I used that one until I made the Gator Navy banner.
I have one of the two rail cars about 1/2 done. I love the big parts on this. I have a feeling the finish on the cars is going to be harder than a regular tank. So much unpainted metal that needs to be work with.
But, I am looking forward to the challange.

I've started assembling tracks for my Dragon Karl-60CM version. I was contemplating Friulmodel tracks but will probably buy those for my Trumpeter Karl. Not sure which "named" Karl I am building--The options are small but so are the decal options unless someone knows of any decal sets that have been made for the Karl with all of the names on it. I would think someone has made a decal set--and with minimal markings on each Karl I would assume its only half of a page........

This darn K5 build is driving me nuts. I am missing pieces and have broken pieces. So, I must make sue with what I have. The fit is decent and I am almost totally done with one rail car.
I might give it a shot of Panzer Grey this weekend. I was going to do the two tone scheme that is with the instructions, but I might for with Panzer Grey. The only AM I am getting is the dry transfer decals from Archer. I might ask a machinist here at work to turn me a barrel on our CNC equipment. If I do, I will have him make me a dozen or two.
So far I am ahead of my schedule on this build and I plan to keep it that way.

I started on my small Trumpeter 1/144 Morser "Thor". The build was almost over before it started. I build this little model in little over 2 hours. The details are surprisingly good in this scale. A nice although very small kit. In hindsight I would probably have gone for a 1/72 model, as it is not as big as I expected.
I am going to finish it as "Thor" in 1942 during the bombardment of Sevastopol.
More to follow soon....

Jesper,
This was suppose to be BIG gun...
How will you paint this tiny bugger? With an airbrush or just with paintbrushes?

Hm. Lately my life took some interesting turns, and I won't be able to start the 1/144 Dora. However, in the last weekend I put together a 1/144 Leopold by DML and Karl by Trumpeter (the DML looks better judging by the photos, but the Trumpeter's box is excellent to store the Humbrol paints). I realized that there are things I would not be able to build in 1/35, hence the small scale -at least they are comparable. (The Dora is mighty big even in this scale. Dwarfs the Leopold...)
If there are no objections, I'd enter those, then.

Nice build Jesper, my initial build will be Dragon's 1/144 Loki. After that I'm going to lay into AFV Club's StormTiger as I have NEVER built a Tiger 1 before.

Well, I guess that will do. That does look like a nice little build.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Glad to hear I am not the only one doing small big guns in 1/144
I have now added the base coat. I considered if it was worth starting up the compressor and airbrush for this little bugger, but I did to get into all the small corners and get an even finish.
Next is the detail painting and the decals....

I just picked up a 1/35 "Karl" 60 cm at a flea market.
Guess what I will be building.

I am building Karl for the SP Artilery campaign.

Wow, Carl. I want to go to that kind of flea markets - you were really lucky picking up a kit like that at a flea market.
I have now moved on with my kit. Details painted, decals added and a simple weathering such as worn of paint and a dark wash added. I think this will be the fastest build I ever made.
I am already considering a Sturmtiger or a Soviet 203mm howitzer as my second entry.

Very nice looking work there.
I seel a few kits at my flea market. I do have some deals, but I also make sure I make money. No way I could sell a Karl at my place.
I am putting my Leopold build at about 47% at the moment. I need to get some pictures of it. But, I am busy with a submarine at the moment.

Thanks for the comment, Jim. You should share some pictures of your build if you are already half way there.
I have now finished my first build in 1/144. It was almost over before I got started. In hindsight I should have worked with 1/72 instead, but I was affraid of the size of these big guns.
Anyway, here is my finished entry.

Thanks, Andrzej. I appreciate it.
I agree with you on the size. I think this was my first and last try at 1/144 scale.

Well, after just over two weeks here is my progress. The gun is just set into the center section. I have the two rail cars painted, panzer grey. I plan on building a small scene and calling it "Factory Fresh."

Hi Jim
Your K5 looks great so far.
Is it Dragon's or Trumpeter's? I'm going to build Leopold by Trumpeter as soon as I finish my entry to OTEF campaign.

It is Dragon's kit. I have found a good deal of "errors" in thier directions as well.
I asked my wofe a coupe fo times what it looked like I was supposed to do and even she was confused.
I have only had a couple problems and one part MIA. I can camoflauge that if need be.
No work on it this weekend, heading to the Antiques Roadshow with some treasures.
But, I will be back at it Monday!

Errors in Dragons instructions? Imagine that I think their directions have become the joke of the industry. But their moldings are fantastic.

The kit is very nice, but the instructions are less than perfect. It drives me nuts when a company cannot get those correct. I am a technical writer/technical Illustrator and have done similar types of things for many different companies so I cannot understand why Dragon cannot get it right.
OK, off my soap box now.
What really impressed me was the barrel. I was worried it was have a nasty seam. It is actually not all that bad. I did fill and an sanding it, but I should have it done shortly. Then I need to wai for my other paint to get here.
I also got the Archer dry transfer decals for the gun, but did nto get the railcar decals. Those are the only extras I am getting, othersie, OOB.

OK everyone, let’s see some progress!!
I missed my planned one month build time, but I think I can still get my bad boy done shortly. Just some sanding on the barrel and then I can get that portion added to the big picture.
Then onto my next big task, the base and the rail road ties. There are a pretty good number of those that need to be finished and added to the base, after it is painted.
I will see if I can get some more pictures this weekend with the major assemblies together and painted.
