Okay, went over to the Mother in Law's last weekend and took a kit to work on. She did her craftwork while I built and my wife talked (and talked, and..)!
Anyway, settled on the Bronco A9 as the kit to take. Start up pic:
Where I am at:
Mostly went together like a dream so far. Only issue is the 3 hatch covers on the round "Tommy Cooker" are not wide enough and there is a gap that needed to be filled.
I left the suspension movable at this stage, just to make sure every thing is flat later. It is not Bronco's intent that it articulate, it should be glued. The part where the 2 smaller road wheels will be fitted is not moveable, although it could be made to be posable if the modeller wanted to show the vehicle on uneven ground - just cut off the square locating pin and replace it with a suitable size length of brass rod.
I forgot to take some styrene card stock with me to replace the short etch pieces with holes Bronco gives you for the suspension components, as the short ones should not have holes. Bit the bullet and went with the kit ones anyway. My OCD tendencies are begging me to replace them....
and the other cleaned up bibs and bobs
By the way, if you have the kit, don't be tempted to replace the springs on the suspension with real springs or using wire. The A9 had square profile springs, not the usual round profile.
