I blacked up the inside of the chimney and added a wash to the potatoes
Also added some green stems to the apples.
Finally calling it finished see ya all at the next campaign

No I am going with a dark green and black.

Gee, these 150- projects go quickly! Less than a week after starting I've been shooting paint.

Oh I envy you. Never a great lover of the big '50s cars but I did love the trucks.

I too used to view 1950s car negatively. I cut my teeth on English sports cars in the late 1960s and saw the big boats from the 1950s as very poor excuses for transportation. Now decades later I see them in a different light. Now I see that in addition to utilitarian transportation, the cars were mobile sculpture. They were an expression of a society that had been through tough times and still retained a belief that the future could be better. They were forward looking and made no excuses for it.

Modern cars are just PC transportation appliances, dull as dishwater and constantly apologizing for their existence. I own one but do not love it.

My truck is a 1951 model 3600 3/4 ton model with a longer wheelbase and bed than the AMT model which is of the more popular 1/2 model. I have two of the kits and some thoughts of a kit bash to build the 3/4 ton version.

No I wish they were, they were given to me by my uncle who passed on awhile back. They are1/24 scale from Danbury Mint, hood opens doors open they are really really nice.

My pickup is done.

Primed in white. Rigging is a pain.

There are two color options for this kit - Light Gray or Light Blue. I'm liking the Light Blue option because I doubt I'll do anything else in that color!

LINUS - Looking good just as it is. When I was a kid these trucks were everywhere and your model captures the look pretty well.

Mike - Your Flying Flea is a pip. I had one of those kits a few years ago but sold it on Ebay in the midst of a clean-up campaign. Now looking at yours I'm not so sure that was a smart move. . .

Light blue is on. Started on the wheels and the initial color is on for the prop. About to gloss it up for the decals.

Touched up the wheels/tires, finished the prop (lookin' good!), painted the silver rectangles on top of the top wings, and gloss coated for the decals.

We'll see how things go between now and the weekend.

Here it is. I'm liking the blue with the black insignia and wood prop.





I have confirmed, I don't like rigging on anything smaller than...maybe 1/32.

Just a few steps on the prop:

1) Clean up and prime,
2) 1st coat - Vallejo Japanese Uniform Yellow,
3) 2nd coat - thinned 50/50 Vallejo Flat Earth/thinner - painted two lines the length of the prop, both sides, to simulate multi-layered wood (looked like yellow, earth, yellow, earth),
4) 3rd coat - thinned 70/30 Vallejo Chocolate Brown/thinner - gave both sides of the prop a wash with a semi-stiff brush giving the prop a further defined look of multi-layered wood,
5) 4th coat - "painted" with straight Future,
6) Added the decals and center hub (painted Dark Iron),
7) Final coat of straight Future.

I think it turned out pretty good.
