Released last month, Trumpeter shares further details and photos of its kit contents.
Developed by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a mobile artillery rocket system that offers the firepower of the Multiple-Launch Rocket System (MLRS) on a wheeled chassis. Its purpose is to engage and defeat artillery, air defense concentrations, trucks, light armor and personnel carriers, as well as support troop and supply areas, with the capability to quickly move away from its launch area to avoid potential enemy retaliation.

Trumpeter’s M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) (01041) builds a model with full drive train assembly, complete with engine transmission, differential housing and suspension units. The kit has more than 500 parts in plastic and photo-etched details, a decal sheet, as well as rubber tires. The completed model stands at 225mm in length and 84.4mm in width.

Background information on the vehicle sourced from Army-Technology.com.

when is it due out? [/quote] No clue. It says above that it was released last month, but I can't find it anywhere yet. Since the chassis is a Stewart and Stevenson FMTV, that would make sense. The cab is probably also built by S&S and is a modified LSAC.

Yes probably. Good thinking Gino.

The cab in this kit is an early version of HIMARS, as used by USMC in Afghanistan around 2007-2009. Currently used version is different, so the kit cannot be build as current standard Army vehicle without significant changes (although the original early vehicles might still be in service as well, I don't know).

OK.

I've seen it on pre-order from some Japanese retailers. It is running ~$100. I may have enough pennies saved up to buy this, by Christmas.

The kit is now hitting eBay.

I wonder how close to the m-1090/ 1157 Dump truck the chassis is. The armor on the cab looks spot on.... wheelbase would probably be longer than the dump though....have to see, I got history to build LOL
