Great work so far Todd,
Careful though it looks like you have some gaps underneath the sides of the front glacis!

I get the impression that these new trumpeter 'E' kits are pretty quick no-hassle builds that go together well OOB? Would you guys that have built them agree?

I have build the E10 and it is a great build. No problems - everything fits together well. The kit just falls together. Don't shake the box too much on the way home from the LHS as there might be a finished E10 in the box when you open it

A highly recommended model

I have moved on with my build of the E-10. Decals has now been added and details painted. I used the kit decals. They settle very well, but the numbers look a bit too big for such a small jagdpanzer. Anyway, maybe I just have to get used to the size of the numbers.

More to follow...

Despite my backlog of unfinished kits, I can't resist this one. Mrs. Wombat gave me Scale Military Vehicle Conversions by Duncan Howarth for Christmas, which includes a how-to for the KV-3 Obiekt 220:
from The Russian Battlefield.
As it happens I have a couple Trumpeter donor kits so the styrene chips will fly!

Hey Wombat, I beleive there was a conversion build of the KV-3 in a military modelling magazine from a while back. Although I seem to remember the turret was different as it had sloping armour. May be of some use to you?

Unfortunately my stack of modeling magazines is pretty thin. If anyone comes across it, please let me know.

James is right, it was the AFV special issue of Millitary Modelling from last year, apparently it was dubbed the Russian Tiger...

Mrs Wombat seems to be a cool lady.

Mrs Captain bought me the Geschutzwagen, so I guess we are both lucky guys. Speaking of the Geschutzwagen, I was doing the final assembly, when I noticed I camoflaged the wrong side of the outer roadwheels. I came to a grinding stop, and haven't got it going again yet.

Thats the one Mark.
I'm pretty sure i've got the issue at home Wombat, if you drop me a PM with your e-mail address i'll see if I can dig it out and scan you the article.

Unlucky Carl, I hate it when some set back like that happens and it sucks all of the drive out of your project! Hopefully you can get it rolling again soon!

In other 'news' I hope to begin my Maus project pretty soon, which will involve giving the old 1/35 DML kit a major overhaul! Just waiting on a reference book kindly donated by Mike (TacFireGuru) before I get started so that I can get the build as accurate as possible (as if spending twice as much on aftermarket than the kit cost isnt enough!)

Cheers,

James

Here's a taste of whats in store:

(A lot) more info can be seen on My Build Thread

I actually think I deserved it. I should have looked at the instructions a little closer. But as the saying goes, that which doesn't kill us will only make us better modelers.

Here is my finished entry: Trumpeters E-10. A really good kit with good details, PE included in the kit for the side skirts and the engine grilles, choice of two types of track, and in addition both types of track in rubber band or individual links. A highly recommended kit.

I am very satisfied with the result and had fun building it, so this is what the hobby is all about in my humble opinion.

It was a joy to participate and I might sneak in another entry if time allows.

Looks great Jesper. It amazes me as to how you can turn out so many great builds as fast as you do.

Thanks, Carl. I appreciate it.

I normally build several kits at the same time, so there is normally no modellers fatigue. If I get bored with a kit I leave it, and work on something else. In this way it is always fun to build and paint.

In addition the E10 is much more simple to build and paint than a Grille II.

The lower hull is almost done on my KV-3:

Needless to say, thinks didn't go exactly to the article in the conversion book. If you decide to tackle this yourself, the instructions for cutting the side applies only to the right side. Once you've cut them as instructed, use the lengths to cut the left side. I did not, unfortunately, and now this has cost me three kits instead of two (guess I'll have to turn the leftovers into a blowed-up KV-2 diorama later...)

Also, I had to move several of the rubber arm-stops - not an easy task. Replacement arm-stop mounts had to be scribed out of the remainder side pieces, sanded to the appropriate width, etc. And, unfortunately, I didn't catch one as being off until I took the photos this AM (first photo, fifth from front).

But, progress is being made, despite my best efforts...

This is a great thread so far. I was hesitant to join in as I thought the only low-production- volume vehicle I had in my stash was my 1/35th Dora
However on closer inspection I turned up a CMK resin Minenraumer so I decided to give that a whirl and sign up.
I'm not sure whether to build it as the prototype standing in the factory or as a vehicle in the field...any thoughts?

I have a bunch of ideas, but I have two particular kits in mind. A 1/72 Karl (I have the Hobby Boss early, and the Hasegawa), and the Fujimi 1/144 Dora. Since there's the Big Guns campaign, I can certainly build one for that, but I'd build the other for this.
The number produced would fit the profile, I guess.

Well I am glad to see all the projects coming along. I am really happy to see the KV-3 project. Sorry I am been away for awhile. I runn a small family bussiness and it has been a very busy season for us, then my wife had knee surgery, but I ma close to getting back up to speed. The Minerammer and other project question above would be fine. I have started my MAus project. Anyone have any pictures of the one captured by the russians or any history on it?

V1 and V2 were both captured by the Russians after being sabotaged by their respective crews, the Russians took the hull of V1 and added the turret of V2 to create a full tank which was taken back to Russia for tests, arriving may 4th 1946 after which it was put into the kubinka tank museum, a search for this will bring up plenty of pics of the Maus at Kubinka, however, this is the only period photo I have:

This is the combined V1 hull and V2 turret (note the differing camouflage) on its way to Russia (note the russian officer on left hand side of pic). Interestingly, the hammer and sickle markings on the side of the hull were apparently applied by the Germans to give the impression it was a russian vehicle, not their own (to confuse allied spies perhaps?).

If anyone's interested my 1/35 Maus build for the campaign can be seen on my " TARGET="_blank">build thread

here's a couple of pics showing my progress so far:
