Thank you Francis! Probably won't be using a PE set. Mainly just brass bits out of the spares box for some of the MK 9 upgrades. I plan to fabricate the MK 9 turret upgrades with sheet stock. Rebuilding the engine deck was the toughest part so far. I sure wish one of the model companies would come out with a new MK 9 or a Stillbrew MK 10!!

I continued work on my Tamiya Chieftain conversion into a Berlin Brigade MK9. I added a new scratchbuilt radio box/antenna mount to the right side of the turret. After that I scratchbuilt the entire box/turret bustle for the rear of the turret and this was fabricated entirely from sheet stock. Some bits from the spares box were added as well to the new box. I just have to make one modification to the right side of the bustle itself. And so it continues...................

..............and a couple of more progress shots. I added the second scratch built sight housing on the turret and also attached several more details to the overall turret assembly.

And yet more sheet stock!!!!!!! The wheel wells have been blanked over and the motorization holes have been sanded and smoothed over. After all this, I am actually looking forward to painting the Berlin Brigade paint scheme.

Well here is some progress on my Chieftain....
I am all done at this point. I am letting it sit for a week with the vinyl tracks on to help it take shape

Jon, your Chieftain looks good. Should have a good Chiefie turn out for the campaign. Maybe we can muster up a troop of 'em.

Jon, you are correct. The quality of the moldings are really good when you consider just how old this Chieftain kit really is! I really didn't know much about the Chieftain before I started this project but it certainly is an impressive looking MBT.
Thanks Jesper-----Looking forward to the camo. Got the colors matched up so I should be good to go once I get the rest of the conversion items built.

Jon and Ian both your Chiefies are looking awesome, it almost makes me want to go out and get one.
That's going to have to wait though as the post guy delivered a large box to work yesterday which contained my M60A3.
It's tanks like the Chieftain, M60 & T-62 that really sum up the Cold war for me as they were the tanks facing off against each other in Germany as I grew up in the 70's & 80's.
Anyway here's the box shot along with a couple of extra resin bits for the M60 that I had lying around.

Thanks Darren! You hit the nail on the head....the M-60, T-62 and Chieftain really sum up the armored beasts of the Cold War. This campaign makes me want to read Sir John Hackett's "Third World War" again. Still remember that Chieftain photo from the book..."The counter-offensive rolls on. A British Chieftain speeds into action near Stuttgart!!" Looking forward to seeing your -60. That DEF offering really looks impressive. I almost bought one myself but I went with the Chieftain instead.
Best wishes, Ian

Here's a couple of memory lane shots from Germany in the 80's for a little inspiration.

Nice progress guys
I have finally conquered the tracks on my build and here it is with a coat of Futures
The carpet monster only ate 2 of those little "U" shaped things that went in between the treads
The figures are from the spare parts box
The decals were so old that most of them cracked but I was able to salvage 2 and found some others so now its on to the weathering stage

John The Centurion is in the campaign, the Conqueror was just for show, finished several years ago, always loved the look of it.
Sal I believe the TC and drivers hatches on an M26 lock open a bit lower then you have them, check some pictures for the exact placement. They only had 2 positions locked open and closed. I can't wait to see it finished.

Just to remind you guys that it was a very "Cold" War.
Also a shot of the 11th ACR motor pool in Fulda during the transition from M551A1s to M60A1s.

Sal, Nice work on that old dog. Looking back at some of those old Dragon its it's amazing what they put out now. Thomas is right about the hatch. I don't know the exact degree but I eyeballed mine so that it was over enough so that the commander wasn't bumping into the periscope. A word of warning though, it gets knocked off easy. I seem to knock it off each time I handle it. Mine is actually off of it right now.

Thanks for the complements guys and yes I did check som photos and my hatches are in the wrong position But they are also pretty well secured and I would have to brake them off to move them So they will stay that way for now. Mud was just added to the build tonight so I should have more photos tomorrow
