I started my Thor Mortar, a Dragon kit.
So far the rollers and wheels, step 1 is done and step 2 is half way.
Already a Dragon instruction problem... wrong numbers for the small stairs..
Edit:
Added the small stairs, some other details, the lower hull is almost done except the tracks..

I've started some subassemblies of main gun - I'll post some pictures as soon as I can. Right now I'm working on some stuff for Airborne and HT campaigns. I'm also preparing some of my models for show I'm going to this saturday.

My Karl build is so close to being done. There are a few little things I can always take care of but there is only one thing holding me from calling "Eva" done. I just need one friggin "Eva" name decal to call it complete.
Then I'll start working on a diorama... But that's when I've completed this first campaign for me
Hope the rest of you guys are faring better
Richard

I've been working on my 1/35 dragon 60cm karl when time permits but I got to a point when referencing photos that I found out that this kit did not include some obvious parts unless I am just not seeing them on one of the sprues. Its missing both Notek lights, the horn next to the one notek light, some conduit on each side, two electrical? conduits or vents?? on the one end and a few other parts. I had purchased a PE fret from lion roar a while back but it did not include these things. So, I got somewhat frustrated and havent moved on it because I keep fighting in my mind whether I should just finish it with inaccuracies to complete the campaign or just hold up and build it more accurately since the model is so large and expensive. I thought of stealing some parts from other models but would still not have all that I need. I'm sure someone has been at this point when building before or am I just being to picky? Anyway, I think I may try to acquire the parts I need since I think I have seen some better PE sets that are now available for the Karl. I have heard that the tracks that come with the kit are too wide, which I was willing to live with but being that this is a model worth making accurate I may not be able to finish the campaign. I checked trumpeters karl and it appears as if they included some of the items that are missing on the dragon Karl. I just dont have the time to scratch build some of the parts I need--I guess I should have went with the Leopold One lesson I have learned from this is to stare at every inch of armor reference materials and not to just gloss over the photos. Its funny how things can hide right in plain sight-lol Oh well--i won't give up and will try to move forward and see how far I can get.

Lack of details can be a major PIA. I found this out while working on a ship I am building. So many details were left off, so I had to order more PE and wait, and add some and wait. Look for references, wait, order more PE wait...etc....
It makes a person wanna scream. But it is fun or I wouldn't be doing it.

http://armorama.com/forums/129040&page=6
I'm so glad to have it finished. How's everyone else doing on their projects?
Richard
Is anyone having trouble with the kitmaker photos? I was hoping to put my photos on there so I know for certain I've completed this campaign

I just love leaving things until the last minute (not) so I started my 1/35 Trumpeter Morser Karl today. That gives me a bit over a month to finish it. I am building the mortar first, then, if I have time, I will build the trucks and support structures.
I actually finished the Early Version a few months ago and you would think I would not make too many mistakes with this late version. But surprisingly this one has suspension parts in the chassis whereas the Early version didn't. I made a boo boo with the divided box part and had to remove the rear suspension bit to put it in the right spot. Broke the floor part getting it out so I had to repair it before I went any further. Oh well.
Learning from my other one I will not be leaving it until it is finished to paint the beasty but will be paining the sub-assemblies as I go. I found that leaving it until everything was assembled made it almost impossible to get to some parts to paint them. Luckily the plastic looks a little like mud and that is what I say whenever someone asks if I missed a bit, "Nah mate just some Russian mud sprayed up there is all."
Anyway, Good luck to everybody who are still building.

RIchard.
Yes, there ar eproblems with the gallery. I will note that you are finished and we can always add photos to the gallery later.
Warren,
I think you can do it. I know my Leopold went together fast. Now all the little things are slowing my down, I have a Karl to build as well and will keep in mind your comments about painting as you go.

Well, I have begun making my K5 looked more used. The Panzer Grey fading from MIG pigments works really nicely.
These are all the front car before it gets dirty. The back car has begun to get dirty now.

I haven't tried the washes yet. I do have a couple other washes I use at times.
Hopefully I can get some work done on the center section this weekend and wrap up some fo the tiny details I am waiting to do so I can stamp this build done!

Hello everyone!
Well, I finally finished the beast yesterday and here are some piccies of it. I have been experimenting with Mig Pigments and tried to get a dusty look of a gun firing on the dry Russian steppes.
Using the flash on the camera makes it look even dustier than I thought it would. I left the 'hubcaps' off the drive sprockets with this one. And I only just realised that I called my grey one on the railway carriers Thor as well, so this is the updated Thor with the 54cm gun.
The one bad aspect of this kit is the painting instructions from Trumpeter. They didn't even give the colours to pain the bits of the drivers pit... or the shells provided. I guessed on this scheme from one of the common photos of this SPG on the web.
Another view. I will build the railway carriers later.
Trumpeter are my favourite model manufacturer at the moment. I may even try and build the K5 Leopold before the end of this campaign... Nah!!!

Hmmm... I think I may not have QUITE enough time.. :-) I have to finish off an F-104 for Aeroscale Speed Campaign, and I am building four, yes, count them four, SDKfZ 234 armoured cars for the Wheeled AFV campaign here on Armourama. I think that will do for this moment..

Warren,
Nice Thor! I was thinking of buying one, but I simply have not enough space for another monster of this size .
I've painted whole Leo in base colour, now I'm painting wooden parts and applying gunmetal wherever I will apply salt for paint chipping.
