No,actually the wonderful large format soft cover( and inexpensive ) one named "The WWII Tommy" by Martin Grayley. If you only want to buy one book and it has to cover the most important things concerning this topic, then this is the one IMHO.
Very satisfied customer.

Thanks Tim!
yes,I am actually more pleased with the background guy as well. The smiley guy was right out of the Tamiya Carrier box and I only changed his arm positions. The guy behind was also from the same box but heavily modified in position with a Hornet head,Dragon Helmet and Hornet hands as well.Plus I think he ended up with a very natural pose. Anyway...I hope so.

For you...the war is over !

Working on some more figs for the upcoming episode. From Miniart but I did a lot of carving and adding of putty to get them to look more relaxed and believable.

Hi Jerry,

Your build is looking excellent, I'm really envious of your figure building and painting skills. You seem to have an innate ability to animate your figures and bring a sense of life to the story you're telling...truly brilliant, .

Cheers, ,

Jerry,

Thanks, I might just get a copy to augment the fairly comprehensible Histoire & Collections volumes, which are of course, very good.

I was musing about uniforms and equipment just the other day with another retired soldier: not that I'm trying to score any points whatsoever, but I'm probably fairly unique in that I've worn Battledress (albeit the 1949 pattern), Green Combat Dress, DPM Combat Dress, and MTP. And the respective webbing personal equipment: '37 pattern, '44 pattern, '58 pattern and the PCLE '90 pattern - in both green and DPM.

I hasten to add I am NOT around a hundred years old - it just feels like it some days.

I find things like that depend on the time period served. Some guys hit the years just right and serve through all kinds of changes. Others go through the whole career with very little change.
Since the bulk of my early service was in a prolonged era of peace,I only went through one major change. The old Green fatigues changed to the BDU and the early days saw the canvas ammo pouches, canteen cover, etc go to the nylon alice system.
Other than that, pretty minor stuff changed.

Jerry,

You continue to stun me with your magical figure builds. As wonderful as always. You just aren't afraid to get stuck in when it comes to changing figures in a dramatic way.

I feel your pain with the super glue. It looks fine as long as you don't paint it because it's transparent - then the paint goes on and the full horror becomes apparent!

I don't know which brand you have been using, but the first super glue that I have found which does not block the nozzle and which retains the same fluidity almost to the end is Gorilla Super Glue Gel. You need to 'decant' it and then apply with a pin or tooth pick, but it works the best for me.

And I can also recommend the WWII Tommy book very highly indeed. It really helped me to understand the many shades of uniform and webbing when I was painting the figures for my Italian diorama.

Keep it coming!

Dave and Tim,
Thanks for trying in such nice stuff guys. Very nice way to start my day,I must tell you !
Ahhh yes, good ol' super glue. The savior ( and bane ) of my existence. Always bonds INSTANTLY when I don't want it to but when I am holding that tiny part in just the right position and waiting for it to set welll....hours pass it seems.

Here is a small teaser pic of another up-coming side story in the Manvieu theme.

"Saving the mortar"

This is a Rado figure, modified to carry the base plate from a Dragon kit. I also did some work on the gear.

And yes,I see the freekin seam on his helmet. Grrrrr

Hi Jerry, after looking back to the start of this post, I will add my 2 cents on super glue. For years I have used Bob Smith Industries gel glue. I use toothpicks and cocktail sticks to get out the glue after opening the top and put some glue on a used but clean tin can top. The glue remains workable for a longer period. It is much easier to apply with toothpicks to the parts being worked on. Just make sure to use a new toothpick each time you take it out of the bottle. If you use a used toothpick to remove it can react with the unused glue in the bottle. Best regards.....Dale

Thanks for the tip man. I do decant the glue and use the tip of a number 11 to apply it but it's so hard to tell if there is a blob or whatever until of course, you paint the hideous thing.
