Derek Hanson, of Accurate Armour, has been good enough to send us details and images of the company's latest release in 1/35th scale.
LR011 - HOTSPUR Armoured Land Rover (Ģ51.05 Export/ Ģ58.71 U.K. & E.C.)

The HOTSPUR Armoured Land Rover was developed and used by the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) in Northern Ireland and is based on the 109" chassis Land Rover.

The first examples were in service in 1976 and the name HOTSPUR comes from the brand of armour plate used and concealed within the design. HOTSPUR was withdrawn from RUC service in 1991, however a pair were used by ITN news to cover the Yugoslavian civil war.

This 1:35th scale resin kit by Rob Tearle, features full chassis, internal detail, comprehensive etched brass set, coloured clear castings and tinted 'armoured glass' windows and full colour decals for RUC vehicles and ITN News. Optional parts for early/late versions are included.

This looks like a great kit and an interesting subject too... I hear great things about AA kits but unfortunately they are outside of my budget at the moment Cheers, Ian

At last... A very welcome addition to the Land Rover collection, and one which, as the image shows, opens up a whole new world of possibilities to finish it, other than muddy... The AA website indicates that there are parts and decals to make the ITN news car that they used in the old Yugoslavia, now that should make some interesting dioramas.

Wow! I am always interested in any of the vehicles which served in Northern Ireland! Built the AA Humber "Pig" many moons ago and no doubt, this kit is leap years ahead of that one. When I have the money this will be a definite purchase!! And to whoever built and painted the kit --- great job! I love the paint splatters! Really well done! Now we need some appropriate period British soldiers and N.I. civilians (with jean jackets, long hair, mutton chop side burns, mini skirts and other 70s and 80s fashion etc.) to go with the kit. Off-topic but related... Although there are a couple of figures out on the market throwing rocks (Warriors, Firestorm), I have yet to see a truly fantastic one with the rock or bottle thrower being truly hyper -extended as if the projectile just left his hand. Looking forward to the short wheel base Land Rover at some point as well. By the way David Dunne's "Armoured and heavy vehicles of the RUC 1922-2001" is an excellent reference for this and a host of other vehicles operating in Northern Ireland, going back to the RR Armoured car. Many great color photos, which are not always easy to find. Roy, if you would, let us know what you think when you've got the kit in hand! Regards and Aloha, Johnny B.

Its good to see kits from the Northern Ireland era, as these could make some really interesting dio's. having served there, once or twice!!!!!!!! I have some photographs of humber pigs and the kit we wore whilst serving there, so ideas are forming for future dio's, as mentioned previously all we require now is personel, both military and civilian and the dio's are limitless. Time to get those ole photos out.

This looks brilliant, love the way AA have painted it up with the scorch marks and paint blasts! Out of curiosity does anyone have any pics of the ITN version? As Havoc says, all we need now is some figures from the era aswell!! Anyway, as I said this looks like a brilliant release, keep em coming AA!!!

GREAT SUBJECT, HAVING SERVED IN THE RUC/PSNI FOR 24 YRS AND LIVED IN THESE VEHICLES DAY IN AN DAY OUT I CAN HONESTLY SAY IT WAS NO PICNIC.I HAVE BUILT ALL THE VARIOUS TYPES OF RUC LANDROVER IN MODEL FORM OVER THE YEARS NOTEBLY BEING THE SHORLAND/ HOTSPUR /SIMBA /TANGI, THESE VEHICLES IN REAL LIFE WERE BASED ON THE LANDROVER CHASIS. DESIGNED & DEVELOPED OVER THE YEARS BY THE RUC/PSNI ACCORDING TO AN EVER INCREASING TERRORIST WEAPONARY THREAT ,VARIOUS IMPROVEMENTS WERE MADE TO THESE VEHICLES TO INCREASE THERE SAFETY AND CAPABILITY. UNFORTUNATLEY ON MANY OCCAISIONS AS A RESULT OF ATTACKS ON THEIR VEHICLES, BRAVE POLICE OFFICERS LOST THEIR LIVES OR WHERE SERIOUSLY INJUIRED WHILST SERVING THEIR COMMUNITY. I HAVE MANY DETAILED PHOTOS OF THESE LANDROVERS EXTERNAL /I NTERNAL / BEFORE & AFTER ACTIONS, AND I AM HAPPY TO SHARE THESE WITH FELLOW MODELLERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN REPRODUCING THIS SUBJECT.
