Trumpeter have just sent us images of what is likely to be one of 2010's most exciting releases.
Following on from the release of their Soviet 203mm Howitzer, the modeler was in a bit of a quandary. What could you tow it with? Now, help is on the horizon with:
01573: Voroshilovetz Tractor
Release is scheduled for April/May 2010..
In production from 1939-42, the tractor was just one of a line of Soviet prime-movers and the primary design was for a vehicle capable of towing the 152mm Howitzer or the heavier 203mm B1.
However, as they say, the story doesn't end there. Examples were captured by the Wermacht and pressed into service as prime-movers for their larger artillery pieces and in Soviet service was used in whatever role was required depending on the situation - I have an image of a Voroshilovetz recovering a KV-1...
As to variants, Trumpeter's model portrays the 'soft-top' version, but there was also a wooden 'hut-type' structure over the cargo body.
Although production ceased in 1942 the vehicle served on until the end of the War - allowing a LOT of possible settings.
For those who are contemplating this vehicle, I cannot recommend too highly, the superb book from Tankograd Publishing, which covers the Voroshilovetz along with (MANY) others. A Review can be seen: HERE (LINK)
Our thanks to Trumpeter, for providing the images!
