I'm half way thru a dio and need some barbed wire or razor wire in 1/35 scale. I've seen the old Tamiya barracade kits here and there but they say they don't come with the wire. I only need about 10"{coiled} of either but would find a use for any left over I'm sure in the future. Thanks-

In the Features section right here on Armorama is a 'how to' article on how to make your own barbed wire...

Hot Link: make your own barbed wire

I've used this technique and it isn't especially fast, but the effect is very realistic.

Hi Bob,

Verlinden does a set of barbed wire as I have used it before and it is really sharp stuff. I dont know about Razor wire though, it may well be worth searching their catalogue.

Barbed wire?
Definitely try the method mentioned above, mate, it does look great and is remarkably easy to churn out a good bit in a short while.

Razor wire, well take a look at Jim Rae's latest announcement from Accurate Armor, right HERE! . . .read down through the News story, mate, about midway, whoa! Razor wire! (and some other really cool looking new releases!)

Cheers!

I am currently experimenting with scratch built razor wire. A month or so ago, someone on here posted a technique of how to make razor wire out of screen. You simply cut out one wire "row" of screen, leaving the little cross "tabs" attached, and paint it. So far it looks very believable. I would say the accurate armor looks better, but this way is free LOL if you like, give it a try and see how you like it.

I checked the razor wire from Accurate Armour out on their stand at Telford, and it's very realistic. If I did Modern subjects I would have bought at least one, probably more 'rolls' of the stuff.

Allas, when you want realistic barbed wire, its back to the 'DIY' method... :-)

Cheers

IMHO; Gary has a good idea. That is the technique that I use and it is very realistic. I'll admit not as realistic as the accurite stuff but damn good for free! The only way anyone would really pay attention to it is if they were a rivet counter. Just my .02$

Wow, thanks guys! I love the article on how to make the barbed wire, I'll definately have to try that, but that razor wire from AA looks really nice too.
And as for being a "rivet counter"...nah, I do that all day at work..well...I make the rivets and the machines count them...I try not to take my work home with me. :-)

Wow that looks pretty good considering how easy it sounds!
Ive just spent ages winding barbs around wire to make mine, It looks pretty good but takes some patience! I like the method shown here for the simplicity, only question is, what exactly do you mean by 'screen' and where do I find it the correct size?

Cheers,

James

The screen we're talking about is the same screen that goes in windows. Go find yourself some place where they're demolishing an old house, and you can probably come up with some for free Thats how I got mine. If youre going to buy it, try your local hardware store. You really dont need much of it at all, so buy the smalles size you can. One 2 x 3 sheet should last you for years.

Bobs right, this is a really great way to make barbed wire! I've made it myself, and it's actually really easy to do. I actually make stock piles of it at work when theres nothing to do (which isnt often). You can save yourself some money this way. For the paltry price of some picture frame wire anyway,
