Hi Phil!
I have a question about the voyager's PE set 35179
http://www.voyagermodel.com/productdetails.asp?itemid=PE35179
I can't figure out if the stowage bin is included or not it the set.
Anyway thanks a million for the thread...answered dozen of questions without even asking for them. Truly a picture is worth a thousand words or so...

Hi Phil - sorry to butt in.
Paul; PE35179 does not contain a PE Gepack Kasten. I often use the Voyager Model website for reference on contents of each set - the diagrams of the PE set are more helpful than the photographs.
I hope that helps.
All the best to the Tigerphiles!
Bill

Happy New Year everybody... Ahh well I only missed it by two weeks!
Well time to emerge from the hibernation cave then?
Hi Paul, hope all is well with you in this new decade! Sorry for not getting back to you on the Voyager set... But thankfully Bill came to the rescue.
Hello Bill! How is the Tiger sabbatical going? Drawing to a close, I hope?
I finally broke out the 'Tiger day box' and got going again with some clean up and arranging of interior parts... The firewall, from the Verlinden set #2300 has had me pondering. This piece is meant to represent the 'typical' arrangement of a late Tiger 1's firewall, the majority of the features appear to be in place... but a lot of others are omitted. The ventilator flap/door located to the right of the firewall's fire extinguisher, also the strip rails for the spare MG ammunition pouches, and the large fuse, relay, and junction plate to the left of the extinguisher. But it is still a better choice than the CMK version with the earlier four vents. I just have to decide weather to go with the scratched/converted one I bashed, or to modify this... Or even to add this to another build?
Another area of the interior of '211D' that I have been mulling over is the turret baskets floor, and it's surrounding floor stowage box lids. All the resin kits supply... Well rather thick one piece lids, though Eduards do look promising! I think that with a swift cut here and there, these PE parts could be furnished on the underside with their folded lips, and a rough representation of the spring loaded catches, thus allowing me a chance at having some displaced and upturned. The only problem then would be the visable angle frames they once were located on.
You never know? Maybe someone in the near future could produce a new tiger interior, with these (and other parts) realised in photo-etched brass? Well that's my New Years Wish out in the open!
Cheers... Phil.

Happy New Year you Phil! My New Year wish is that Dragon would come out with interior for their kits such as the Tiger, PZ IV's, etc. Wouldn't that make life easier?
The PE part does look better than the resin...

Hi Phil,
I have been lurking around this thread for a long time, and have spent a lot of time revisiting it in the last few days.
I am going to make an index, so I can quickly locate pages I want to read again.
I really like the comparison between the Gunze and Tamiya paints. And am looking forward to seeing how the gaia Paints work out for you.
Keep up the good work, and hope to see more soon.

Well Happy New Year folks! Mine started a bit late!!!
Thanks for the Salutation Dan... And the Bourbon tips!
Hi Paul, thanks for dropping by, great to see your litter of kitties coming together. I am full of admiration for your painting style Paul, many fine techniques employed upon the Tigers.
Hello John... Welcome aboard, and sorry for the delay on the reply, been 'standing in the water' as far as modelling etc has been concerned recently. I am playing with further thinners for the Gaia colours, as it is difficult to get their full range shipped to Europe! See you around soon, thanks for the interest.
Well a day in the house for once, and I cracked open the first box of a DML/Cyber Hobby #6660 Mid Tiger 1 Befehlswagen... Phew what a cracker! I have not had to great a sorte into this cardboard carton Aladdin's Cave, but I think we have possibly the best 1/35 kit ever produced thus far... Maybe I am just biased, but this kit ticks all the boxes for me!
The new tooled areas, especially concerning the Turret and the Hull Roof, is outstanding, I particulary like the sheet shroud that has been incoporated to cover the turret gear ring and ball race, with a little additions of some bolts and some stretced sprue weld seams, that awkward area omited by other incarnations and AM interior manufactures will really make interior detailing a lot easier.
You will also have to bear with me on the photograph front, as I have updated the camera, and I am still getting my head around the controls and settings.
Don't worry, I am not about to ditch poor old '211' in favour of this new kitten! Though '008' looks a distinct possibility!
Back real soon folks! Cheers Phil.

Hi Phil,
Good to see you back in action here.
I have to agree, the detail on the new 'mid' kit is very impressive.
Did you see this?
I'm wondering what they've "revised". The completed track link count?
Maybe Friul have been reading your blog.
Best,
Grant.

Hi again Phil,
On the zimmerit front, this arrived today; Trumpeters zim tool 09916:
I don't know if people are aware? But this is the exact same kit as Modelkasten's zim tool MK-R1:
Maybe Trumpeter purchased the rights to the moulds?
I haven't tried it yet. But it looks pretty good, though all plastic.
A roller and stamp for the "standard" pattern, roller and stamp for the "wide breadth" pattern and a stamp for the "narrow breadth" pattern.
...and it's cheaper than the original Modelkasten set
Grant.

I used the modelkasten set for my Tiger and though it took me a while to get the technique I was very happy with the result

Evening Dan!
Good to be back at the brink of the bench again! Time to lock the Bourbon away, and get out the impliments.
Hello Grant... My my back for a little while, and you have got me reaching for the Debit Card again. I spotted the ModelKasten/Trumpeter Zimmerit applicators at Telford... But instead I bought uo Lou Stenner's supply of Lion Roar 'Full Metal Hauling Set's', I have got one on the way though! As for the Friulmodel 'Revised' Mid/Late Tracks, I will have to get a set... If only to count them! I wonder if they have included casting marks?
Wotcha Pat! You can always post the results of your endeavours on here if you wish... Never too many Tigers!
Merry new Year Bill! I see you basket of kitties is swelling, looking forwards to the compressor firing up!
Catch you later, cheers Phil.

Hi Phil (and everyone else, of course),
Fantastic thread this !
It is a benchmark for any "novice" Tiger fanatic . I have learned so much reading this thread.
Just bought the 6383 kit myself as well as the 6406 one, so you have given me ton's of tips and courage to tackle those myself
Keep up the great work!
Greetz,
Luke

Hello Luk! Greetz yourself! Thank you very much for joining us all on this downhill Tiger trail! All the merrier, also thank you for the kind comments, I am just attempting to get this back up to speed, before working on the hypothetical VB six!
Welcome back Geraint! How is the 'Keep' going? Good to see you back in the modelling world! Hopefully you have planned a modelling area into 'Chez Lewis'? Take care and thank you for the continued support!
Right Tiger time!
I eventually succumbed to the draw of the settee, and an open #6660! Looking over the newly tooled parts a little more in depth, I found some really neat areas, that have had the detail re-visited. And a bit of a realisation with the turret shell!
Firstly the turret shell! Having been very excited about this release, I got to thinking about possibilities of future builds, with most of the missing components now added to DML's sprue inventory, when I discovered that we still don't have a 'true' Tiger 1 'Mid' turret shell... Because of this particular kits depiction being a 'Winter' '43-44' model, it lacks the port pistol plug port, that it's earlier stable mates had before it's deletion around 'October 43', this in turn affects the location of the five spare track clamps on the turrets side. So if you wanted to add an applique MP- Stopfen, the moulded in guide pits for the bottom part of the spare track clamping system will have to be filled, and the turret roof's moulded rear clamp assembly must also be deleted, and moved further forwards in a more bunched up arrangement. So fingers crossed for a 'Typical Tiger 1 Mid turret shell' in the near future. The detailed realised upon the shell is breathtaking, the plate weld lines, and the inclusion of the turrets rear escape hatches hinge base plate are very nice touches. I also like the way the location holes in the turrets trunnion/lifting lugs have a different orientation than the shells of '#6253,6406,6383,6416! Nifty touch Though the slightly smaller turret wall vision slits for the loader and gunner, could cause a bit of trouble for anyone wanting to use an ATAK resin Zimmerit solution.
The turret roofs splash guard strip is now incorporated, with the correct gap inserted at either end!
The hinge detail on the mudguards attached to the Bow/Glacis apron is also much finer and not as raised, as previous.
Also of note is the retooling of the side skirts mounting lug nuts, these are also much finer, and slightly smaller.
Very nice eh?
Well it's time for work, so cheery bye folks, back soon! ...Cheers Phil!

Hi Dan! How's the domestic disruption going? Can't wait to see the place finished!
Thankfully with the improving weather, and longer days, free time is starting to look more promising!
After our refitting of the joint, I am finally starting to find all of my W.I.P. boxes! So normal service should be resumed very soon!
#6660 is always at hand, as it was last in! So maybe I should adopt Henschel and Sohn's production doctrine? The again a dusting off of '211D' '231' and '211' would probably be more appropiate!
I received a package yesterday... Another foray into the interior, Verlinden again!
Verlinden #1360, dissassembled Tiger 1 engine (the later HL230 P45)
This set offers up quite a few possibillities for diorama builders maintanace depicters and armour wreckers (Rob?), the majority of the motor blocks componnants are cast seperately, enabling the modeller to give the impression of a Tiger under maintenance/repair or a KO'd and looted vehicle... Or even a total wreck. The deatailing on the unit and parts is very crisp, given a fair representation of the later Tiger 1 powerplant, but once again the majority of the hoses, pipes, wiring and control cables are missing! So a lot of page turning and internet searching will be needed in order to give the impression of an actual empty/damaged engine bay.
Another issue with the Verlinden interior sets for me is the unclear scant instructions. These at least have been printed clearly, but they do give very little information to a modeller who has not got a library of references to pour over.
Still a very good item though, and the sculpting and casting are very high standard.
Cheers peeps... Phil

Phil,
Glad to hear that time is opening up for you. The basement is coming along very well and it looks like Dan will have a new hobby home in not too much time!
I've always thought that this VP item would look in the back of the Opel Blitz all torn up being transported back to the rear for a rebuild.

Hello Phil and everybody! It is true that DML's new tiger is awesome, but we really need 'normal', non-command mid version, especially for scenes in Normandy or Russian front.
I've been having bad modeling luck these days In brief: I've bought that great 6253, which is not cheap as we all know, and it made me happy, but...not for long The problem is in sprue E, that is, its complete absence! Thus, turret roofs and some other components are not there, even though the box seem untouched. After initial frustration I began to ask myself what to do and than... I've spilled glue on loader's hatches from my Kurzmaul Tiger!!!
The completion of these two kits is now under big question. I wonder if you kind fellas could tell me what to do: is it possible to order separate sprues from Dragon or should I source them elsewhere...Maybe someone of you had similar situation
Best regards to everyone and sorry for the off topic!
Yours sincerely, Paul.

Hello Again! Many apologies for my absence, the forces of Chaos and 'Strit' struck again!
Still not much in the way of bench time, but I have been shopping! More on that in a bit...
Hi Dan! I'll bet by now Dan, you will have had your first paint spillage in the new workshop? Still Snowing up there?
Geraint, the mouldings get better each time! I am actually thinking that the recent Zimmerit is looking good, but hopefully the 3-1 Mid won't have it!
Have you planned a modelling area into Schloss Lewis?
Hello Paul! Sorry to hear about the missing sprue etc, always a nightmare chasing up missing parts, though I have heard a lot of good things said about 'Dragon Care', if you don't have much success, I should have one spare in the Tiger mountain! Did you see the new wooden block/gun rest on Missing Lynx the other day? If not I'll put a link up! Take care
Right the shopping spree! I have been buying a stack of scenics and figures (and some OD monstrosities! Ssssssssh...) during my enforced modelling sabbatical. The figures are very nice... Takahashi! So far I have acquired, TK13Uscha' 'Bobby' Warmbrunn, TK14 Hscha' Hans Hofflinger, TK21 Uscha' Kurt 'Quax' Kleber, and TK41 Uscha' Jupp Salzer! Just Wittmann and Woll to finnish the group!
And also purchased was this gem ;Platoon/Pegaso PT-034 SS Unterscharführer 1944... A really exquisite cast resin figure!
Okay I'll I have to do now is repair a few bits on the 211 Doppelganger, and get the AB primed an fettled!
Take care all, back ASAP! Cheers Phil!

Phil,
Glad to see that you are still kicking!
White metal figure-didn't know that they were still out there-they will look good on the many Tigers.
No snow here-but a wet spring so far!
The new modelling area should be up and running by the end of the month! Yea!
See ya, Dan

Hi Phil,
Good to see you in print again. Hopefully some Tiger progress pics on the way.
I've also got that figure in the stash. Have to agree with you, it is excellent.
I wondered about trying the head from AFVClub's Wittmann figure on it,
but never got around to it after losing interest in doing '007'.
Have you seen/considered the DToys 'Wittmann' figure?
The kettle's on if pop along
But bring your own tea, the tea's God awful here.
Best, Grant.
