Really not happy with the paint job on the tiger esp compared to the great builds going on here. So out with the oven cleaner and it's back to the dark yellow. I'll ordered a regulator and pump for the airbrush and I'll do a bit of practicing with what is left in the propellant can to try and get the brown camo on better. I really want to get down and detailing this. going to try to use foil for the exhaust covers so I can bash them up a little.

@ Keith that is a dirty T-34!
@ Greg nice ideas for dios esp the wreck

There's so much going on here, that I can not possibly comment each build seperately. All I can say is:"well done, gentlemen. Keep it up!!

It's been more then a month since I last did anything on one of my builds, but here's a little update from me again.
I added a few details to the vehicle to give it a bit more life.
First the little flag at the rearantenna. It is made up of 2 printouts glued together with added decals. And when posting the pictures I noticed that I have to touch up the divisional insignia.

Hi there!
I've been following your progress on that 251, and I really like how it is turning out.
Cool! A certainly good job with scratchbuilding the wiring.
Personally, I would weather it a little more, but it is only a matter of taste.
Cheers.

Sheldon, nice bash up of the two kits. It looks very good - almost like they were meant for each other Looking forward to see more.

Ron, what a fantastic kit. The level of detail is stunning! You should enter this into model of the month competition, when you finish.
Looking forward to see more of this beauty

Great work on the radio truck lots of nice touches like the jacket hanging up bring it to life
Looking forward to seeing the rocket truck take shape. So many great talents in this one thread.
So sorry to lower the standard but I am newbie so any advice and criticism welcome.
I've redone the camo on my tiger and attached the road wheels. This decreases the part count
somewhat!

What's the next step? It's a matte finish at the moment. Filter? gloss coat for decals?
I'll content myself with the cables and cleaning rods for now. The resin replacements are really detailed just hope I can do them justice.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I really appreciate it!
The vehicle isn't done yet. I still have to apply the matt varnish and weather it.
@Jesper; I do not enter competitions as I think my level is not high enough + the fact that it might ruin my fun in building things my way, my tempo...
@JP; I think you should apply the gloss and the decals first, then the matt finish. After that dried completely, go fot the wahes, filters and other finishing touches.

Well, the vehicle is done. All I have to do are the figures.
Decals have been touched up and I have added a few essential details, the supporting struts for the maptable! I completely forgot those, because they had broken off in an early stage.
The weathering is made up a Tamiya buff-wash, followed by a powdering with medium brown pastelchalk. After that the vehicle has been lightly dusted with beige/light grey. The edges have been done by rubbing them with the light grey chalk.
After that the whole thing has been blended with the following results:

Gentlepeople, I'm impressed with what I see here! (I'm one of those wierdos who likes to see people have fun with what they're doing, y'know?)

Anyway, I happened to recall that I had enlisted in this campaign, and sure enough, yep! That raised the question, "What in tarnation was I going to build? Oh, yeah... a Shake'N'Glue!" Those of you who may not be familiar with the term, I'm talking Tamiya.

Last night I removed the wrapping from my Tamiya Su-122 and began quite simply by assembling roadwheels, drivers and idlers. Oh, yes... I also assembled the two aux fuel tanks. That was somewhere around... oh, 2200 or so when I quit? Well, then, true to Tamiya form, I basically put the rest into the box, added glue, shook it around and out it came ready to paint.

For a kit that's copyrighted nearly 35 years ago, it sure has gone together well. Far less hassle than the Italeri/Zvezda T-34/85 that I build for the Father & Son campaign. The true test will be when I put the tracks on and tension them. (Yes, this is allowed by kit design; we'll see just how well it works in reality. If all it does is make it easier to get the kit tracks on, it's worth it.) It would be nice to see how some a/m tracks would be, seeing as the kit tracks are those nasty vinyl things. But so be it.

So here's pics of the bulk of it; just need to paint the roadwheels and the wearpoints of the idlers and drivers, and then the pioneer tools.

And a quick little preview to give an idea of what it'll be like finished:

More later, folks!

Following yeahwiggies advice, gloss coated the turret and got the decals on the little tiger last night.

Despite my fears the decals settled around the zimm very well no silvering. Nice work trumpeter.

After another coat of future, and a coat of matte did a dark wash to dirty up the paint work and reduce the contrast and fill in the recesses around bolts and the like.

While waiting for coats of varnish to dry I also painted the rubber band tracks.
Dark brown base, dry brushed buff, then dry brushed steel on very raised points . Seem to look like dirty metal tracks, not sure how they are supposed to go on mind you. Melt the ends together? on or off the model?

Drybrushed steel on the roadwheel rims.

Then as I was taking the whole lot back to the cupboard I dropped the box I had the tank in. Gun barrel broke and rear mud flap popped off. Oh cock! This is why I need a workbench. Isn't too bad the crack in the barrel is clean and should be able to fix it OK.

how do I fit the track and get the sag after the drive wheel? Will the tension of the vinyl track not just break the wheels?

It is a nice change to making aircraft I'm certainly working much quicker than I do with aircraft. I think the small size might have something to do with it.

Thanks for the help and advice so far folks

Hi JP, I've been following your struggles and can relate. I'm no wiz but I put superglue on top of the road wheels and then use small dowels or the weight of coins to sag the track down. Hold 30 seconds (or overnight if a lot of vinyl track stretch is needed) and your ready for the next step. It's looking good and keep us posted, Greg

Aye I am making a bit of a meal of something which prob come second nature to a lot of more experienced guys and gals. At least I'm enjoying the battle though. I got a tip from a really old armorama post to train the tracks for a week by putting them in place loosely so they remember their shape to make fitting easier.
Also this video using rod to hold the track down. Slightly bizarre seeing pretty japanese girl building a tamiya tank, she is really good great tutorial seris of videos.

Thanks greg i'll try the glue on the tops of the road wheels. that too seems to make sense. I remember just pasting plastic together all thumbs and slapping paint on when I was 10. Seems I must have actually grown up a little in the past 25 years then. How did that happen

Nice Pz. III, Scott.

Sounds like your Tiger is coming along nice, JP. The reason tanks are (usually) quicker to build is not the size, but the fact very little masking, if any at all, needs to be done. Looking forward to see some pictures.
