Hiya Mike , no problem man , you saw something that didn't look right and you questioned it , as you should have .

Phil , take two on the jeep hood . Well my neighbor and I were screwing around with my 2001 jeep [ sold him it in 2005 ] and we forgot [ beers ] that the jeep had a straight hinge across the top , not the arced windshield arms of a mb , gpw jeep of the 40's .
That being said I went back to scouring forums.g503.com , which I've spent more time on than building the model lol . I already knew jeeps from that period had no hood arm prop . The hood was either open or closed . As far as opening the hood with the windshield dogged down , it was possible but not practical.
Phil , you're right , wouldn't wanna work under the hood with it propped open changing a head gasket or plugs .
The scenario I've got is a propped open hood for a hot radiator [ modeled the cap off ] , let cool , add water , nothing mechanical being done . Can't really change it anyway , I've checked and I'll do more harm than good , so I gotta leave it as is .

That hood hinge usually broke soon, too. I’ve not seen many flat fender hoods that weren’t broken. Also know of a guy who was so p*ssed at his Jeep that he flung his hood up so hard he shattered the panes of the windshield. Glad I wasn’t on that ride. Makes sense to get the hood up quickly with a hot radiator. There will be steam coming from the lower passenger side corner of the radiator where the vent outlet is. (I know this to be true). But could you scape up a nice stick to prop the hood? Carbines, jeeps and models; what more could I want from life? Oh yeah...
I sometimes think of that German beer cellar from a couple years back just before I go to sleep at night...
Love your work.

Thanks Phil , ok I promise I'll use something other than a weapon to prop the hood open .
Broken Jeep windshield , yep seen stuff like that happen before out of anger . Friend of mine once got peed over something working on his Jeep and launched a full beer bottle right into the passenger side windshield , wasn't aiming at it but his anger caused his release to fail .
Another time I was building cable tv systems out in Colorado back in the mid 70's . Snowed overnight , temps went below zero . Yahoo no work today . Friend went to clean off his Jeep to go into town to get butts , beer and food . I told him to go easy on the plastic panels but he banged on them anyway with an ice scraper and shattered his rear plastic window , a million pieces .

Hi Cheyenne,

Just dropped in for the first time in a while and I'm loving how that jungle is spreading (a little like today's Amazon - but in reverse...)

Lovely Jeep too.

We got back from our first trip to Japan a couple of weeks ago and after visiting a couple of model shops in Tokyo and Kyoto I have suddenly developed an interest in the Pacific theatre. I'm thinking of something set in the Malayan Campaign.

So I will watching your jungle with even more interest!

Keep it coming, Tim

Sorry for my tardiness Bro, been building cabinets, so bunker time is out of the question till Moma get's her kitchen, lol.

And I thought I was a gluten for punishment when it comes to large base dios. This thing is huge, Cheyenne! It's all starting to gel from here, lookin really good. Where the heck ya gonna put this when it's done, or did you already mention that?

Cheers, Ski.

Wow Cheyenne this has really become a stunner, and even more so with your comments 'bout adding Artillery as well as another Jeep or three!
Enjoyed reading about the technical aspects of the jeep's hood, hinges, and wartime mounted .50's Thanks Phil!
Keep on keepin' on!

Your steady flow of images revealed a nice contrast: a tracked vehicle untracked, abandoned, derelict and forgotten forever backdropped to the all-time original rough terrain vehicle (not counting the packmule of course!) just pluggin' along:
The Willy's Jeep. Intended or not great result!
Kinda sorta like the Captain America HD (Peter Fonda R.I.P.) long chrome chopper getting its flat fixed as a farmer's horse gets re-shod.

BTW It's nice to see a set of chained wheels on stock steel rims in a jungle scene as opposed to some of the rim/tire combos some Jeeps are currently running around on in the streets and parking lots. Never to see anything more than a dirt lot or the shoulder of the roadway!

Look frwd to more jungley progress, and when it all gets pulled together Dude

Cheers
Regards Dave

Just started reading (and moreover: Watching) your thread and HOLY MACARONI!!! This is an awesome dio!!!! The amount of planning and the execution is fantastic!!!
I was not aware that the Jeeps in jungles used snow chains. Another lesson learned
My only thought is that the reindeer moss does look out of place, as it is not very tropical. But then again, this could be because I recognise it for what it is.. :

Thanks guys , sorry for the belated bounce but September is a bad bench month for me .
After Labor Day the tourists are gone , the kids are back to school and the beaches belong to the locals , ...... and me .
College and NFL football watching on Saturday and Sunday accompanied by horse shoes and BBQ and some beers . Last Sunday was spent watching football and holding a small horse shoe tournament with awesome bbq from 10am till 2am in my yard , 3 to 4 cords of firewood needs to be split , I hit the beach around 4am and plug for stripers then bait fish and sleep in my beach chair .
Tim , thanks man , Japan must have been a very cool trip !!
Steve Broski , thanks man , yeah it's growing I've started my second medic jeep though slow progress for reasons afore mentioned .
Dave , thanks man appreciate the drop in , go to forums.g503.com for everything WW2 jeep .
Erwin , thanks man I'm glad you like it . As far as the moss goes it's not my fave either but used sparingly and adorned with grasses , small trees and ferns it does make a good space and ground foliage cover .

Sounds like you have had a good weekend (Y)

You might want to check out plastic aquarium plants. Specially after painting them, they look mightily realistic. Better than the moss...

Nice brass work Glenn, I share your sentiments about p/e so you should be rightly proud when something you hate doing looks this good. But this wouldn’t be Armorama if someone didn’t point out that the glove-box door is fine, the rest of the jeep’s the wrong way round

Mike , Tim , Dave , Erwin , thanks guys . I've been working at the bench , not much . Surf fishing , clubbing at night watching cover bands and weekend college and Sunday NFL with bar-b q's has been the norm lately , this retirement thing is great !!!
Pics suck but I'll wait till my son gets home from work to take better ones and to annoy Tim's computer download time .
Gotta run , surf and Stripers are calling .....

Loosely based on an Australian field mod from interaction in New Briton . The only factory mod was done for the U.S. Marines late in the war by an Australian company , the Holden field ambulance I believe . The British had standard field mods in Europe yet a lot of Allied jeep ambulances were unofficial mods .
The 82 Airborne had a standardized field mod [ similar to the Italeri jeep ambulance ] because the wounded could be left on the stretchers on the jeep and driven right on to evac planes .
More to come ...

Ah, picking the fruits of life! Enjoy, old man, but don't forget you have to entertain us also, from time to time The people demand updates to satisfy their needs. Having said this, the Jeep looks great. The mods look like just that due to the way you painted it...
Thanks for the pics...

Thanks Erwin , it's about 5am here , bait shop , beach , surf in 20 min.
Once it starts getting colder , that's when it becomes uncomfortable to surf fish for me and that's when I'll be clocking more build time .

5am? Damn, I still stand on 1 ear at that time! Even when I have to work (rise at 06:30). If I am off, it is usually 09:00.

That medic jeep looks great so far buddy.
I share your view about PE. I take the view that most frets of PE have about 50% of the thing being useful as far as scale accuracy goes. The rest of the fret is usually just "filler" to make it look like you are getting a bang for your buck. But most of those parts are not an improvement to the kit IMHO.
Just generalizing the issue of course, because there are fret sold that are very useful.

Well Glenn actually your pix loaded so fast I didn’t even have time for my customary late-night death-roll with a Great White down at Bondi…I don’t know where you find the time for strippers too. Holden’s correct, GM’s local badge in Oz from 1931 until finally closing down all local manufacture in 2017. Beautiful ambu-jeep anyhow & perfect rust, you better pray those AFV forum guys don’t stop by or you’ll never hear the end of it being the wrong shade of OD

Erwin I usually go fishin at 5am , get up around 4am . I can walk to Barnegat bay in a minute or two or drive over to Long Beach Island in 15 or twenty . Nailed a couple of short throw backs yesterday on plugs . Hopefully today I'll snag a tide runner on a chunk of clam or bunker .
Thanks Jerry , yeah pe is hit or miss on some parts but some molded on blobs are best replaced .
Tim , that's because I haven't yet got around to stealing my sons phone . I've got plenty of time for Stripers but no time for strippers , haven't been in one of those clubs in ages , lol . As far as the color , hey man the jar said olive drab , as long as it's not Mopar lime green I'm happy .
