Thanks Ron - Have not decided on a base yet. Might be small w/ just the two figures or might finally build the Humvee w/ the ZSU23 in the back. Depends how motivated I get - LOL. Also, your train station dio looks great. Figures look VG & I like the cut off train car.

Thanks John-Paul - the color layering is working - fig's look very nice.

My 2nd fig finished, few shots of build and primer. Now just have to decide on the camo, I'm thinking maybe Desert DPM or maybe even Woodland for a bigger contrast w/ the 1st figure.

Small add. - did the std. black wash and white drybrush, blocked in Woodland colors on pants and started highlites on green.

Keep up the good work fellow figure painters!

Here's the latest from my entry. I finished shading and highlighting the infantrymen's pants and got all of their web equipment painted.
Shadows for the pants were added by mixing Vallejo German Camo Black Brown to the base color, while highlights were made by mixing Vallejo Buff.

The web gear was painted with Vallejo Dark Yellow, Desert Yellow, Khaki, and Buff, and Tamiya Dark Yellow and Desert Yellow. M1 bayonet scabbards were painted Tamiya Khaki Drab, while any other knife scabbards were painted Tamiya Red Brown highlighted with Vallejo German Camo Pale Brown to simulate leather. These latter colors were also used for the yelling NCO's pistol holster.

All but two of the entrenching tools' handles were painted Vallejo Buff and wiped with Burnt Sienna oil paint to give a faint indication of wood grain. The other two e-tools were given Khaki Drab handles. All metal buckles and buttons, as well as hand grenades, were painted Vallejo Gunmetal Gray, while the metal caps to the canteens were painted Vallejo Oily Steel The radio and the handles to all knives/bayonets were painted with Tamiya Nato Black.
That's it for now. Next up I hope to finish the tank crewmen then begin tackling the flesh areas and boots of the infantrymen.

Hi Brian, it's the Historicus Forma forum , which is a separate, figure orientated forum.

There is some great progress going on here!
Thanks for the updates, guys!

I'll be sitting down today to have a go at the last 6 figures.....

There is still plenty of time in this campaign, so I hope to do a few more figures form my stash under the workbench.

Hi Paval,

Brits are looking good. On the strap for the respirator it should be a khaki colour not green like the case.

A few more, some BFE chaps I'm working on:

I have wanted to do some BEF troops for some time and the group build got me going again on them. I'm using 4 of the Tamiya British Infantry, 2 figures from SKP and another of the Tamiya Figures from the Churchill kit.

The main difference in equipment is adding the long No 1 Bayonet, I'm using the Ultracast set for that, plus changing out the weapons. For the SMLE I'll use the old Italeri rifles and as they are BEF I want one of them to carry the Boys AT Rifle so again I'll use one form the Old Italeri set. Some additional equipment will be added to the Officer from the very useful Resicast UK Infantry Equipment set 35.5528.

The other main change to the Tamiya infantry is to give them backsides as they were designe to have the short digging tool and their rears are somewhat flat without them.

I have also changed out all the heads for Hornet/Resicast ones with the exception of the pointing soldier on whom I'm undecided yet. I've altered an arm for the SKP infantryman so that he can have a weapon over his right shoulder.

For painting I'll ise a base coat of Tamiya XF 52 Flat earth and this I have applied to the whole body and heads. For the Uniforms I'll use Vallejo English Uniform 70921. Webbing will be Tamiya Buff XF 57 with a touch of XF 60 Dark Yellow and some Mig filters in the form of Brown for Desert Yellow and Brown for Dark Green. Facial painting will be done with thwe Life Color set, and some Tamiya XF 7 Red for colour. Matt black for the soldiers boots and an officer brown for the the officers boots that I'll mix up. For the rifles/wood I'll use vallejo yellow orch and Tamiya Red Brown, plus some Gun Metal. Strapps will be made from 0.4mm rolled lead wire I get from Plus Models and roll flaat with a paper roller

hello

some great stuff here. good job.

alan thank you for pointing that out. will repaint it tonight.

here is some more progress. the shadow/higlights are done on the uniforms. need to do boots and straps for the rifles. will add decals for unit patches on sholders from masterbox set. the figs will eventually stand by bren carier but thats not done yet and as i am working on the jeep at the moment i used that. its tamiya kit with completly scratched stuff to make it an airborne version. i was inspired by the operation market garden campaign especially alans jeeps.

thak you for looking

Here are my first completed figures for the campaign.

The flesh tones were painted using Vallejo acrylics while the tankers' crash helmets were painted a mix of Tamiya Khaki Drab and Olive Green, as well as some Vallejo Medium Olive and Buff according to the TLAR (that looks about right) principle. Armored Division and rank patches are from Archer.
So five down, a dozen to go. I hope to have them done in the next week or two, and will post pics as soon as they're finished.

hi everyone

nice work ed.

i have now finished my british commandos. It was a pleasant build. I thing I might pick up another set of these. Nice folds on uniforms made them easier to paint.

Well, I didn't sit down to paint my remaining figures last friday. I didn't do anything on them at all so far... My attention was focused elsewhere...

- Jim, your Japanese dio is fantastic! Not something you see everyday!

- Ian, your woodland scheme has turned out very good on yet another set you don't see that often! The tankers will be done soon, too, I see. Job well done!

- Alan, it is always a pleasure to see you have a go at figures.... I really do believe you like them better than you do the vehicles!!
Those Tommy-helmets, are those the original Tamiya ones? Mine looked far to small to be acurate.

- Pavel, your jeep and figures are smashing! I like the one with the PIAT the best!
Did commandos use the airborne markings on their jeeps too?

- Ed, you have done great on these US tankers. I really like the one with the hat! What make is it?

Thanks for sharing these figures and do not forget to post them in the gallery!!

Hi Ron,

The heads are a mixture of Hornet, Resicast and the pointing chap has his original Tamiya head still in place, so far lol, lol.

Hi Pavel,

Looking good. I would use buff for the bandoliers and rifle slings, it will also give you a nice contrast to the webbing.

hi

Ron - jeep is there just to provide a substitute for a bren carrier which I am rebuilding at the moment. Jeep is just a build I did at the same time and had it on the workbench.

Alan - thanks i will try to repaint those but am struggling with getting the buff color right.

thank for all the comments

Lots of great entries so far.

Ron, the figure wearing the hat/soft tanker's headgear is a combination of a Warriors Body with an Alpine Miniatures head.

Thanks for all of the comments and feedback.

Well, I figured it was about time to finally get something going, but a little late on the start compared to others. There is a great deal of outstanding work showing up already and very ambitious projects. I can't wait to see some of these dioramas finished up. Mine is a little less involved, but hope to get both done in time. First and main focus project is to get some crew for my Tamiya PzKpfw III 'L' (Afrika Korp) based around the "Tahk" figure set with a couple add ons.

Next is to add some Panzergrenadiers or Volksgrenadiers to my Tamiya Hetzer diorama base and will use primarily the Dragon figures.

Close to finished w/ my 2nd figure - still waiting on AM head for 1st figure.

The colors I used. I mix the light and the shadow for the overall base and then I come back and shadow and highlight w/ the two initial colors. I find that works better for me than tinting one color light and dark w/ black & white.

And w/ shirt blended and skin and head wrap blocked in:

Here's work so far on the crew for the PzKpfw III;

Al - No way I can keep up with the quality, much less quantity of your figures work. I marvel at your productivity, and with the truly outstanding work... just remarkable. Then with all the others in this Campaign, I'm humbled and inspired.
