Hi Everyone,

Long-time modeler after a long hiatus, first-time poster. Just picked up the Meg VsKfz 617 kit, can't wait to get started. Plan to build it strictly OOTB - a completed kit is victory enough.

And in the unlikely scenario that I complete early and can find time...might tackle the Trumpeter Triebwagen 51 that had been staring at me for months...

Hi all....

Well, I don't know about any of you, but I am going to start reshaping plastic. Figure that a lot of you may have other builds you are finishing, or a BEAST to tame...

Not sure where to find a newspaper in this town at this time in the morning... not even sure our store (that's it.... one store) is open yet. So, the computer screen will just have to do....

I know they are crappy images... but the build ones will be better. You can see that I have already marked up the upper hull for the cuts, etc.

I am going to convert the Flame Hetzer into a ST-III of the Czech army. The ST-III was a drivers training vehicle used late 40's/early 50's. The major modifications are shown below....

There was a revised drivers area with an inset view port, a raised instructors pulpit where the gun had been and a large box on the roof that allowed the other students to look out.

Should be a fairly simple conversion. Which as we all know are famous last words in modeling.... They rank right up there with "Hold my beer and watch this!"

Phill,

Hey bud... take care and jump in when you feel up to it. Not like it will all be over tomorrow is it?

As for me, well, I have been getting the top hull ready for actually building the conversion....

I filled and sanded all the surfaces, and filled in the rather large hole where the gun would have gone. Then I made another hole where the drivers vision block will go as well as marking out the box on the top. Got to love super glue and kicker for filling... no muss, no fuss and not a lot of time either.

AS for my build i will go with Dragons Landwasserschlepper Prototype #1 OOB
Photobucket

Sal .. Not sure what range we looking at here ..something in the 100m length i am thinking either way its gonna be huge fun . i know there's going to be a Kar98,L1A1's,Springfield 30.06 sniper and god knows what else will turn up
That Land/water/tractor is the same one i am going to build for the Dragon OOB campaign ..its easy and fast and as for the colour ..ummmmm nope ,,no idea

Well ... HERE IT IS!!!

The first opening of the kit!

At first I was disappointed at the lack of parts, but then realized this thing is spring activated (no batteries or motors) so I am looking forward to finding out what THATS all about.

Molded in color so there's still plenty of opportunity to weather it.

Who knows. Maybe it's the break I needed in a campaign ... an easy build! (I have 2 others going as well)

Hi Phil,
This is my entry into the Strange and Weird Campaign. It may seem like a mouse in an elephant herd compared to all the big armor being built by others, but it is strange, weird, military, and unique, and has some interesting history associated with it. The original is in the museum at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Howie Machine Gun Carrier with the builders, Fort Benning, Georgia, 1936.

Howie Machine Gun Carrier w/1917 Browning water cooled machine gun mounted.
The model will be mostly scratch built except for the Browning MG from a Master Box kit and wheels and tires from a toy John Deere front-end loader.
Cheers,
Dick

@ Dick.... Well, Howie about that? Sorry, I tried to restrain myself, but it didn't work. This will be an interesting little build and I am interested in how it comes out...

@ Jeff.... Interesting looking kit. I think once you have enhanced the wood tone on all the pieces that you will have the build 3/4s done.

@ Sal.... Not sure what the color should actually be. You could do in in primer with fitting chalk marks for a totally different color.

@ Phill.... I don't think my build will be done by next week... Although it is coming along....

The major structural work is completed on the conversion parts. Now for the detailing of them. As you can see I have started on the upper box.... still have the sides of it to do.

Bob ,, She's coming along nicely man .. the normal work is easy its all those little bits which will make the time extend , another little project but this is one thing i am liking alot about you guys,, they might be small but damn they are interesting as hell ,,well done guys

Now I am going to be buggering off soon and won't be here for 2 too 3 days or so ,, triggers need pulling and then cleaning afterwards,,BBQ is going to be a mans BBQ,, steak and more steak ,slightly burnt ,,love that taste

Bob I'm gonna leave you in command I'll my butt returns, don't want these younglings getting out of control

Pill sounds like a real fun weekend, I stick to shorter ranges with my new retirement gift a Walther GSP Expert .22, and later in the month we get a little heaver with a Springfield XDM-9, and Colt 1911
If you or any 1 else is building this beast beware In step 3 they have you install part A40, the axle for the idler wheel upside down, if you follow the directions the wheel let alone the tracks wont go on. Also they say to use part A3 for the tow hook on the front of the hull, A3 is the return rollers, A53 are hooks that are to small, im still looking what to use here
Ok so step 3 completed road wheels and such just dry fit for the photo
Photobucket
Hopefully some more today

Oh sure, leave an inmate in charge of the asylum.... Of course, considering the idea of this campaign that might not be such a bad idea. Ok everyone, here's the plan.... go do something.

@ Dick.... I had to look the Howe up.... interesting little thing. Nice that it sparked an idea that resulted in the Jeep. I know you have your data, but did you happen to pick up the patent? It is interesting especially as it shows how the controls were laid out.

@ Sal..... Dragon makes beautiful kits, but you do have to keep your eyes open when it comes to the instructions. Almost looks like you can fill it with water and have a mobile pool...

Hi Bob,
Yes, I did see the patent drawings, and used them to determine the dimensions of some of the parts. I was particularly fascinated by the version with four driven wheels in back. Maybe someday I'll build one.

Dick,

As neat of an idea as it was, I don't think I would have wanted to crew one.... Somehow I would think that no matter what padding they used that the operators would have been black and blue after a while. Not to mention eating all the brush you could run through.

However, it was definitely a good try and I think that the inventors could be proud of the legacy that their little vehicle spawned.

Am very interested in how you go about this one... so when you get to it be sure to drop some pictures of the build.

Bob
