Hi Ko. I grew up building the old Monogram kits and they have always held a soft spot in my heart. I collected and have all of the original "white box" 1/35 and 1/32 armor kits and have a bunch of the "blue box" reissues from the 1980s as well. So instead of building one from my collection I decided to order one of the re-reissues.
I also collect the diorama tip sheets that came with the old kits, armor and aircraft. So....if anyone out there has any of these they don't want...hint hint....

Harv-I had that kit in my stash, picked it up at HobbyLobby for $7.50 and did not build it. I gave it to my kids for the 4-H Christmas gift exchange. They told me it was the most popular gift, getting exchanged several times. I didn't even know kids still built models or I would've thrown in a tube of glue.
Looking forward to your build. Maybe I'll build my Sherman for this campaign.
I hope that you do build the Sherman kit Don. When the campaign was proposed I automatically wanted to build one of the old Monogram armor kits. That was nice of you to donate that kit. It's cool that there are youth interested in the hobby. I was happy to see my son get "styrene fever"
Those old Monogram kits are definitely not up to todays standards but still.....how many of us cut our teeth on them when we got started in this hobby. They will always have a special place in my modeling memories. Thanks guys,

I never had those Monogram.kits. I started out with Italeri and Tamiya, so I am thinking of using one of those.
I am leaning towards Italeri's ambulance jeep or a M151-version by Tamiya. Or maybe go for the LRDG Chevrolet?

Yes, indeed. Francis S. "Frank" Gabreski was a very versatile personality. He flew Spitfires in combat before joining up with the 56th Fighter Group, THE most successful Fighter Group in the then USAAF (United States Army Air Force). He also flew combat missions in F-86 Sabrejets in Korea.
I'm primarily an Aircraft modeler, as you can see from my list of "oldies", but I have wide-ranging interests...

The TAMIYA LRDG Chevrolet is a GREAT KIT! A real winner, for a 1970s-vintage kit. So is ITALERI's Crusader Mk.I... My advice regarding the LRDG Chevy, and this would probably break your R.O.E.s, but those kit-supplied vinyl Tires have a tendency to break up, just like the widely-detested DRAGON "DS" Tracks. I don't know what you would want to do in this case, but just in case you decide to build that LRDG Chevy OUTSIDE of this campaign, I would suggest getting either the after-market RESICAST LRDG Tyres/Wheels Replacement set, or the resin DEF "Sagged/Bulged" set of same... These sets also feature MUCH BETTER detail and have the extra benefit od not disintegrating right in front of your eyes!
I should also add that the LRDG Chevy lends itself to at least a half-dozen different camouflage/color schemes... If you like the older TAMIYA kits, I might also suggest their OLD T-34/76 1942 kit. For a 1970s kit, THIS ONE is a "winner", too!

This is a great idea and I would like to join in possibly. I gotz a Tamiya Type-74 but the thing is I started it sometime ago and would like to finisher up. The road wheels and track are assembled, the upper and lower hull are dry fitted together with the turret dry fitted as well and the barrel glued together. I know that sounds like a lot but its only about 10% of work that I'm intending to do. So the question would be if I can use this kit for this Campaign?

Would’ve loved to have participated in this. Shep Paine is the reason I got into the hobby some 39 years ago. A few years ago I bought the rereleased hedgehog and the screamin mimi so I could build an early M4A1 using the turret parts from the hedgehog.
It was a 100% awesome nostalgia build but I didn’t get around to it until early this year and I wrapped it up about 6 weeks ago. It’s almost OOTB but it has the early gun mantlet from the hedgehog, it has a plastic DML slide molded gun barrel from the the spares box. Some DML kits used to come with extra barrels (early and late types).
It also has DML DS tracks off of the orangebox M4A4 kit and if this isn’t proof positive of how oversized the T48 DML DS tracks are then I don’t know what is. The tracks fit perfectly with zero modifications. I nabbed a couple stowage items from spares and those look like Tamiya parts. The decals came with the kit except for the Al Capone decal which is from the italeri M4A1.
As much as I enjoyed my walk down memory lane. I won’t be going near another monogram sherman again. I gave my son the hedgehog kit (i’m a bad dad) with the screamin mimi parts so he’s slowly working on it (builds character?)

I just got an original Monogram Ostwind circa 1974 complete with diorama tip sheet and everything. I have never done a campaign but I'm up for this one. If it starts in December count me in.

I'd like to join up! I have a choice of two different Italeri kits: Either the Panther A or the Panzerwerfer Maultier. I believe they would qualify. Heaven knows they have been sitting in my stash long enough!!

I'am also one who grew up in admiration of the man's work in the late 60's and thru the 70's, before moving away from the hobby.
Reading thru the pgs of this clearly reminds me of riding the ol' Schwinn bicycle to various LHS's and spending hours (so it seemed) in the aisles and just staring at all the kit's cover art and dreaming of one day buying them and adding them to my budding collection: Nasa Spacecraft, Aurora's Universal Monsters, 1/12 Niki Lauda Ferrari 312T (this kit I actually did buy and carry under my arm riding home) just to name a few, and of course the seemingly 1,000's of armor, cars and aircraft, by Monogram Revell Tamiya etc etc. Thinking "I can do this!" That kit cover art got you every time.
And then one fine day discovering those kit's which had pictures displayed of actually built depictions of dioramas.
(my personal All-Time Favorite) woo-hoo!!!
And then finding out who had built them: Shep Paine.
I eventually bought his "How to Build Dioramas", and was completely blown away by his box-dioramas complete with historical subject matter! (my All-Time Favorite interest).
After too many delays, false starts and the usual interruptions, this will be a perfect opportunity to enjoy a casual walk down memory lane. And I'll be chipping away at the stash as well!
Many possibilities in the stash, so thanks for this idea Ron

I'm in, I think. I'm not sure about the start and end dates, but if I can manage to start and finish something during the time frame, I'd like to participate.

But this seems like a good second chance. I'm on the lookout for a Panzerpahwagen, and I promise I won't start it early.

You're very welcome Mark and no worries. Like you I am excited about this campaign and just wanted to let you know I had seen a few of those panzerspahwagen kits when I was searching for a Screamin' Mimi kit for myself.

@Pedro: Thank you! That Sherman looks great, you even used those monogram tarps.
I have that Orangebox Dragon M4A4 and now that I know the T48 tracks fit the Monogram -- I can build my fourth Monogram 1/32 Sherman as a M4A1 75mm in France 1944 with applique but retaining the original suspension.
I've been building all the reissues right along and still have the M34 Eager Beaver and M3A1(M5A1) halftrack unbuilt. I skipped the Pzkpfw IV H for the Dragon kit of the variant Monogram based their kit on.
I generally can't do campaigns as my schedule is way too erratic.
A lot of the Italeri and Tamiya 1/35 catalog predate 1994 so look over at scalemates and be surprised. You can also find a bunch of the older Dragon imperial series kits.

I searched for my 1/32 Sherman this weekend but couldn't find it. Still not discouraged as I needed to go thru the stash and thin it out a little. I found an Italeri Marder III Ausf H but I've put on eBay along with a Royal Model update set for it-a builder's lot.
Has the campaign proposal been submitted yet? I think we've hit 10 interested modelers a while back but haven't seen the official campaign yet.

Tip first: Hobby Lobby carries a few of the Monagram re-releases coupled with their 40% off coupon it should bring you under $20 for a kit.
Question??? Would one of the old Renwal re-releases count ? Their ONTOS defeated me as a young modeler, my first binned kit, and I'd like to get revenge !
There are old Tamiya & Italeri kits that would work too that would be easy to find.

The Tamiya M4, M4A3, Jumbo all predate 1994. Tamiya Tiger I late is from 1988 and the "new" Panther G series is from 1994.
All the classic Italeri kits: Pzkfw IV, Pzkfw 38(t), M13/40, Hetzer, M47, Leopard 1A4 all come from before 1994.
Nearly every ship and aircraft kit in my stash is from before 1994.
The Renwal kits are from the 1950s!
