Any guesses as to what's next from Tamiya?

We probably all know about the upcoming M10 and M36, and the T-34 is already out. So, what's next?

My dearest hope is for an IS-2. In fact, I even lobbied Brian ("J-Hulk" over on the FSM board) to express this to Mr. Tamiya, and he did so when he went to the big show in Japan recently. Since Brian is 6'4" tall, I hope this had an impression on Mr. Tamiya. "Do an IS-2 ... or else." :-)

Seriously, though, is there any scuttlebutt floating around on what the mighty T will release after the two US tank destroyers?

Wasn't there talk about a 1/48 Universal Carrier?

I'd like to see their latest Jeep and 2½ ton truck kit shrunk down to 1/48 scale. This is another pair of vehicles that could also be marketed to the 1/48 scale aircraft builders for airfield dioramas.

I have noticed a trend towards what i would call "wargaming" vehicles. If someone was wanting 1/48th scale armor to wargame with, it appears vehicles that would be popular force-on-force weapons are being produced. The diecast hulls also lead me to think this way. It makes the kits a little more hefty and durable under frequent handling.

Oh shoot, I forgot about that one! Yeah, after that too, and let's throw in the Citroen as well.

Hovercrafts? No, I think Fine Molds is doing those. :-)

I'd like to see a truck as well, and who knows, it might happen. You'd think that they would focus on the sure-fire sellers when the line was new, but they turn around and give us a German staff car! So I guess the sky is the limit. I'm still impressed that they didn't come out with the obligatory King Tiger right out of the gate.

6' 4"?!? Why, I'm 6' 5"!! That inch makes a BIG difference!

Yup, I actually did "lobby" for a 1/48 JS-2 (JS, IS, whatever!), when asked what I'd like to see and what I thought the modelling community would like to see in 1/48, the first words out of my mouth were "JS-2." Followed by "anything modern." Then I mentioned "B-17G."
Hopefully an impression was made!

As for the upcoming Universal Carrier, a Bren Gun Carrier is indeed coming soon.

Your modelling muscle in Japan, Brian (real life), aka J-Hulk (FSM), aka Shado 1 (here).

Although there have been a huge wave of 1/48 vehicles has there been a wave of 1/48 figures to match?

That is just their 1/35 kit, updated with their Allied accessories and new figures.

What will Tamiya release next (excluding the announced 6/25 Citroen release, the US infantry, and the Universal carrier) ?? They had forcasted 20 kits for 2005; 14 have been released, the M4A1 is out there, and the M10. That would leave only two kits unidentified for release in 2005. The Panther and PzKpfw IV have been mentioned as definents by Mr. Tamiya himself... , but not necessarily in 2005. Likely we'll see a fuel truck or lorry of some sort before the year's end. I too would like to see an IS2, though I think it is more likely from SkyBow than Tamiya.
Where did the M36 rumor come from? I heard the same think about the Hellcat; which proved to be false.

Maybe I'm remembering this incorrectly, but I thought Brian had mentioned it on FSM.

No, I don't believe I ever mentioned an M36. Did I?
Hmmm...nope, don't think I did! Or did I...

Maybe it was someone else in Japan, then. Maybe one of the e-mails from HLJ? Hmmm ....

Anyway, if it's not coming, it's not coming.

Unfortunately, the Red Ball Express GMC truck is 1/35 - check the kit number - but it sure would be great to see it available in 1/48!

I'll go out on a limb and predict the next release (other than the two unreleased known items) will be a non-tank; possibly an APC, but more likely a softskin. I'm expecting a fuel truck actually. Hope I'm wrong .....

I would like a short wheel base GMC kit and a NO Mack prime mover in plastic in 1/35 scale of course. And while we are at it how about an Opel Blitz and/or a Mercedes L3000 done to current standards in plastic as well plus possibly a 6 wheeled german Hensel truck for a bit of spice.

Pigs fly as well didn't you know :-)

You'll likely get a Tamiya 1/35 SWB GMC immediately after they release the 1/35 Sentinal with PE parts. I'm sure it won't be too long to wait... it's rumored Tamiya plans to release a flood of 1/35 kits within a short period of time to medicate the wimpers so many builders in that scale are suffering.
