Hi Pat ...looks pretty darn good...I'd sand down some of ther ridges on the turret ,but it looks fine to me...I'm more a resin zimmerit type guy (Chicken!) So hats off for doing it yourself .. Keep it up.

Ok guys here is what my Tiger is looking like with the homemade zim
then I started to add some green for the 1st layer of camo. No particular pattern just going by what I have seen in some photos
Still trying to figure out this airbrush painting This is the first time I'm doing a thin stripe camo scheme

Greg thanks for the comment . Got some more work done today. The redbrown was sprayed on the other day then a light greenish yellow filter was applied
Tools painted tow cables added tracks completed and then a dark filter was added
Now I have to finish painting the tracks and the commander, add the MG and decals then some washes and mud
Liked this Tiger so much that I just made a trade to build 1 for the Desert fox Campaign

Matt: I've never worked with the Cavalier sets before, was thinking about giving them a try sometime.
Wouter: Nice job on the weld bead!
Sal: I think this is turning out to be your best work so far
Pat: Nice job with the zim, I find Milliput very difficult to work with like that.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments, whats that old saying practice, practice, practice and then when you got it right do it again I think the Zimm would have turned out a lot better if I had 1 of Pat's modelkasten tools. Does anyone know where to get 1 in the US googal is sending me to all Japanese websites

Sal: I'm striking out too. There are also zimmerit applicator tools by AFV, LionRoar, and Tamiya and all are available in the US. Check out Sprue Brothers, Great Models, or ebay.

Well, it has been a while, and when we last left my Tiger 1 I was lamenting about the open grills.
Thanks to eBay, and a seller who really didn't know what he was doing, I managed to fix both my problems for under $18.00. Dragon's 1/35 Tiger 1 Late "3 n 1" with a bonus set of the Lion Roar PE grill covers.
The Dragon kit already has the PE in the box for the grills, so now I have my set for this Tiger. And the Dragon kit has a rough radiator/fuel cell that I thought I could use on this one as well. I decided to use it, but not in the kit...
This is the Dragon part, it's basic, but better than nothing. And it fit for the most part in the Tamiya hull:
But then I got to thinking about scratchbuilding a pair for this kit and leave the Dragon ones for the "other" Tiger:
I always have wanted to do something like this, but in all fairness the closest I've come to modifying ANY kit in my life was plumbing the engines on the AMT/Ertl NASCAR kits of the mid 1980s. Not exactly the most challenging.
I digress... so I dug out my Evergreen stockpile and figure out what I need, get out the trusty XACTO miter (or mitre for you across the pond) saw and start at it:
Everything was measured from the Dragon kit to my scratchbuilt part, down to 1/32", which was the lowest my steel 6" ruler has markings for. After about three hours of measuring and cutting, this is what I ended up with:
Here is a shot of the one I actually built (other is in pieces for tomorrow night) test fit in the Tamiya lower hull:
Of course, I put the upper deck on and this is what you can ACTUALLY see, before I put the mesh screens on:
Hopefully after painting and detailing you will be able to see something under those grills. Even if I can't, I know that it's in there, and I made it myself. Soon, PAINT on this beast.

Hi Matt,
Excellent job on the engine bay, nice to see you use Imperial measurements rather than Metric. I hope you will be able to see something after all that work, still as you say - YOU know it's there and that's all that counts.
All the best,
Paul

Hi Guys,
I think i'm finished except I'm still working on the commander Please let me know what you think as this was my 1st Tiger build and 1st time i attempted to make Zimm
Didn't want to mud this 1 up as I have seen photos of Tigers in Normandy streets without mud
Also need to take some better photos tomorrow and spray it with a coat of dull

Reb: Hang in there and don't worry about this, there's plenty of time. Heck, you'll probably finish yours before I even start mine
Sal: That came out real nice, hoping my first Tiger/KT comes out as well

Hi Folks,
Now that I have finished my Pz IVD for the Workhorse Campaign, I am just posting photos of the model I intend to do first in this campaign. It is the Dragon Elephant, with Atak resin zimmerit upgrade, RB barrel and Part photo-etch. I hope to get cracking with it over the rest of the weekend and will publish a build log as I go along.
All the best,
Paul

Hi Jeremy,
Indeed, those are they. I got the set off Ebay and I think the top glacis plate is missing, easy enough to fabricate though, might even use the kit part. Are you thinking of getting one for your three Elephants you plan to do? This is the Lonewulf site:
http://www.lonewulfmodels.co.uk/view_product.php?c_id=25&sc_id=59&p_id=739
If the postage is prohibitive, we could investigate me posting it to you to save money. I have got stuff to order from them and could order the set for the same postage, then post it on to you. Anyway I can help, glad to do it.
All the best,
Paul

Much thanks for the offer Paul, that sounds like an option worth looking into. Let me look through some of the other stuff they have and see if there isn't anything else useful and what they would want for shipping.
