i'll post some pics of him when i've finished painting him up. he still needs a bit more clean up and sanding (just finished the headgear and goggles so they have to harden).

cheers and happy modeling, bd.

Well here are my two finished projects.

Thank you for looking. I had fun with this campaign. It was interesting trying to get the figures to look like I wanted them to.

Thanks again,

A little more progress on my tank hunters. The main colours are on and the initial wash is done. Next is the skin areas and main uniform areas. The neck of the NCO needs to be sanded and repainted.

More to follow

Thanks, Sal. I appreciate it. The slings are made of normal paper except for the crawling guy. There the sling is made of milliput and plastic strips.

More to follow.

Thank you Alan, I appreciate the kind feedback. The figure didn't quite turn out like I wanted it to but I gues it isn't too bad. It would be itchy and with my hay fever I could never have done that.

Thanks again,

I have now finished my German tank hunters. It is old Tamiya figures with new Verlinden heads and some new equipment and weapons. I plan to include them in a diorama later, so at that time the boots and lower pants will have some more dirt/mud.

Comments welcome.

I have to say, everyone here is doing nice work. It makes one really focus on what else can be done to improve one's own figures.
I'm still not positive about the figures' positions. I posed the rear gunner sitting on the top edge of the armor plate, but that looked very uncomfortable. Further study of the photo and research makes me think he's probably just leaning back against the armor and actually standing on piled up sandbags on the Mutt floor. Not sure if I'll fix that.
I've been reading on painting faces, although as I wrote before, they'll all wear sunglasses, so their eyes won't be seen anyway. Time to stop dragging my feet and start making progress again. Everything I read said that practice is the key, so I've just got to start doing it.
I'm making MP armbands (brassards?) out of my thinnest plastic card, sanded thinner and softened with plenty of liquid cement. I haven't tried sculpting putty yet, so if these efforts fail, I'll try that next.
My home is just about ready for winter, so back to the workbench I go.

Hi Bruce and Jasper,

Nice work guys.

Sean,

Welcome along.

These are two other figuers I'm working on they are the two German Sailors from the Biber Submarine that I'm finishing as a RN Officer and Chief Petty Officer (Gunners Mate). No big changes, some new heads, a new arm and cuff plus removing some of the German insignia and button from the uniforms.

Nice work, guys!!

Great conversions and painting!

Unfortunately I haven't done anything and on top of that one of my cats ruined my beachobstaclebase....
I really need to get my modelling going again, but I just don't know how...

Hi Ron,

Just follow the thread, you should get some inspiration from it. Animals, you either love em or hate em .

These are my LRDG chaps, the alterations were minor but they are about done. No alteration was made to the driver or the kneeling figure but they were photographed at the same time.

The two Warrior Figuers - new pistol ammo pouches only

The 3 standing NWM LRDG Chaps - drilled out the hand of the standing figure (in webbing) and added a SMLE. Added a rifle strap to the other chappie in the sheepskin and nothing done on the kneeling guy.

Driver and commander - only added a new pistol holster to the commander for better definition

The gang

I finally put some paint on my Viet Nam era Army MP's. Not quite done painting the unit shield on the brassards. Didn't create their sunglasses yet either. Dullcote will knock off the shine.
This photo gave me a new appreciation of the excellent work that you experienced guys are doing. I thought these guys looked alright, but the close-up photo really shows where I came up short. The hand-painted lettering doesn't look that bad at arm's length. I'll need a darker wash-- as a model railroader, I only used acrylic burnt umber with rubbing alcohol for a medium, which works well to weather wooden parts but not in this application. Next time I'll use actual thinner and artist oils.
NearlypaintedfigsRt-20101202-0639
Again, the sunglasses will hide some detail. More photos when I'm done.

Hi all,

Well finally got round to starting the campaign properly!
Figure n# 1 is a tanker for the Tamiya Pz II tha I've got on the bench. I'm using the kit figure, but havw chopped him a bit.

The plan is to have him in the turet looking down at a map (I think!)

The arm sliced up & a bit of brass stock to hold it in position.

Now just got to file in all the gaps.

Cheers, Paul

Thanks, Al.
Nice start, Paul.
For myself, I'm in the final stretch. I finished painting the figures, and here I made the sunglasses I had been dwelling on...
Sunglasses1-20101204-1422
Sunglasses2-20101204-1444
Sunglasses3-20101204-2020
I'll follow the dullcote in the last photo with Future Floor Polish to shine up the sunglasses, the M16's, and a leather holster not shown here.
More soon
Sean.

It has been awfully quite here lately, probably because I didn't pay much/any attention to this campaign.

I have picked up my entry again, however and am hoping to finish it befor the end!

It's still 2 more weeks!!!

After an extended absence, I'm back with my finished entry. Camera issues made it impossible to get shots of the steps between now and the base coat stage, but I'll try to explain what came in between.

All six crewmen were heavily modified Tamiya German figures, but the three standing at the front of the crew compartment are my entry. The fleshtones were painted in Vallejo acrylics, as was the webgear, boots, and leggings.
The highlights on the uniforms were added by mixing an increasing amount of Vallejo Buff to the base colors. Once the figures were in place on the vehicle, they received a light dusting of the same mix of Mig pigments used on the rest of the vehicle for an appropriately dusty look. There's another pic in the campaign gallery, as well as more pics of the M7 and crew in my gallery.

Not sure if I'll get to finish these by the deadline, but I'll try. I'm using the DML Dragon US Tank Crew (6054). I'm going to trry to finish at least one figure. The changes aren't major, mostly detailing, but hey, you've got to start somewhere.

Before (I built these a long time ago, and they need some serious work: filling seams, possible some sculpting of clothing pieces, which would be a first for me):

I started working on the commander and driver.

Commander. I added the headphone wire so far, made out of copper wire and drafting tape. Still to do: strap for goggles, possible resculpting of left hand to make it grip the right one.

Driver. I added the headphone wire out of wire and drafting tape; also made the strap for the goggles as well as the straps that hold it to the helmet. Stil to do: some seam filling. I'm debating whether or not to add legs, as I'm not sure yet what tank this guy will end up in.

Let me know what you think....
