Need some advice guys

I know this question was asked a long time ago but unfortunately i cant find the original thread.
So here is my query....
Im working on Tamiya's Matilda and I am at the weathering stage, I know that vehicles in desert conditions do get a fair old beating from wind and sand plus the extreme temperature conditions so therefore the paint does get chipped and weathered, however one thing thats got me a little troubled and that is do vehicles in desert conditions rust ?
Thanks in advance

Dry desert conditions slow rust and corrosion, but do not stop it compteley. The worst environment is a humd, windy seacoat with salt spray, but I have seen rust in desert environments also.

Besides what Alan said, be aware that no rust would accumulate on the tracks due to the constant scrubbing by the abrasive sand...

Thanks for the swift repsonses
It was more or less what i was thinking too but just wanted to check.
I dont intend going overboard with the rust , nada on the tracks ( as you mentioned sand makes a great grinding paste :-) ) , I just wanted to show a little on the muffler/exhaust system just to add a little variation to a pretty drab sand coloured scheme.

If you're ever near the IWM in Lambeth, check out the LRDG truck in there. It was retrieved from the desert after 50+ years in the open. The paint has virtually all gone, but there is no loose rust on it, it's just like the metal has gone a dark brown colour. Even the tyres, while flat obviously, still look almost black! Hard to describe, & I don't have a photo. Maybe someone else does!

It's still covered with rust (not the "loose type", that's true.)
It must be like the mumification process: you get different rust different in different environment...

Thanks everyone , much appreciated
I think I will go with more worn and chipped paint than actual rust

, maybe a little on the exhausts but more heat discolouration than rust
