Lots of work showing up here - looking good.
Ron - You are correct, left arm not right. I chopped a piece out and increased the angle. The red shirt is actually typical of photos & vids of the Ogaden war in the late 70's.
Finished web gear and started skin tones / weapon on my 1st figure. Head's not ready yet.
Also started 2nd - he will have his foot on a jerry can or wall or something... The shemagh / keffiyea was not as hard as I thought. There is actually a YouTubby vid of how it's wrapped.

Here's an update on my entries. First of all, I should say that the figures depict typically equipped American troops in March-May 1945. Once again, I'll start with the tank crews.
I tried to make sure that no pieces of equipment were the same color from figure to figure for the four crewmen destined for the same tank just to make things interesting. The jackets were painted Tamiya Dark Yellow, Vallejo Khaki, and Vallejo Dark Yellow. At least one will be in Vallejo Dark Yellow once my bottle of paint arrives. The crewmen's overalls were painted either Tamiya Dark Yellow or Vallejo Desert Yellow. The jumpsuits/overalls (whatever you call them) were painted variations of Tamiya Olive Green.
Now for the infantry platoon.
The green field jackets were all based on Tamiya Olive Green with Vallejo Medium Olive, Tamiya Dark Yellow, or Vallejo Buff mixed in to vary the tone. Those variations are the reason for all the color codes on the styrofoam base to help me remember which combinations to use. The raincoat the one soldier is wearing was painted Tamiya Dark yellow.
Once I was done shadowing and highlighting the jackets, I blocked in the pants using Vallejo Field Drab, Vallejo English Uniform, Tamiya Khaki, and Tamiya Olive Green on the soldier wearing the raincoat. Once again, I was trying to keep things interesting by varying the uniform tones. Next up is shadowing and highlighting the pants and either fleshtones or webgear and boots, whichever strikes my fancy.

Great work, Tom!
I really like the extend of the comversion and the vivid colours!
Are you going to use these guys in a vignette or a dio?
Glad to see I'm not the only one with a productionline, Ed!
I've put mine on hold untill the dioramabase is done, so I can put them in place right after they're done.

hi guys
my first campain. I will be painting four dragon figs from british infantry in nwe. Hopefully will put them up one day in dio together with the bren carrier but that has been put on the backburner as trying to make tamyia jeep into a british airborne one and make a vignette from the pegasus bridge as well.
figures have been put together and painted with base colour. I use humbrol and agama enamel to paint my figs and models.

So if it is down when a campaign closes will we get credit with just our photos in the campaign forum?

Hi everyone!
Some amazing progress so far. I love seeing everyone's production lines. I am posting my initial pics for this campaign. To answer the question above, I started posting my pics on Flickr.com and have several photostreams of my current campaigns there now. Unfortunately, the limit for the free account is 200 pictures, and I just hit 175- so I either have to upgrade or start deleting!
Here is a link to my photostream for this campaign on Flickr - (http://www.flickr.com/photos/billycash/sets/72157623146582761/)
For this campaign I am going to build a smallish dio that focuses on the figures I have here. My official entry are these- Russian POWs from Warrior. I just started them last weekend. I am also going to include a squad of MPs that I started for the Bitter Taste of Defeat campaign. I have another Warrior MP who I started a couple weeks back.
I am going to title the Dio The Spoils of War. It will depict the Russion POWs walking homeward through a village while the US MPS loiter, hit on girls, and direct traffic. I am going to scratchbuild a smallish building with a cafe and garage. In the garage, I will put a German Kuppelwagon that I started last night. I am not sure who is going to be inspecting the loot, but there will be a second story above the cafe- and I am not saying yet what I am putting here but I assure you it will be juicy!
So that's about it. Here are the figs I am using.
What these pics show is my tendency to pre paint everything. I had my current production line out for paint because I caught a bit of sun, and so these guys got an inital coat of basically a mix of Tamiya flat white with a random mix some Reaper and Vallejo paints- red and ochre basically that I was using to try to get a good skin tone. So these guys have a first coat of paint even though I still have filling, sanding and resin removal to do still. While some would probably be critical of my painting method- it works for me because the end result is always different for each figure. Because of the multi-layers of sometimes seemingly random colors, no two figures are ever alike in my production line. You can also see that in the other figures here. Note that most of these are not for this campaign-
Winter's Onset Near Moscow
My current production line.
This rifleman is from Dragon's 101st in Bastogne
Figure on the left is a Warrior resin figure I just started. On the right, a left over from Miniart I believe. Came with the jeep I am using for the Bitter Taste of Defeat, and has been on my production line for sometime.
The following two have been on my production line for a while. They are a bit dark, but I figured they were just about ready for oils, so I moved them to my 'oil production line' and out of the way of the ones I am painting with acrylics.
The lighting is ok, but kind of shining directly on them. Since they are so dark it is hard to see the details. I think these two are ready for oils...
Finally these are my materials that I will be using for my dio base. Maybe I can start tonight!!!
Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy!
Billy

Good to see your well on your way, Marovek.
Thomas, don't worry. I am sure the problems with server and storagespace will be solved befor this campaign ends, so you can get your pictures uploaded befor the end. If not I will have to go through the entire campaignthread in order to get everyone their ribbons...
Nice collection of figures you have there, Billy. You should try to cut down on the browns though...

I hear you Ron. I think I am ready to move to other colors such as greens as it seems like I have been painting brown since November. I am used to painting large areas- so painting figs is painstakingly slow for me. It literally takes me 30-40 min. to go through three to four drops of paint, thinning as I go a bit with alcohol. Combine this with the fact that it is winter and here in Oregon I don't get many hours of natural light to see with.
So yeah I think I am ready for a new color also. good suggestion...
What about you? I have enjoyed watching your build both here and in the Bitter Taste. I don't exactly understand your changes though. Choosing new troops for the rail dio, or a different project all together?
I have been meaning to show you a couple pix of my own rail project- so I will try to get to that today and post them in the other (BTOD) thread.
take it easy

hi there
this is how i moved forward in painting my brits.
will finish all four heads today but daylights gone and i dont want to take any more pics without it.
all painted with humbrol paints. Base coat is humbrol h61 - flash, shades done with mixture of flesh and red brown h186. Highlights flesh with white h34. Added bit of red to paint lower lip. Hair which you cant see are mixture of black and brown. I always try to paint eyes little bit off center looking either left or right as its easier they dont squint.
thats all for now hopefully move on to uniforms tomorrow.
thanks

G'day troops
Finally got under way, and my entry will be the DML Gen 2 set "Last Battle Austria 1945"
there will now be a pause for a while as I try to figure out how to load the photos!

Time for me to post another update of my painting. It's going much slower than I expected but that's life... Currently I'm working only on the one figure to get it done and then I will concentrate on the second one.
Here's a rifle.
I decided to upgrade the straps to be more realistic. Just a few thin plastic stripes cut to lenght and here it is:
After finishing and painting it looks like this:
This the back of the figure. I think it's already done on this side. I have to paint a lot of details on his front side yet.

@ Billy; At first I wanted to do 4 North Vietnamese troops, but instead I am going for these Russians as I want to finish The diorama they'll be in.
@ Pavel; Your faces look smashing! Much better than mine
@ Michal; Progress looks good. The extra detailing sure does make a difference.
I finally picked up the brushes and figures to do some serious damage. I used Vallejopaints and I have to figure out how to use those to my advantage...
Here's my progress on the first bunch of commies, whom I am trying to make look dirty, tired, battleworn. For now I concentrated on the faces and hands.
I kind off like the way his face turned out; dark, mean, dirty and unshaved.
This one look a bit odd, so I have to pay more attention to him.

Here is my attempt.
I tried oils last night but made a total mess of it. I found an article (top hit on google for "painting 1/48 figures) using acrylics.
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/tnt1/101-200/tnt130_Figure-painting_Wenman/tnt130.htm
And it seemed to make more sense to me as a first try than the method in Shep Paines book.
This layering as opposed to blending. The flesh base is GW dwarf skin with a little skull white.
The raf uniform is XF-18. Other colours are blocked in with XF49 khaki XF10 brown XF3 yellow.
I added XF10 to the flesh mix for shades and and XF2 for highlights.
XF1 to the XF18 for shades.
I've only done the faces and uniform colours but it is looking ok and much better than the oils. An easier technique for the beginner I think.
What do youse reckon? I think I might put crew into every plane now, this is kinda fun Gives a bit of life.
I'm not sure about painting eyes. I think just darkened in the socket is enough for 1/48.
BTW Neo, Those african troops look brilliant.

Thanks Pavel.
So, JP, you couldn't resist, could you??
I think these are very good, given the scale.
The blue and yellow sure look good and do make a difference. Putting them in a plane would benefit both the figures and the plane!
I finished my first 5 figures!!
Woohoow!!
All the green are basically Vallejo's Russian uniform green, mixed with greens, browns and sandcolours. This way a nice variety was achieved. When dry I drybrushed them all with a sandy beige and gave them washes of black and brown.
The rifleslings and helmetstraps are made front ordinary printingpaper. When moist it is easily shaped and looses its natural resistance.

hi
nice looking flyboys John. Would like to se them seated in there machines.
good job Ron on finishing your figures. I like the whole set up.
little update on my progress. Only the heads are finished. Waiting for everything to dry all the way so i can start the swadow/highlight game. Added bit of equipment from spare box and from tamyia set british inf on patrol. plus piat and piat ammo. straps are from tissue and from tea candle metal pot if you know what i mean.
this is what a little dio might look like one day. team of commandoes entering a village on dday. the bren carrier is a tamyia kit i built years ago and is currently undergoing facelift.
thanks
p.s. they will have guns i promise
