Panzer IV Bergepanzer is coming along. A few pieces have been primed including the wheels/tracks. I’m thinking about building some kind of brackets to put a 120L drum on. It’s a maintenance/mechanics vehicle I figure they might have carried some fuel around too. The unditching beam in the pics is not the one I am using on the final. Does anyone know what the “rods” sticking out of the back are for? I’m talking about the rods that I have the bucket hanging off of. The only thing I can think of is that they are there to wrap cable/chain around? I’m really not sure. Anyway, great builds! Some fantastic trucks coming out of this campaign. Cheers.

Looking great Bryan. Pics of the IV Berge are rare and none I know of show the rear clearly. The standard hooks for the tow cable are there, but these others sit quite high and likely you would have to stand on the engine deck to wrap something around them - that means hauling chain up onto the deck first. The length of chain that these would hold would be quite heavy, given that a few loops would be needed to stop the chain falling down the middle, unless a chain loop was slid down the stem, which would be a lot of work really, and the chain would have to be quite thick for the loop hole to be the right size.

Then they are angled up and outward. Anything wrapped around them would slide down to the bottom of the stem, so why have the outward bend? A mystery... but I think your idea of rope has a lot of merit.

Just one thing, the standard bucket had two tabs on the side that protruded above the lip. The handle was fitted through these and was curved the same arc as the bucket rim so the handle rested around the 1/2 circumference. Like this:

Good call on the bucket. The one in the pic is from an old Tamiya set. Maby I will borrow a bucket from my Border Model kit if they are more accurate.

Just add a thin strip of styrene (or maybe some old etch with a hole in it) over the hole you have made and fill the inside with putty. Use the wire you have , or a bit thinner if you have some, and the Tamiya bucket is good to go.

The Border Model bucket has the handle magically, magnetically attached to the side!!!

I still haven't dug out a truck from the stash, but I was struck by a curious thought for our Leader - what about the humble Jeep? I know they served a wide range of roles including Combat, but do they also qualify as Logistic if suitably unarmed and in a Transport/Supply unit?

Disaster struck! I apply the salt for the chipping but as the weather became too humid, the salt began to liquify and then -in a spark of gennius- I put it in the microwave, as I figure the plastic is impervious to the waves, but the water in the damp cloth isn't, take a good guess of what happen!!

OK, build a standard cargo version CCKW - add the wrecker frame to the load box and pose the water tanker as a wrecked vehicle in tow!

This could turn into a win-win!

Or as an excuse to build the Diamond T/Holmes wrecker from Mirror Models.

And would this count as a logistic vehicle??
