In the last week there have been a number of news stories covering new and future releases from the Scottish model manufacturer Accurate Armour in a burst of idiocy I completely ignored this new release....
One of the ranges that Accurate Armour are slowly but surely developing and expanding are their range of Land Rover variants. Five models of the more than 50 variants of this worldwide 'workhorse' have already been produced. The sixth has just been released and is available now...
LR006 - Land Rover XD TUM WMIK (Winter/Water) £ 51.05 (Export) £ 59.98 (within the EC)
Based on the Land Rover 'Defender' chassis, the XD 'Wolf' comes in a number of configurations, this model represents the winter/water version. This is notable with the inclusion of 'snorkel-type' extended exhausts for deep fording of rivers. The reallly notable feature on this vehicle is of course the WMIK - the Weapons Mounted Installation Kit. This is typically used for the mounting of two 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Guns on a forward and 360 degree 'turret' mount. An option also exists (in the actual vehicle) to mount a .50 Calibre MG on the vehicle - an option which is fairly unpopular with its crews...
Accurate Armour's kit consists of 150 parts in resin, white metal and etched brass. Parts include crew weapons, stowage and for a vehicle in 'Operation Telic' the correct CIPs (Combat Identification Panels).
The kit was licenced from Land Rover and was produced with the assistance of Ricardo Vehicle Engineering who are, I believe, the producers of the WMIK...

The last two photos are of the 'Summer' version' also used by the Royal Marines...
