Most of us old timers remember Fhoto-Cut photo etched parts, etched onto a backing sheet, and requiring no clean up. MIG recently re-introduced this method on some of his latest releases. Now Lion-Roar have thrown their hats into the arena with these sets of "Screws" and Hex Heads.
review
Coming etched without any attachment points to clean up, make using these tiny parts a breeze. But at first glance they appear to have a frame around the parts, there really isn't. Just a lot of excess material, keeping everything in place.
Each sheet (they come 1 per package) has two protective coverings, one is a clear film, that easily peels off the from the front, the other is the blue backing sheet, simply peel this from the back of the frame, and you have a sheet of clean "screw" or hex heads to use on your model.
The hex heads are really nice, although being photo etched are limited to the thickness of the sheet, will make rather shallow or raised hex bolt heads on the surface of your model. Useful, yes, the savior of the modeling world, not really, but extremely useful in certain applications.
The "screws" are really more like flat rivets- that should make the rivet counters happy, and for the mighty sum of less than $4.00 per sheet, you no longer need to sit around with your miniature punch and die sets punching out tiny rivets, in my opinion, a great time saver. Though having no slot, or Phillips cross, they are simply- A BLANK DISK- and in my honest opinion, would have been better having at least either a slot or cross etched into one side to better serve as true "screws".
Useful for all scales, the diameter for both the "screws" and Hex Heads are as follows: LT0030= .6mm Round Screw LT0031= .8mm Round Screw LT0032= .9mm Round Screw LT0033= 1 mm Round Screw
LT0034= .6mm Hex Head LT0035= .8mm Hex Head LT0036= .9mm Hex Head LT0037= 1mm Hex Head
SUMMARY
Highs: No clean up of pesky attachment points on tiny parts.Lows: Has limitations due to thickness, and lack of slots and crosses. Verdict: A useful addition to the supply locker.
