...in a good way! These new washes from Vallejo Acrylics are designed to behave like solvent based washes...using a water based formula. A Chipping Medium and German ISAF color set are also hitting the shelves.
For armor, vehicles, planes, ship, figures and war game figures. All surfaces exposed to sun, wind and dust, rain and snow, experience a change in color, a loss of intensity, a dulling and general fading which however is not even or overall. For the model painter, these changes in color are very difficult to reproduce, and to achieve these effects on a model, washes are the perfect solution.

The washes are always needed to blend the edges of the colors on a model painted in various camouflage shades. The colors can also be mixed together to achieve further variations of shade and can be used with airbrush or brush, according to the model and the effect desired.

Model Wash can be mixed with pigments to achieve a wide range of effects such as oil and flaked rust, mud, earth, dust, moss, etc. and when mixed with acrylic colors, they further help achieve the impact of heavy wear and weathering.

The washes have been formulated with a modified acrylic resin so that the superficial tension is similar to that of the traditional solvent-based washes, but with the advantage of working with a water-based medium. Average drying time is around 20 minutes. If several layers of wash are to be applied, it is best to wait around 40 minutes between applications.
Painting tools are cleaned with water.

Packaging:
Bottles of 35 ml. with flip top.

German ISAF color set:
8 acrylic Model Air colors for Airbrush. In the years 1980 the standard camouflage pattern in the German and EU armies was the Flecktarnanstrich (FTA) with the colors RAL 6031-F9 Bronze-green, RAL 8027-F9 Leather-brown, and RAL 9021-F9 Tar-black. This pattern was designed primarily for Central Europe, where landscapes consist largely of farmland, urban terrain and tall forests; vegetation with a dark green background.

My thanks to Alex Vallejo for the update!

I am trying to figure if there is a difference from their exiting washes, which I use and like. I did notice there are more colors, and the bottles are different.

The new line of washes are a different formulation that their washes that are currently on the market. While the new ones are an acrylic, they behave more like an enamel wash. Not sure how they did that, but apparently it works. They aren't out in North America yet (at least none of my suppliers carry it yet) but they are supposed to be coming soon.
