Here is my completed Tamiya Panzer II.

The kit was built straight from the box. The only thing I did to modify it was to use my pin vise to drill out the ends of the machine gun barrel, the main gun barrel and the tailpipe on the exhaust.

I went around the tank and used German gray to make it look like the Africa mustard paint was rubbing off showing a vehicle that had been previously painted gray. I then dusted with some earth tone pastel and called it good.

Thanks again for the campaign Bruce. I will post my pictures in the gallery.

I am looking forward to Blitzkrieg III

Randy now that I have taken another look at your Panzer II, I noticed how real the jack looks. What process did you go through to accomplish this?

p.s. lived in Colorado 1991-2003, been to Wyoming several times.

Nothing fancy. I just painted the two restraining straps (brackets) the same color as the vehicle. I then painted the jack Tamiya German Grey XF-63. Then I dry brushed it with some Tamiya Metallic Grey XF-56 to show some wear. I am sure others have other colors they use but I like the way these two colors look together. I also use the same colors and process for the metal parts on the other tools as well such as the shovel.

Hope that this helps you out some.

Talk to you later.

Hello Randy,
Great looking Pz III. With all of the German tanks, The Allies look to be out numbered.
Thanks for you photo's and being in the campaign.

Next Summer will be Blitz 3: Italy. It will encompass Sicily and Italy.
I will start a thread in January 2101, So keep any eye out and start thinking about it.
Cheers,
Bruce

Still thinking of Tamiya's new Matilda, but I don't know a lot about British armor (armour) colors (colours). Who does?

Does anyone know if Tamiya's callouts for the Caunter scheme on 32nd Tank Brigade are correct? They suggest XF-23 Light Blue, XF-59 Desert Yellow and XF-10 Flat Brown.

Any advise appreciated! Thanks!!

You're welcome. Thank you for the comments. I wish I was a better photographer. The kit looks better in person than it does in the picture. Oh well, something else for me to work on.

Hello All,
@ Randy,
I am glad you find my campaigns interesting. I do try to find things that has not been done.
@ Keith,
Good looking Pz VI. Make sure you get a photo in the gallery for your ribbon. Thanks for participating in the campaign.

Note to all: We have 30 days to get done, There will not be an extension for the campaign which means I need to get started on mine.
Cheers,
Bruce

Very nice Pz. II, Randy. Nice subtle effect for the worn of desert paint.

Cool Pz. IV, Keith. Is this vehicle from the Eastern Front and not Africa? I might be wrong as I do not have my references at hand right now.

Hello Randy,
That Pz IV could have been one of the vehicles sent to shore up the defenses in late 1943.
I have asked Keith to clarify the model. I do know that some Pz IV with the long 7.5cm gun where sent to Africa towards the end of the North African Campaign.
Cheers,
Bruce

I have never seen this type of Pz. IV in Africa. I think this is a late Ausf. G or Early ausf. H, but difficult to see from the pictures. I have never seen the side schutzen used in Africa. Anyway, the 24th PD was definitely not in Africa.

However, I checked my references last evening regarding 24th PD. As far as I can read, the 24th Panzer division fought exclusively on the Eastern Front, BUT after being destroyed in the fighting for Stalingrad the 24th PD was raised again in spring 1943 in France. On the way back to the Eastern Front the 24th PD had a brief stay in Italy in April 1943.

I guess this actually fulfills the needs of the campaign? Whether this type of Pz. IV was with 24th PD in Italy is a little more doubtful, but maybe give Keith the benefit of the doubt. None of us were there to check in 1943, so it could possibly maybe have been there...

Hello Jesper,
I ask Keith to tell me some about his model.
It is a Pz IV Aust F2 known as the MKIV Special to the British in the western desert. It may not have came with side armor, But he thought it looked better with it on.
I am taking Keith at his word that it was in Africa during the time period.
Thanks for your research into the 24th PD. It will help when I run a Blitzkrieg campaign on Russia in a few years from now.
Cheers,
Bruce

Thanks Jesper,

As I mentioned in a previous post it looks better in person than in the photo. I am starting to feel more comfortable with weathering. I should have done more on this kit but I am always afraid of doing too much. I guess this one hasn't been in North Africa for too long.

Thanks again,

Hello All,
We have 25 days left to go and no extension will be allowed. I am going to allow all builders a 24 hour grace period to up load the photos before I award the ribbon.

@ Randy,
I agree with Jesper, Your weathering was very subtle. Great looking Pz II. Thanks for taking the time to be in the campaign and make sure you get a photo into the gallery.

I have yet to start on mine, so I have 25 days to get done Good thing I am doing a 1/48 model. The littler the scale the faster You can get done, Right.

Bruce

Hi all
This is my entry to this campaign. I only have one major problem - I don't know how to get the pictures onto the official campaign gallery. I've tried, but it dosen't work for me, and I hate to loose this ribbon.

Really impressive work, Jacob!
I think your weathering looks very effective and credible.

I still haven't received my paint..... so I started anyway by using Tamiya colours.... at least on the Rommel's 250/3.
