Nick your Type 97 looks fantastic, the weathering with the dead grass looks real and the como does the model proud. Good job Nick

CHARLES I put a darker wash on my Type 79 and it does look better here are some pics of it now. I think the next item I need to invest in is a photo curtain/booth to difuse the light so my photos will come out better.

Wooo, this is getting scary. It's coming down to the wire! My resin, metal, PE, Type 4 Ho-Ro is soooo close! Gonna get the primer on her today and try to get her out the door!

Looks like those Friul tracks are gonna have to go on something else.

Ok - I'll try to upload a few photos I took last month of my M4A3 Flame Tank COMET of C/4th Tank Bn...sorry for the dark photos...but my camera went goofy...

A view of the top of the turret...some mods made since this photo

A good side view...

3/4 view from the front...

Tracks are on now, and I only have to paint the 38 COMET on the side, and add the sandbags, water tank and hatchcages...

S/F

Pat

And, as we get down to the wire, here's my Ho Ni Type 1 SPG

It was built SOB, although the tracks have been replaced by Friul aftermarket ones. Finish was with Tamiya paints, and lightly weathered with Tamiya Flat Earth/Buff and MiG pigments.

I also managed to get this one done:

The inspiration for this was a colour profile in the AJ press series of a Type 97 in Mongolia in winter camouflage. I was given the Type 97, and finished it using the hairspray method for winter camoflage. This was also my first attempt at groundwork - I wanted to have the tank situated on the Mongolian steppes just after a dusting of snow. I have a figure of a Japanese tanker in winter gear that I'm working on as well, but he wasn't quite done...

A couple more pictures:

Everything is really coming along! Builds are certainly looking great. I have had a few people come forth and ask for possible extensions. I will see what I can swing. I week or two might be great for everyone to get those last touches. I finished my dio tonight but I have been having some dreadful camera trouble... a run to best buy in the morning might sort it out.

As for the ribbon. This is my thought. This is the American Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon from WW2. I was thinking about putting this and the Japanese rising sun flag together to form the ribbon.

Any thoughts as to how to do it?!

Looks great Grant. I especially like your white wash finish. Thanks for participating.

Mike, good idea on the ribbon. I would just make the ribbon without the sun. It can easily be a little messy when you have to compress the picture and only have it 20 x 50 pixels.

First off: the campaign has been extended until June 15. It will give everyone a little extra time to get things together.

Thanks Jesper for the advice. I tooled around with it last night and have a good idea as to what to do now. Thanks again!

Mike, thank you, thank you, thank you for the extension! My Ho-Ro is so close I can taste it and it was really killing me to put on rubber bands and take some other shortcuts just to make deadline. This after all of the resin, metal, and PE sunk into it. Now I can finish it right.

It will definitely be worth the extension and the wait!

Thanks again!

Hello guys.
Finally Type 97 Chi-Ha finished!!
I finished everything Friday late at night. Saturday early in the morning brought it at the 9th Athens show of Star club. I’ve won the gold medal at the AFVs’ category.
Yesterday evening took it back so … here are some pics. Hope you’ll like it.

and some more close-ups

Nick.

PS. I would like to add that I am preparing a small diorama with 2 crew figures and 3 more Japanese army soldiers in the jungle of Malay.

Hi All,

Grant and Nick, both of you have done a great job. I'm looking forward to Nick's diorama also.

I'm glad the deadline has been pushed back, although I still have my doubts about finishing! Well done Mike, that was a good move, now a lot more entries will hopefully be submitted. I can't help with the campaign ribbon as my computer skills aren't too flash, but good luck anyway.

Great result, Nick. You really deserved the gold. There is a lot of work and details put into the tank and it shows! Congratulations!

Finally my entry has reached the level of acceptance. Unfortunately the diorama is not completed yet, but the single Alligator is fair enough for the ribbon
The last days I spent my time with the weathering and mudding. Hope the pictures show my Amtank in a typical amphibious condition.
Enjoyed this build and tried some new techniques (heavy weathering with pigments and varnishes, sandbag making of 2K putty, welding lines of putty…). Although the Italeri model is very poor and I will recommend only for fanatics…BTW this is my very first USMC tank on my shelf. (Later will build USMC M4A3, probably Italeri and the new Dragon parallel)

Hello everyone,

Here is my entry a 1/35th Tamiya Stuart light Tank. It’s loosely based on a picture of several sand colored UNITED STATES MARINES M3 Tanks. They are lined up on a beech someplace in the Pacific (some think it’s Midway Island or maybe in Hawaii). I built the kit stock the only difference comparing the model to the pictures is the rear storage boxes were not present. I left them on because I did not want to try to create those tiny rivet heads exposed by the box being gone. Also there was 6-digit serial number next to the “USMC” but I did not have the correct size or color of dry transfers (and cannot get them before Monday) so this will do for me.
I have enjoyed viewing all the great models and vignettes. What a great modeling theme (In my opinion) of WWII.

Sincerely,
Brian

Here it is, the final day. It's 2:26 am my time. I'll have her done tonight- just gotta attach the doo-dads and put on some dust. Disaster was narrowly averted when we found all of the interior pieces that I knocked on to the floor by accident.

Pics tonight to slide in right under deadline.

Nick, I really like your Type 97. However, if it's not too late, you may want to remove a couple links. The Chi-Ha's tracks were very taut and did not have so much sag in them.

Happy Father's Day folks!
