I really like how your dio is coming together Ron, the smocks look very nice and seem to be a good replication, sorry to hear about the hairspray messing up your paint but you seem to have salvaged it well. Keep on going and don't get too frustrated, yeah it's easy to say but you will have a very nice scene when it's finished.

That's a good looking jeep there Alan I can't wait to see it in a dio.

My build hasn't really progressed much, still working on determining what parts I'm going to put on pre-paint and what's going to be left for post-paint.
so far the post paint list includes - the suspension units, any open hatches, hull mounted tools, any thing else I'm forgetting?

Bloody hell! Everybody is in warp speed...LOL. Finished a load or paras(photos to come) and picked up a couple of bits off e-bay at silly prices. Got the DML 250/1 Neu for £18 instead of £30 plus and the Resicast POW's Alan's built for £20 instead of £38. Bargain! Still ferreting about for stuff.
There's some excellent builds going on here from what I've seen so far. Glad I suggested this as it looks to be one of the most interesting campaigns for ages and the work so far is top notch!

This really is one of the most active campaign threads I remember. Great Idea Karl and nice work on the figs btw. I picked up some Wee Friends paras as well as the old verlinden Para carrying his wounded mate and am going to get started on them soon. I wanted to have them passing a knocked out german vehicle, If I can't find anything in my stash I might go with this old Pzr IV

There were a couple knocked out at Arnhem., I've stripped the paint and need to add new schurtzen and tracks.

Hi Karl,

Thanks, I'm starting to get into this one. Are the 2nd two figures the Resicast ones? I was wondering about the size comparison with the MB set?

Cheers

Hi Al, yeah they're both Resicast ones. Lovely to build as you know. Sizewise they come out about the same height as the Masterbox ones. No discenable difference. The MB ones are nice as I've been chopping and changing them about to get more poses out of them like the guy leaning over with the sten. Wasn't over-enamoured with the helmets so I've been using Resicast and Hornet heads which you can't go wrong with . Really getting into this build in a big way now. I'm going to do all my figsand buildings before I start on the vehicles. I have a nasty feeling that this will end up the same size as my Normandy dio!

Things have gone a gear or two in this campaign!
Some good builds,indeed!

Does anyone have a few airborne helmets and/or gear left over?
The MB set is quite sparse on those and I would like to use them to add more life to my build.

Hi Karl,

Thanks, good to know, more possibilities. Your Normandy dio was a cracker, but I know what you mean, things tend to grow

Edit:

thought this chap might be useful so gave him a quick re-paint.

Hi Guys,

Well taking Karl's advice I got a set of the MB Paras and started on them this week.

I'll see how they turn out.

Djeez Alan!
Are you building an entire division???
The look good, though!

I didn't like the way the base looked, so I ripped off the vegetation and substituted it for the shorter plants I refered to. I also cut up the box and made it smaller.
The base now:

detailshot:

I did some painting too and finished (sort of) the glider pilot.
I used Tamiya's dark yellow as basecolour and deep green and red brown for the pattern. I thinned those down quite a bit, wiped off the brush befor making the typical brushmark-like pattern. Then I gave it a slight wash with black to create depth in the smock. I think I should have taken a less dark wash.
The big bruise is actually a cover-up for a painting mishap, but i like it that way. I added a bit of red and blue to it.

Hi Ron,

Ha, not a Division just a Brigade .

I like your new ground work. Smock looks good, the glider pilot is coming along well.

Great stuff.

Hi Shane, welcome along.

Have fun.

Hi Guys,.

This is the first of the MB Airborne I tried. Dumped all the MB kit and used Tamiya and Accurate Armour equipment, head from Hornet. I would have prefered a camo tin pot but I shall have to get a few of those.

What I do like about these are the separate bottoms of the jacket. This leaves possibilities for easy leg changes and I will try a few of the tops with some walking Tamiya legs for added variety. Sorry abont the poor pics. Working on some stores for the jeep too.

Al

Hi Shaun,

Thanks.

Some more work on the troops.

I didn't like the way the Bren gunner had his hands over the barrel of the gun so I thought it might be OK cradled in his arms?

Re-painted the beret and some possible passengers for the jeep plus working on the load.

HI mate , the bren gunner looks fine to me, brens are varly heavy and it would make perfect sense to cradle such a weapon, besides the pose look real natural too,
great work

Nice work Alan, I agree about the Bren looks fine the way you have it.
You see plenty of the multi sten magazine pouches in photos of D Day but I don't recall any from Arnhem. I wonder why weren't they popular with the troops?

Prehapes it was to difficult to get in to it will lying prone, as it seems quite high on the chest, or it restricted movement, or could cause injury on a jump, but tis a good question though
