but can be used for a single radio mount as well. Also, either radio (ICOM or ASIP) can go in either (or any) base without modification. That is how the SINCGARS system was designed so it could easily be reconfigured for different scenarios or vehicles by adding or deleting components. It is basically plug and play.

Here's something else to think about. If you added another LS-671/VRC speaker, it would have the correct amount (4) for two complete radio sets. You would only need 4 handsets as well. The rest of the pieces are nice to have, but not needed for the SINCGARS setup. I guess the other two handsets could be used on the PRC-152/154 as well though. So maybe just add the speaker box.

I can add the 4th speaker. What I might be able to do is remove 2 phones and replace them with that audio amp base. I could also make the second mount into a AM-7239E from the 7239B that it is now. So there would be a B and E model included. Not that the difference would be all that noticeable but it's a possibility.

Also, unfortunately it seems my first order was damaged or some other kind of unfortunate occurance occurred so that it had to be restarted. The status went from "In Production" to "Pre-Production" for some reason. I'm not sure why. I haven't been updated.

I vote for the extra speaker box and separate amp with its mount. I would also rather two of the AM-7239B mounts as they are the more common ones. Like I said above, I have never seen an AM-7239E mount in use, I've never actually seen one at all.

I ordered a small gaggle of these for myself. Would it be easy to tweak for 4 1523A/B/C/D instead of offering a pair of each type of SINCGARS?
We had the "older" radios in both stacks on the AAVs from about 1995 through around 2008 or 2010.

Ok, I'll get started on that mount. It's the MT-6353.

I can make a basic set with just 1 7239 and either the A-D or E-F. I'll also make a set with the 1439s.

The AM-7239C/D/E is able to be set up for data interface and networking. It also is interfaced with the EPLRS and PLGR.

Gino, maybe the reason why I saw more of the E models was because I was in a Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.

The AN/TPQ-36 had E;s in it, well at least ours did, I'm guessing it was to send info to the gun batteries and such via the radio's.

Ok, so I think this is what could he a viable strategy offering all of these:

-Full original set with 2 AM-7239B, 2 RT-1523A-D, 2 RT-1523E, 4 LS-671, 1 PLGR, 1 DAGR, 4 H-250U or MT-6353, 2 AN/PRC-152 and 1 AN/PRC-154

-RT-1523A-D set with 1 AM-7239B, 2 RT-1523A-D, 4 LS-671, 1 PLGR, 1 DAGR and 2 H-250U

-RT-1523E set with the same as the A-D set but with 2 RT-1523Es

-RT-1439 set with the same and A-D and E set minus the PLGR and DAGR but including a new mount similar to the MT-6352.

Does this sound fairly acceptable or a good idea?

When I was typing it it almost seemed like it! Almost like a foreign language. Especially at 1 AM!

And I certainly hope so. I aim to please as the saying goes.

I can add to the alphabet soup if you want to make an AAV specific (older) suite.

1x AM-7162
2x AM-7239
1x LS-671
1x H-250/U
2x C-11291
4x C-11133
1x C-11135
4x RT-1523 A/B/C/D (alternate "new" set would supplant two with E/F)
1x PLGR (alternate "new" set would supplant with DAGR)

Only thing missing is the EPLRS RT-1720C(C)/G

Unfortunately I can't do an EPLRS. I can't find enough info on it to even start it. But I could do that AAV-specific set. Heck, I could do a lot of sets with what I have.

Any plans to draw up the HEMTT air brake cylinders?

Yes the cylinders are still on my design list. And no, I have not forgotten about the Bailey Bridge components either.

Actually I won't be getting my set in yet. Mine went back into pre-production for some reason - some part of it probably broke along the way. It just started production again earlier today.

I hope I can see some of the sets being used in some builds here. I actually don't have too too much of a use for the SINCGARS currently.

Mike F.Y.I., saw your SINCGARS listed on the Shapeways site a few days ago. Looked real good to me but then the last few days it has not been there. The A/C unit is however been there the whole time.

The set is still up. It should be the very last item under the 1/35 section when in order of "Most Popular."

Found it when I did a general search for "SINCGARS" but when I looked under "Miniatures/Vehicles/Military/1 35" it was not there. As I say the A/C unit was there but only the older radios showed up.

I see the problem. I had it originally under the "Other" category in Miniatures. I moved it to Vehicles-Military-1/35.

10-4

Minor comment on the A/C unit: The Shapeways caption says the box is hollow which is great. However those two rectangular ducts at the top front of the unit should be opened up into that hollow space, They should appear wide open to the inside of the box rather than plugged just a few inches back from the front.

OK, I opened up the front vents. They extend into the hollow space now. I also started on the brake chambers. The front brakes are almost finished.

For the brake cylinders, should I include the mounting bolts or do they not matter?
