hi Tom, just like you made some of the cobblestones on the ground different colours, you can add some different colours to the bricks.

i checked out the Painting Guide videos at the Miniart site which were quite interesting:

I plan on doing the same thing to the bricks on the building. I have also watched those video's they are a lot of help. Thank you for the comments. I can go on from there with the diorama. Hopefully I will be able to post come more pictures tommorrow. Thanks again. Your diorama is looking great also.

Here are a couple more pictures. The Germans are done with the exception of weathering. I did the different colors of the bricks. Any other suggestions? I am going to do the Russians and more work on the building and base tommorrow.

thanks Sal for the kind words. the sidewalk and cobblestone are scratchbuilt from cork. the link on my previous message leads to my blog where i detail how i put the base together. first time making stuff from cork, it's pretty cool to work with. cheers, mh.

hellhound that diorama looks great. I had followed it from the begining. Well here are a few more shots of mine. I was able to finnish painting the Russians and weather them, the Germans and the base. It was my first time using powdwers. Tommorrow I will do all the finnish work and start attaching everything to the base.

Here is my completed entery for the campaign. It is Miniart 36014 Infantry in the city, with 1 1/4 kits of Masterbox 3517 German Captives. I used a couple of Verlinden heads on the German prisoners, plus some Tamiya arms on two of the Russian gaurds. The debris was made from basa wood, and molds from Kancali. The building and base were painted with acrylic paints from Delta Cream Coat and Craftsmat, then sprayed with a coat of Model Master's flat clear. The figures were painted with Vallejo, Tamiya and Model Masters acrylic paints. Weathering was done with Bragdon Enterprises weathering dusts, and for the wood Blacken-It. The glass for the windows and light post is Dioramas Plus lazer shattered glass. Here are some pictures of the finished diorama. I am also putting three pictures in the campaign gallery.







I want to thank everyone I bugged for help in completing this. Plus everbody who had put tips to building these kits easier. As always all comments are welcome. Now on to the next campaign.

nice crowd you put together there Tom, it does make an interesting scene. good clean build on the Miniart kit, as we all know here they aren't the easiest to assemble and you made a sweet entry for the campaign. cheers, mh.

Thanks, I learned alot during this campaign. I now know some of the tricks for the Miniart buildings. Learned to use weathering powders. I had a blast , looking foward to next years version of this campaign.

Guys, I'm going to have to drop from the campaign. I thought I would have time to work on my entry this week when I got back, but more issues have been coming up and I am thoroughly exhausted.

Sorry it's too late, the signed up members got a months extension, from the original end date of 31 Au,g to finish builds- alas it's not possible to sign up now.

We will be having another campaign next year.
Speaking of which shouold we start discussing that now. My plan would be to up the ante a bit and widen the scope to any material not just Miniart so that we can explore different techniques in cork, plaster etc.

thanks Pat for the kind words on my diorama. had lots of fun and learned a lot.

as for the next campaign, since it is about learning new building methods maybe it can be about scratchbuilding? to make it more open to all skill levels maybe the topic could allow any amount of custom work, from making your own roof/floors, adding your homemade rubble to complete scratchbuilt buildings or walls. even just adding your own gutter or window frames could classify the project for the campaign.

would want it to be as open to enlisting as many modelers as possible so it could also include adding more damage to a kit made from plaster, ceramic or plastic. as long as it contains some extra effort and shows how the modeler did the work it would qualify.

My thoughts are that we should continue with the Mini-art theme but add to it. Maybe make a requirement that the main building should be a Mini-art structure but that other items such as cork, plaster, cardboard, balsam wood or whatever must be added to the build. Just my $.02

Pat: Was it mandatory to make it a complete diorama with at least a vehicle and/or figures or does finishing the diorama base itself also suffice?

I believe you were thinking about the next campaign being similar to this one, but allowing other manufacturer's building kits regardless of the medium. I like the ideas for incorporating scratchbuilding into the next campaign, but I would consider only requiring a minimum of scratchbuilding to allow for those less experienced such as myself. Just my $0.02

Pat; as said before would love to do another campaign like this and try out some new stuff picked up from this one. I myself would like to add to Mini Art Theme of builds with other manfactures buildings and accesories.

Looking over the brief for the campaign it says
1) This is a diorama campaign so any dio or vignette using one or more Miniart dio base or building is acceptable.
2) The Miniart building can be built out of the box, combined with other kits or converted using wood, plaster, cork etc.
3) Vehicles are not compulsory but are encouraged.
4) Any time period the Buildings are suitable for will be accepted
5) Multiple submissions are acceptable but only one ribbon will be awarded.
6) Three photos of the completed item are required for award of the ribbon.
7) Work must be started and completed within the designated timeframe.

So without going into what the definition of a dio or a vignette is I would say that finishing the base itself is sufficient.

just was reviewing all the great photos in the campaign folder and i noticed there are a few that only had 1 or 2 pics uploaded.

i believe the requirement for the ribbon was 3 photos uploaded (Pat, is this correct?).

so, if this is correct, could Roman, eMan, HeyLoad and anyone else ensure they have 3 pics of the finished diorama in the campaign folder super soon. just trying to help make sure everyone is rewarded for their hard work.
