All the relases in this Report cover, in 1/35th scale, the DROPS System (Demountable Rack Offload & Pickup System). Also, the vehicle, the FODEN IMMLC (Improved Medium Mobility Load Carrier) 8x6

This impressive and versatile logistic support vehicle was developed for front-line off-road use by the British Army and entered service in 1994. The principle use for the 400+ vehicles in service is 155mm ammunition supply for AS90 batteries, but is also used in a multitude of logistic tasks.

This particular model depicts the standard vehicle with full chassis, suspension and cab internal details. The Multilift system is workable and a complete ISO Flatrack (A138) is supplied with each kit. Transparent cast lights, etched brass detail set and full colour decals are also included along with comprehensive instructions
.

A139 - DROPS 155mm Ammunition Load £33.33 (Export) £40.00 (U.K./E.C.)

This 1/35th scale resin and etched brass accessory kit by Rob Tearle depicts a typical AS90 155mm ammunition ULC Flatrack load for DROPS.*

This set depicts 8xULC and a pallet of 155mm shells, partially uncovered at both ends and below, and sitting on pallets. AS90 Ammunition is generally delivered in bulk with one complete load for each AS90. The rounds are fired first before using the vehicles' stowed supplies.

The pictures show the load strapped to a DROPS Flatrack (A137)(Which is not included in this set). The set may be used with either A137 or with the A138 Flatrack supplied with our Foden DROPS kits (K179 & K180).

A full cargo load strap set (A144) is included along with a set of full colour decals and comprehensive instructions.

.

A058 - ISO 20 Foot Container £29.17 (Export). £35.00 (U.K./E.C)

The container can be stacked, transported or handled by any container transport system, or by the use of DROPS.

A138 - DROPS Flatrack - ISO & General loads £21.67 (Export) £26.00 (U.K./E.C.)

This 1/35th scale resin and etched brass accessory kit by Rob Tearle depicts a Flatrack load for DROPS.

The key to DROPS is the Flatrack which is loaded and unloaded (in around 30 seconds) using the Miltilift hook system. Generally the loads sit on the flatrack until used, and the 'empty' Flatrack uplifted later.

This set depicts a standard Flatrack used for general cargo, vehicles, and loads up to 15 Tonnes. This version has the ISO fittings to allow containers and equipment transport frames of up to 20 Foot to be attached directly to the Flatrack, other loads are strapped on using cargo straps.

Flatracks can be stacked on top of each other for transport.(This is the Flatrack supplied as standard with the Foden DROPS kits (K179 & K180).

A144 - Cargo load straps £5.83 (Export) £7.00 (U.K./E.C.)

This 1/35th scale resin and fibre accessory kit by Rob Tearle depicts a set of Cargo securing straps for Flatrack loads for DROPS.

The key to DROPS is the Flatrack which is loaded and unloaded (in around 30 seconds) using the Miltilift hook system. Generally the loads sit on the flatrack until used, and the 'empty' Flatrack uplifted later.

Loads (usually on pallets) are strapped on using cargo straps with ratchets.

This set includes 2m (6.5 feet) of thin strap material and an etched brass set (with plastic rod) to make up 12x Ratchets and 24 strap end hooks.

Those straps look very good, and price is good too. I wish Load Handling System will come as separate set, a lot of possibilties as flat rack is already available to. I have seen it last week in Duxford and it looks fantastic.

I love subjects like this, even if I'm not familiar with the actual vehicle. Nice going AA!

Hi guys, I agree with Adam, i asked Derek from AA if this LHS is the same as on the HEMTT. He said he would look in to it. It would be great if so and this LHS would be sold separate as a conversion for the HEMTT. Gé

The DROPS is a Multilift mk IV systemas seen Janes site The HEMTT PL S is also a Multilift product, but I can't find at this moment his name.

Salut Pascal Looks like the Multilift system fitted to the PLS variant is a Mk V : from this thread : https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/152873 Frenchy

Thanx Frenchy, I 've just retrieve the name and it is a MkV Multilift system.(as you say) So DROPS and M1120 LHS load systems are surely different.
JUN 27, 2011 - 10:59 PM
Ok, but what is the difference on them?, as i scratchbuild one that is being used on M1120, and when i compare it (only by looking through glass cabinet on AA DROPS to be fair) they looked pretty much the same. I found this article: LINK , but i have a picture of capacity plate from M1120 and it is saying Mark V

Adam You can also compare the M1120 Mark V to the Mark IV fitted to these ex-British Army Leyland Daf trucks : http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicle/related/18438/Leyland_Daf_8x6.htm http://www.mod-sales.com/auction/vehicle/related/37049/LEYLAND_DAF_8X6_DROPS_%28BIG_HOOK%29_TRUCK_MULTI_LIFT_LHD_DIRECT_GOVERNMENT_SALE.htm Frenchy

I had a chance to closely look at DROPS last year at Southport airshow (a bit after i finished my build) and i must say that i haven't notice any diference. Maybe there will be few bits different on frame, rollers etc, but in general it is the same system, especially if you look at the arm. I will say that unless somebody is aiming for 100% accuracy and will count rivets LHS from AA (if they will offer one separately) will be ok for any HEMTT or other vehicles. If i am wrong please correct me.
