Concord Publications have just announced their latest title - covering the initial stages of WWII.
7064 - Early Panzer Victories
The book is written by Frank V. De Sisto and consists of 72 pages. Within the book are 16 color plates and 167 (B+W)photos.
The book covers the German campaigns waged against Poland (1939), Scandinavia (1940), Western Europe (1940), the Balkans (1941) and Russia (1941).
In the photos, vehicles covered include:
Halftracks (Sd.Kfz.251), armored cars (Sd.Kfz.221/222, Sd.Kfz.231, Sd.Kfz.232, Sd.Kfz.263), assault guns (StuG.III) and tanks (Pz.Kpfw.I, Pz.Kpfw.II, Pz.Kpfw.35(t) and 38(t), Pz.Kpfw.III, Pz.Kpfw.IV).
I'm developing an unfortunate tendency to editorialize with some of the decisions taken by both DML and Concord, this, unfortunately, is no exception. I have a number of Frank's books and consider him a good and knowledgable author. Unfortunately, for those who write for Concord, they seem to be somewhat let-down by the decisions taken at other levels. How on earth, can a book of this type, considering the complexity of the subject, only be done in one volume? Other publishers, seem to take the decision to publish a series of three or four volumes when the subject area is so broad.
Are the commissioning Editors at Concord actually getting the best out of a 'stable' of superb authors? Concord, has in my opinion, published some brilliant books. Unfortunately, they do seem to want to cram too much into single volumes...
The days of the 'one-size-fits-all' seem, going by the lists of OTHER publishers to be over. Time to re-think?
