You bet Sal, looking forward to seeing how it works for you. You're builds are all coming along quite quickly, I think I need to loosen up a bit and just focus on having fun with my builds rather than getting hung up on making them nice

Sal - clean build so far. I always glue everything together and use the Shep Payne motto, "if you can see it, you can paint it."
Hi Jeremy - what r u planning?
Rick - thanks so much for the tip. luckily I didn't use much glue on the hatch and can switch to Army guys instead

Didn't get much done this week but thought I'd post anyway...
I tried soldering brass for the first time and after an hour and a half I got three pieces done ...with fifteen more to do I quit....
I decided I better just thin out the kit fenders and use a pair of pliers to bend then out of shape a bit...
I've added PE bolts to where the rear muffler shrouds should go but all pictures I've seen of DR Tigers at Kursk don't seem to have them ...but the attachement points are there ...go figure??
So that's it for now..
Rick

By the way would it not have been easier to separate each fender ?

Thanks for the comments and the reason I didn't completely separate the fenders is that since they don't give the reenforcement strips for each panel I didn't want them to be too widely spread out and the lack interior detail to be noticable....I did use an exacto to cut them apart half way through though..
Now let's see some pictures ...Why didn't you get much done today??? Did I give you too many books to read by any chance....

Hi Jeremy - what r u planning?
I'm going with a dragon King Tiger production with zimm, will be my first KT and my first whitewash and I'm really looking forward to it!
Btw, your build is looking good Creg! Judging by the hole in the zimm can we expect to see a galloping knight in red, green, or yellow maybe?
Rick: Very nice work, hope you don't mind if I scratch your brain for a few suggestions here an there?

Richard, Greg your Tigers are looking good. I made some more progress on mine as well. I tried my hand for the first time at making Zimm out of Squadrons White putty and a hobby knife No pictures yet cause daughter took the camera But As I slept I came up with a way to thin the putty out for the sides and will try that tomorrow Now for the big question My Tiger has a seam around the top of the turret, should that be a weld seam or should I fill it in with putty

Sal: Very definitely weld seams bud, shown as clearly as those old photos possibly can in some of my books. I can scan the pics for you tomorrow if they would be of help to you, but they are somewhat grainy and over or under exposed so detail isn't at it's best.

Thanks kid ...ain't going to just let you get bragging rights that easily..
(For those who might be following this thread ,Kid,Bigcat,Joycraft and I are friends and we are all building Tigers to take to a show next fall,so bragging rights will go to the one who's kit places the highest at the show...no money or anything else is at stake but just bragging rights for a year is enough to take it to the next level!!)

Very good then Sal, I would like to have a look at the walkaround if you don't mind sharing
Regarding the zim, I would not use wax. If it even gets hit by a little light from a window for any real length of time it will start softening.
If you want to use the squadron putty then you should thin it with some nailpolish remover. The putty itself just dries way to fast, but mixing it with the nailpolish remover will soften it and extend your working time, and you won't have to worry about the stuff sticking to your fingers or tools.
I have a two part putty that's supposed to work real well for just this application and was recommended by one of the lhs's here, I'm trying to find it so I can send you a picture...
Also of note, the guys who were talking to me about applying my own zimmerit coatings to my models recommend that I apply whatever I use very thinly.

Thanks Jeremy, I'll try the nail polish method on the side panel. Yeah I was trying to get it on as thin as possible and still be able to see the ridges. He is the walk around link

Thanks for sharing the link, the pictures have great fidelity and there are 5 great pictures of the weld bead you were looking for. I'll have to bookmark this one for my future Tiger I builds

Well, being that I'm a typical late joiner for 'Campaigns', and haven't been doing any modeling for a few months, this should work. Got my new job secured, on Holiday vacation with time for 'me' now and needing something to get me modeling again. This fits great and it's a "Tiger" Campaign on top of all that! Just too good to pass up. I'm hoping to do two Tiger-Bs from my stash. I've got the Dragon #6302 (Porsche turret) for a sPzAbt 506 in Arnhem and Dragon #6254 for sSS PzAbt 501 in "Bulge" as the planned projects.
I previously did a Tamiya 1/48 Tiger-B for a Campaign a while back and had a sSS PzAbt 501 (SS-Obersturmführer Dollinger’s Tiger 213) at La Gleize (Werimont Farm).
So my first build will be the Dragon #6254 1/35 version of that King Tiger. Thanks for putting this together.

Did a little bit of work tonight, after three hours of wrapping presents for my 3 year old daughter...
Box contents:
A word of warning. This is my first Tiger, so I'm a "Tiger Virgin" and the number of road wheels about floored me. I did manage to get the first step of the instructions completed (installing the lower suspension arms to each side) and one side of the running gear was made up and test fit to see the overall fit of the overlapping wheels.
As I'm off tomorrow and the day is pretty much free (except for making some turkey chili in the slow cooker for dinner tomorrow night) I'll try and get the other half of the running gear cleaned up and put together, hopefully get them mounted on toothpicks to spray the primer, then black, then Dunkelgelb base coat.

Just a very small update before turning myself into Santa Claus for my daughter...
Ho Ho Holy Road Wheels Batman! The only thing I was able to get finished today was a coat of Red Oxide Primer (PolyScale) airbrushed on ALL the wheels, the idlers and the drive sprocket.
But, at least I got something model related done today. Hope each and every one of you has a wonderful holiday period! May all your visions of styrene and resin dancing in your heads come true!
