I thought you folks might like to see this "what if" I built for another forum. We did a "Post Apocalyptic" Group Build on Model Cars Magazine's site. I was heavy into cars for 15 years so this sort of bridged the gap. I used an old Revell 1/24th scale Chevy Silverado Pickup, that was customized in the box with a Ski Doo. I bought the kit a decade ago just for the ski doo.

I raised the suspension, tricked it out, and here's what happened:

I used the rear quarter window glass to create working hatches. I added a 1/35th scale Tamiya PaK 75 for some punch. The laptop is from a Lindbergh Dodge Police Car kit.

I felt that after the fall the USMC would form it's 3rd Provisional Defense Brigade. It would be a bunch of old farts such as myself who still can get er done but require some comforts.

Enjoy!

corsair, No problem. It's looking great. I'd just add some periscope heads to the upper hull for the troops to be able to look out. You could probably rig up a couple of remote MG42s for the rear.

G, I love the bolt detail and the add on armor. That could have fit into the End of Days Campaign. I'd love to see some Trucker Lady or Yosemite Sam mudflaps on it.

Finally started the weathering more than 2 years after I opened the box. Just a wash and a flat coat for now. Its been more than 4 years since I last weathered an AFV...going to have to think about how I go about it from here.

Jeff: I didn't realize that this was your first campaign, very well done! I'm over in both the Panther and 1/48 campaigns, but haven't had much face time lately.

Alex: I have to say those snorkels really make your build!

Peter: You should do a little custom groundwork for your base to enhance the Fallout 3 feel and give the proper atmosphere.

JP: Looking forward to seeing more, those prototype skirts look real good with the Panther turret.

G: Very cool, thanks for sharing

Graeme: I forgot, I was going to ask what you used to create your weld bead?

Thanks guys!

Jeff - the weld beads in this case are 2-part putty (brand: Apoxie Sculpt), rolled out and textured with a dental pic. I usually go for stretch sprue textured with a soldering iron or a #11 blade.

Graeme: the flak gun came out really well. It really came out production looking!! For weathering, I'd keep it light.

Yep, I think I will keep the weathering light. I've added a layer of grime, some fading, and some rust. I will probably not do any chipping on this...if I do, it will be really restrained. I still need to add a few dirt effects of the wheels and give some depth to the tracks.

Cheers guys! There's not a huge back story to it. It's predicated on the idea that the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (RCAC) retained integral Air Defence based on a tank chassis. The concept was not new - although Air Defence was typically the mandate of the Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA), the RCAC operated vehicles such as Staghound AA and Crusader III AA.

Originally, I wanted to do an immediate post war AA..something like a Skink Turret on a M4A3E8 hull and a "what if" deployment to Korea as part of 25 CIB.

This build assumes that when the RCAC purchased Centurion MBT's in the 1950's, that, along with ARV and AVLB variants, they also added SPAAG version. The early one would not have had radar, TI, or air conditioning; just fair weather optical sight - think Duster turret on a Centurion hull and you get the idea (oooohh....hmmmm).

As the RCAC continually upgraded the Centurion MBT (IR, 105mm gun, extended range, etc), so too was the Twin Forty upgraded. My version depicts the latest version of the Twin Forty, around 1971, as part of 4 CMBG in Germany.
