Chris,
From the dorsal view you can really see that slant. I wonder if switching them to opposite sides might account for the wing's dihedral?

Have already done that Gaz made no difference at all. Guess it's going to be remove them and then sand till upright should really have thought of that beforehand.

Ken - Which anti-tank gun are you working on? I have a number of these Trumpeter kits and thought they looked pretty nice in the box. The difference in barrel lengths is a bit shocking for a modern kit. Have you found out which is correct yet?

Paul.. Soviet 100MM anti tank gun M1944{BS-3} From the pictures I have found the metal barrel from RB models captures the look. Not happy with the kit, but will finish it for the camp. I hope not all Trumpter kits are like this ,they have some subjects no one else has oh well.

After 10 minutes work removing each one individually then sanding it and putting it back before working on the next I now have them sitting at ninety degrees to the ground. At least as far as my Mk.I eyeball tells me. Here's where I'm at currently.

Chris,
That looks a lot better. Weird, but still a lot better.

Late joiner here, but I've had this Tamiya Pak 40/L46 in my stash for a while and I have a diorama idea that could use it. Plus, I just got a new airbrush and am dying to use it. My current armor build still has a ways to go, so I wanted to build something quick that I can paint I'll paint the figures from the kit but might supplement a couple more infantry with small arms as well.

I have the hardest time taking decent photos of anything in Panzer grey. Photo is terrible, but here is my panzerjaeger with painting done.

Next will be oils and pastels after a shot of Future.

Hey fellas, some nice work going on in here.

I've completed the chipping. A few more things to tend to and then I'll apply a clear coat.

I also started the figures. Wish me luck with these. Lol

Kyle,
Thank you for submitting your PaK 40 and joining the team!

Mark,
Your PaK 35 looks well used. I found that when I had trouble getting my unpainted zimmerit to show in photos, I'd put a light source above it at different angles to make the detail stand out. You know, throw some shadows under things and turn the flash off. That being said, I'm not known for photo quality.

Dustin,
Love your Elefant. she looks quite chewed-d up.

Hello,

this is my weekly update what I did have done at my Marder III Ausf. M. First I decided myself against using the Royal Model Set 312 (Marder IIM Part 2) with the etched upper hull shields and fighting compartment floor. I ommitted it because it is so easy to thin down the nice Tamiya plastic walls and the floor too Looks not different as when I will use the etched one from Royal Model. Aside from that you will need to punch and glue over 250 rivets in different sizes for inside and outside of the upper fighting compartment walls and, compared with the Outcome, I felt this is now worth the whole effort.

This said I started with the vehicle´s front part and installed the spares track holder and different other small parts

after this I replaced the grips and handles of the upper hull. The small resin shackles at the lower gun mount shield are from Tiger Model Design. I´m very impressed how they can cast such tiny shackles in this superior quality. Just one letdown is the percentage of loss rate of them to the ever hungry carpet Monster during preparing.

After I had Training with she shackles I did finished the outer backside of the fighting compartment.

...then I continued with the etched grousers box and the tool clamps - and this vehicle did hat a lot of tool clamps

In a final Close combat action I finished all tool clamps of the vehicle´s outside just before my calm hands began starting to shake and my appetite for a well earned beer stopped the construction works.

After a recreation pause I did finished also the very tiny locking levers on the two sides of the backside fighting compartment hatch. Each locking Levers are made out of three miniscule parts which also need to be bended and folded. I expect I could work now as a brain surgery too after this experience

right now the actual stage of my construction is the beginning of installing the interior parts. I did placed and glued the wireless and its components and checked the ammo racks. Unfortunately BLAST made an error within its otherwise excellent resin set: the ammo racks are made out of two parts: the front ammo and the backside ammo row. The front ammo row of the left compartment´s side have the wrong angle. BLAST provided two front ammo racks with the same angle instead of two different angles for the left and right side. I decided to still use BLAST´s set in that way that I just turn the wrong one at the other, wrong, side and use it as I don´t want to show empty ammo lockers (difficult for me to explain but if you see the picture and compare the sides you will know what I mean)

Thats it for today, to be continued...

Cheers

Thomas

Kyle,
I build that pak-40 a couple of years ago, and as it being an older Tamiya kit I was surprised by the good detail and ease of assembly. Added it to my dio as well. Good luck!

Thomas,
Those shackles and tool clips look amazing? I wouldn't dare show such close-up photos of my Marder.

Very impressive!

I think there is a huge variation in Trumpeter kits. Some, like the Su-15 Flagon are boxes of agony, other like the KV series of tanks are delights to build and look at. I buy it if I have to have it and Trumpeter makes it and check reviews first if there is a choice.

I have never checked dimensions on any kit. If the model looks like the photos of the real thing I'm happy, perhaps not the highest standard in town . . .

It's a view I hold Paul, I've never dimension checked ANY kit. I will read reviews about kits but I'm looking for build issues and problems so I can formulate ideas of how to proceed with the kit not if it's dimensionally correct. If it looks like a duck etc etc. Way too much heartache involved in trying to render an accurate kit.

I do however understand why some of our brethren want to build the most accurate replica they can and that's spawned an entire correction set genre.

Have I used correction sets? Yes I have but only where it will add detail in an otherwise spartan situation. (Think cockpit detail sets and control surfaces). It's all about doing what you want with your hobby, passion .... reason to live LOL. As long as it brings you joy and satisfaction that's the key isn't it?

G'day everybody

Finally, I've managed to finish a group build. I'm calling this one "Surrender at Iserlohn", and following are pics of the completed model.

Have fun with the rest of the campaign!

Regards

Gary: Thanks! Glad to be here!

Chris: Yeah, I've been pleasantly surprised by the part fit. I had a little trouble getting the breach / barrel assembly onto the "rails" (for lack of a better word), but I think that was mostly builder error.

Rob: That looks fantastic! You really had to paint a lot of figures for that. It paid off, it's a cool, interesting to look at, piece!

I'm gonna finish assembling the gun / figures then post a pre-painting photo as a status update. I decided to order the AFV Club Pak 40 accessory set so I have lot's of boxes and several types of ammunition to place around the gun in the eventual dio. The ammo case that comes with the Tamiya kit seemed suspicious to me, because I could not find any reference photos of it. I did a little more digging and the consensus is that it is a figment of Tamiya's imagination, or more accurately, an upscaled Pak 38 4 round box like this one:

I found a couple of good resources while doing research.

The first, and likely not new to people who have been doing this for a while, is this incredible site, which has information about every sort of WWII German ammunition and storage crate imaginable, as well as really good pictures. The site is in French, which I do not speak, but the Chrome translation feature did a good enough job to get the gist of the information.

Also, I was looking at videos of the gun firing and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7fhBm1ouSU . The YouTube channel is Forgotten Weapons, and they have a bunch of high quality videos about various historical weapons.

I thought I'd share those resources, as I found them pretty neat Also, after watching that video of the Pak 40 firing, I simultaneously very much want to fire one, and at the same time, would be very nervous to do so.
