Robert,

It's an old Roundhouse Trains freightcar kit box, just the right size for a travelling toolkit. And the Italeri jeep is interesting if you don't mind assembling the body from flat panels (unlike the one-piece Tamiya offering). Besides, I can get three of them for the price of the Tamiya kit! Well worth a go...

Andrzej they just want to keep our modeling skills growing for their next kit.

Right... "Build our kit and you won't grumble on any other kit anymore!" Good advertisment .

Wrong! They are preparing us for their next product: "Modeler's Assistant"... who'll probably be a Chinese working for pennies per hour

By the way, I already started a new project... but I'm addicted to playing Modern Warfare 2 online and can't upload my photos... darn! Not good, since I'll be leaving for an Turkish Army base within two weeks!

Plant I work in was recently bought by company from Bejing... I'll be in the next "Modeler's Assistant" edition
Concerning computer games - I have the same problem with Republic Commando .
On the other hand, you have your training started already - soon you will be playing "Modern Warfare" without computer

Naaah, wouldn't want "real" Modern Warfare 2 if we think about the rate I get killed in the game... I have one "life" in real life after all... They'll also make me mop up the floor or skin potatoes or stuff like that rather than running around with a gun. Or worse, since I'm a university graduate with an MBA, I'll probably be a secretary or accountant for the Army.

I wouldn't buy you as an assistant, you would cost too much with your skills

Enough chatter, I REALLY should upload my model's photos here and then keep working on it.

Emre
Being accountant for the Army you may find some mistake costing the Army 0,000003€ per ammo round. Fixing it will give significant savings for Army and you may earn a medal. 3 years after that Hoolywood will buy rights to this story and 5 years later you will see a movie telling a story of Emre The Army Accountant (starring Johnny Depp) revealing evil plot of Corrupted General (Al Pacino) who’s goal would be buying huge amount of cheap ammo costing the Army 30€ per round. 29€ from each round would be going to Corrupted General’s pocket. Our Hero Emre would have to fight Corrupted General to save Army’s budget and rescue his beautiful informer – Corrupted General’s Assistant (Jessica Alba)

Don’t worry about me as your Modeler’s Assistant… I would ask my salary in beer (it would affect my modeling skills so the salary would not be so big as you think…

Sorry for that…

Andrzej, I'll take Megan Fox instead of Jessica Alba. Then we have a deal for the film rights

Well, enough chatter. I finally found some time to upload my photos (actually there was a problem with my internet connection, which created too much lag to play Modern Warfare 2 online! )

Here's the kit I'll be working on. And no, it's not a Tamiya rip-off like earlier Academy Mutts, this one's a new mold (2002).

It comes with full engine detail. First I decided to spice it up by installing all cables and pipes and stuff. Then I looked at the size of the overall model (dude, it's a tiny jeep!) and decided to cover the engine and forget about it.

The box has two options. You can build an open top M151A2 with an MG and radios and lots of stuff. Or you can build a closed top one with a trailer. I wanted to show off some paintwork, so I chose the closed top version. Unfortunately, that meants sacrificing all those nice details, radios, machine gun and radio antenna parts. I might use them for a special sci-fi project, who knows?

Well, I guess Academy wants you to build the open top version... as this is what you get for the closed top! Uh-huh!

The trailer is easy to assemble, again with open and closed top options. Again, I chose closed top have more area to paint.

And here's where things got stuck, all Modern Warfare 2's fault . I think I'm kind of addicted to the game.

Emre, you can have Megan Fox if you like (I'll keep Jessica ).
You're model looks good so far - it seems to be much more detailed than my M1025... No fit problems I presume?

Except for the stupid sink marks inside the body as in the photos, it goes together like a dream. I might even be convinced to buy Academy's Sheridan kit after this one (although I don't like the tank itself, heh heee).

@Emre: Clean job so far and for keeping your assistant in line.

@Andrzej: Sounds like you have the script written and ready to sell to Hollywood good luck

Wow! This thread's a bit quiet these last few weeks...

Anyhow, I have made some progress on my humble Jeep, but have a dilema. I'm also building a KO'd Panther for another campaign, and want to use the Jeep in it, so I suppose it can't still qualify in this campaign as well. However, I will still post progress on it. And, to fill the gap I have thrown together Tamiya's old but nice GPA amphibeous Jeep! The 2 1/2 ton truck is also in the starting blocks...

The (defecting) Jeep:

And its replacement:

(The GPA wheels aren't stuck on yet - one push and over it goes!)

More progress to be posted over the holiday break...

Tom

PS: Emri, nice M151! I love the covered trailer.

A bit late to start but I just got Revell's 1/35 Mercedes Wolf. Unfortunatly it's the short wheel-base version so not suitable to convert into something like this:

But I'll find something a bit more intersting than the rather plain looking box-art version....

Cheers,
Sean

Nice choice, Sean. Looking forward to follow your progress.

I have started my entry for this campaign. The Italeri AB 41 armoured car. Pictures to follow later.

Here are some pictures of my AB 41.

This kit has a bad reputation, but so far it comes together fine although all the armour plating is made up of many small parts and is difficult to align. However, no problems a little bit of filler will not solve.

The suspension is beautiful and very detailed. It is sad it will be covered by the superstructure and the wheels. Tempting to make a diorama where a whell is being changed or the armd. car is tilted on to its side.

More to follow.....

Although the time is late. I would like to try my hand at this model. It is probably not as nice as the Trumpter kit, but I am trying to go through the stash of what I have instead of purchasing more kits. I just completed a M48 A2GA2 for the NATO build in 3 tone NATO camo so I am hoping that the LAV-25 (Pre 2001) may have been painted in a solid green or other interesting scheme rather than desert tan or Scapp.

As there is absolutely no way I will be able to finish my project on time, I've officially dropped out of this campaign.

So far some very impressive works being shown.

Nice choice, Eric. I know what you mean about the stash.... I have never build the Italeri LAV-25, but I have heard it should be a nice kit despite the wheels being a little to small and not "square" enough. Looking forward to follow your build.

I have made a little more progress over the holidays - construction is almost finished. Then it is on to the painting. A small extension might be needed - would that be possible?

More to follow....

Hey everbody,
Finally finished my entry for this campaign. I'm sure you all recognize the old Italeri 2 1/2 ton truck and tamiya fiures in the back. Anyway enjoy! All comments welcome!

Greetings all. Some really nice builds happening here. I'm getting a rather late start due to biting off too many campaigns. Here is my entry for Mighty Wheels.

I got started today and have already run into a few snags for what appeared to be such an easy kit.The suspension components looked really simple in the instructions but have turned out to be a challenge. They are positively tiny with even smaller pieces jutting off them. I've already broken some and have had to do my best to reassemble them. You can see what I'm talking about in this picture:

Then there were some mounting holes that were not large enough to accept other parts locating pins.

So back to work. Two Hours and I've got about two thirds of the suspension components in place. I just hope that I've got all the axles aligned proper so that all the wheels will sit flush.

Cheers,
Jan

Great work so far Gentlemen!

@ Art - thanks for posting these pics, your model looks very nice. I can't paint OD vehicles to make them look real enough and I do admire people who can...

@ Grumpy - sorry to see your resignation. Maybe we could discuss some small extension if it would make you stay with us? Huh?

As for my entry I didn't touch the model since last pictures... a lot of stuff is going on in my life in this moment and I've also stuck with my other campaign, but I promise to finish this one on time.

I just have some small question for modern vehicles builders: what would be best Humbrol color for US tan? I want to paint my HUMVEE as it was used during Desert Storm in '91.

Hello All and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here's some pics of my progress on my Dragon 234/1. Its a wonderful kit with no issues to speak of. It is stock, useing only the parts provided in the kit. I am about 60% done with the painting/weathering. Next will come more weathering, pigments chipping dirt etc. Comments are encourged. Anthony Palumbo, Ant88

@Robert Ah, come on now Robert. 1/72 is gigantic compared to 1/144.

A small update after some experimenting at creating the miniscule handles for the engine compartment hatches. First up, someone PMed me asking to see pictures of the hull interior pieces. I'm sure they have their reasons (scratching an interior). The white styrene tabs are glued there for use as clamping points for the painting process.

The first handle in place. Dimension wise it's just over 1/16 " wide or overall dimensions in metric of a little less than 3 mm wide and stands about 1 mm high. After flubbing a good inch and a half of wire (37 mm) I finally broke down and created a small styrene jig for bending. The camera was set on "super macro" and although the handle looks a little off in the picture I asure you that under a 5X magnifier it is quite straight.

Just for curiosity sake here's a picture of the handle from the inside. Note that I damaged the clamping point strip but it was repaired after the picture was taken.

I still have more holes to drill and hopefully will finish the engine deck handles today. If my eyesight and nerves hold out.

Thanks for looking,
Jan
