Here's my latest work on the KV-II upper hull. Needed a bit of filling (not much) and had to use some clamps to keep the plates tight together.




I was able to get a lot of hull and turret construction done this weekend. Just taking my time and rolling along with this one as I am thinking about what I want the base and groundwork to look like.

Now with some extra time this weekend, I stated work on the turret. No issues here with construction, though I had to remove some molded in location marks on the turret sides for optional parts that are not called out for this particular version. Now I need to decide if I want to use the turret grab handles provided in the kit or scratchbuild my own with brass rod.



I left the rear turret hatch door unglued as I may have it propped open a bit when I place it on the diorama base.

Chuck, your "Big Turret" Kv is shaping up nicely. I've always liked this version of the Kv....it's like a tracked pillbox. Glad you got some extra bench time in this weekend. Happy modeling my friend.

I was not going to put a crew in, but changed my mind when I found picturers of Marines in Norway with the white Digital Uniforms. Had some CMK figures that fit the bill.

John, your build looks great. The resin wheels definitely bring it up a notch or two. Crew figures look good in the hatches. I like the idea of a digital snow camouflage.....cool. Happy modeling.

Wow, this campaign has been pretty busy lately! I finished building my T-64BV tonight, pictures in a sec, but first:

Kalin, your Sd.Kfz. 8 is excellent - nice detailing and contrasts between the gray finish and your dust application, which really looks the part.

Ernest, that's an awesome-looking motor for your Wildcat, not to mention all the cockpit details - looking forward to your progress.

Nigel, cool AS-90 under its basecoat, your battle with the mesh on top of the turret (I hate that stuff, too) doesn't show up - good work.

David, same with the THAAD, getting everything lined up on a truck chassis is hard enough without axles not fitting but it looks great!

Bill, the Marder is really shaping up nicely, can't wait to see the exterior painted and the figures in place.

The turret of my T-64 was pretty busy with all the reactive armor, snorkels, stowage boxes, etc. but it went together well. Now I need to paint the running gear, fit the side skirts, then mask off the tracks and wheels and proceed with painting the rest.

THAAD Chassis completed and primed. The lift works perfectly. Metal tubes for the cylinders.

I began work, on the sdkfz 7, yesterday. So far, only the gearbox is complete. I plan on putting in a few more hours, today.

Excellent construction work all around. With all the details, angles and low spots on this one, I'm not sure whether the construction was the most challenging or the painting and weathering yet to come. Great work!

Thanks Angel. I have attempted this kit, twice during my younger years. Both were disastrous. I figure that I am competent enough to give it one last go. There are a ton of errors, which I will attempt to correct. The only snag is the fenders being the wrong angle. This is beyond my skill to correct.

Yes, the fenders...
When I start building this kit, I'll try to correct them with Milliput epoxy putty.

Matthew, yes, good work so far on the Sd.Kfz.7 - after I read your and Angel's comments, I looked up Terry Ashley's review of this kit on PMMS and he called it a Jekyll and Hyde kit with lots of accuracy issues - looking forward to your improvements.

Nigel, initial paint coat on your self propelled howitzer looks good. I like the shade of green.
Kalin, love the weathering on your halftrack. Road dirt looks realistic.
Jbranca, the T-64 build turned out wonderfully. Wow, that tank has all kinds of surface detailing. Good luck with the painting phase.
David, the THAAD chassis has an incredible amount of detail. Well done.

Update on my Marder I.

Before I start the camouflage paint scheme, I added foliage attachment screens to the gun shields. Photo references show these vehicles having these items. I made them out of styrene sheet and plastic wedding veil.

Painting on the crew figures is complete.
