Hi
We’ve discussed several campaign ideas with Emre Efli and we think that it would be interesting to have “Not Fighting Vehicle” campaign.
Idea is simple – [b] the vehicle would have to be built specifically for military purposes or be a civilian vehicle obviously used by military (markings, painting etc), but it could not have any fighting ability (no weapons installed).
Therefore trucks, cars, motorcycles, bikes, locomotives, wagons, engineering vehicles, tractors, etc. would be the subject of this campaign as long as they would not have ANY weapon installed (submachine gun laying on back sit is allowed ).
Any scale, any era (so it may be a horse cart or chariot as well ).
Proposed start date 01.01.2011
Proposed end date: 30.09.2011 (9months should be enough).
Who would be interested in this subject? What do you think?
Andrzej

Hi Andrzej,
Back in November Jim Tried to drum up some support for a Red Ball Express Campaign
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/148804&page=1
But I don't think it went to far or got much support. This is sort of on the same line but expanded much more. I have a GMC 2 1/2 Ton 6x6 in the stash that needs to be built. I was saving it for the Red Ball Express, but that don't look as if it going anywhere. So you can count me in.

Great to see that you are interested.
I think that Red Ball Express campaign did not get enough support because of quite narrow range of vehicles mathing this campaign.

I could go for it too, but may I clarify the weapons issue? Most WW2 US trucks Jeeps etc came with rifle brackets as standard - do these still count as "unarmed"? (I assume a ring-mounted .50cal is clearly out of bounds.) If so I have a few that I too was planning to save for the Red Ball campaign...

Suggested rules adjustment: no heavy weapons allowed; weapons lighter than machine guns may be installed on board
Tom, is it better now? What do you think?

Andrzej,
I'd suggest "No vehicle-mounted weapons (other than standard-issue vehicle crew small-arms in factory-fitted stowage brackets) allowed." That way it doesn't open the door to adding loose HMGs, rockets, AT guns etc as cargo since that violates the idea of the non-combat theme.
By the way, did you notice the similar soft-skins proposal? I'll enter both, but didn't know if you'd get more takers by merging them?

Andrzej,
That's ok - I'm definitely in!
Tom
PS: Does that mean you've got one of those nice German steam locos to build?...

I have several vehicles that match this campaign... Halftrack, some motorcycles, and yes, BR52 as well

I'd be interested. The time frame suggested should be long enough. Have several to fit the bill.
Cheers!

EDIT: A question just to get this straight: Any American recovery vehicles (such as the Dragon Wagon, M31 or M32) would be out of this because they have a .50 cal. MG (or .30 cal. in the case of the M31) on top, right? Same would go for the M5 high speed tractor.
Cheers!

Guys, you are seriously trying to make me angry!
OK: Weapon is allowed if its use was not main vehicles purpose (so ie recovery vehicles with guns or bridge-layers with guns). Tank with a plow is not what I mean though...
It should be clear enough now... I hope

Andrzej,
The tech term is that only standard-fitted AA/anti-personnel defense weapons are allowed. (That would include the MG42 on a bergpanzer as well as the .50cal on US stuff.) However, as these were all removable you could always model the vehicle either without the gun or with it suitably stowed...
Me, I'm looking at things with no more than the old rifle bracket, and even then it might be empty!

Hello Andrzej,
Still have my support, I have too many trucks, jeeps and similar stuff lying in my stash. However, I think we should exclude any mounted weapons. The MGs in Bergepanzers are removable, they can be modeled as removed and stowed away. Otherwise, any Sdkfz 251 would be viable since they carry the same firepower with a Bergepanzer
We can say no heavy weapons and/or vehicle mounted armament is allowed. Crew weapons left lying around are okay, since they are not integral parts of the vehicle anyway.
I'd say:
1. The main purpose of the vehicle should be anything but fighting (or assault).
2. No mounted on weapons or heavy weapons, MGs, guns, mortars, etc allowed.
So you can build a Jeep if you like, but a Jeep with a .50 cal mounted on wouldn't count since it can fight on its own.

I could get into this one for the sake of making a 1/48 aviation fuel truck or something.

Andrzej,
I would have to agree as the title of the campaign is non- fighting Vehicles. Still leaves plenty of choice for guys to chose from.

Anyone interested?

It seems we have enough people interested to have this campaign approved.
I’ve just submitted it and now we have to wait for Gary to approve (or reject) it.
In the meantime you may want to build something different for once: I’d like to invite you to Crusades Campaign (click my banner) that just started on Historicus Forma .
