Just wanted to check in and say hello, having enlisted yesterday.
This will be my first campaign and also my first armour build.
I will be building the 1/35 Trumpeter BMP-1. Although I only started it yesterday I am really enjoying the build and despite a few oversights from the manufacturer I am very impressed with the kit itself
I have yet to decide what operator the model will represent but will be either an example from the Libyan or Sri Lankan Civil War.
I hope to post some in progress pictures in the near future.
Regards,
Mandrake

Hi Mandrake,
Welcome on board & thanks for enlisting, as someone who wants a BMP1 I can't wait to hear how it goes together & what she looks like.
They are some really great guys already enlisted & they are very helpful & supportive.
Cheers Mike

I just looked at this thread and there are some nice builds so far.
Christopher Ager (Kruppw), regarding your Lebanese dio, there's just one remark.. the red insignia on the side of the Land Rover belongs to the Lebanese party called "The Syrian Nationalistic Social Party".. and the writing on the back in white says "Mourabitoun" which is a totally different party.. so "IF" you want accuracy, you need to go with one or the other... if not, very.. very few people will know this
Good work by all participants!

Havent got alot of bench time lately, but i plan to change that tomorrow. Ive attatched the tarp roll and scratched some straps and buckles as well as painted them.
More to come!

Yes you could say that. I´ve just done a check, all together
19 campaigns of which 2 are my own.
And yes thats a good idea from Philippe, it looks like the good ole wine bottle foil but is it And what are the buckles, just bent 0.3mm brass rod
Those are my ingredients, but maybe you use something else.

Cool... we used to have cats, now it's all dogs.
Since I am primarily home most of the time now, they are some spoiled dogs that we rescued. Two of which I raised as puppies.
What kind of cat do you have Gary?

Oh no!
Cat food lids, why the hell didn´t I think of that. We must have thrown away 1/2 a tonne of those things .
From now on they will be saved . As my cat eats more than I drink wine, I should have a nice collection within a week

Here's my Main Man:
He's 75 pounds of all love but has a huge bite radius if you look like a threat.
Sorry for the off topic conversation! I really should be modeling but maybe after I get my 2 shots for the day.

Jeff, Hes a good lookin' fella! whats his Name? And what tha hecks in his mouth???
Paul, The lids are a bit thicker than foil and tough as heck yet very plyable! I just make sure i sand both sides thoroughly and the CA glue sticks great. They also have a bit of texture to them that lends itself to certain applications well or you can smooth the texture right out...very versitile!

Quick update while I have a moment.
Back on track with mounting the tracks. Popscicle stick shims. And brass nuts for weight...with them wings it kept wanting to fly away.
Coming together. Now I just need some figures to help identify and place the scene.
I don't have a lot of african heads. I kind of had to scavenge through the figures spares. Two of these figures are from the Academy Vietnam M113. I changed out the head for a modified soviet one. My original plan was to use the hands-on-hips figure as a tank commander. But I think I'm going to use him as the stereotypical militia guy. So I scavenged a US tanker from the spares, added a modified soviet tanker head, and whalla.
The lineup of figures I am probably going to be using. I'm not a fan of modeling graphic violence or even a whole lot of action poses. I debated on this one for a good bit. Civil wars are bloody affairs even unde rnormal situations. African civil conflicts tend to escalate into horrible cases of tribal based genocide. So, I decided to show it sort of. I think it's pretty easy to see where this one is going.
Anyway, figure are a mixture. Most of the soldiers' torsos come from an older NVA Sapper figure set, hence the old DML yellow plastic. Legs are a mix of mostly US soldiers. Still digging up heads. The kneeling guy is a mix of Tamiya legs from the crew of their Universal Carrier and the head and torso come from an old Verlinden POW figure. The cool cat with the shades is another Verlindin head. I think he's goign to be the squad's MG handler.
That's it for now. Quick and simple, trying to keep on top of the progress pictures.
Comments and Suggestions always welcomed.

Magic...they're actually the set of Magic Tracks that came with the kit. All I did to the tracks as far as paint was a coat of black and then a couple of dusting coats of darker gray. I haven't done any weathering on them yet. The shims I use to get the tracks to dry with a degree of sag across the tops of the roadwheels. The nuts keep the tracks from "floating".
Also, the ASU came out great.

Jeff, your dog looks possessed.
Gary, the ASU looks great.
Alex, nice work cobbling up all your figures, like the idea to 'show' tribal genocide. Really works well with the Civil War theme.
I think, before my accident I was in twelve or fourteen campaigns (can't remember which), two of which I'm running. Plus the Large Scale Builds campaign which I never actually enlisted in; and now there's the Common Wealth Thunder campaign which I'm in for and The Great War campaign too!
I'm still waiting on the insurance. It'll have been a month on the seventeenth. They'd have a fit if my bill was this late, but they've got no problem being this slow when it's their turn to pay.

OK first off i hate cats goes back to my dysfunctional childhood abuse but they do bring comfort to people so thats ok and I'm a dog lover and my little, 45 lbs Norwegian Elk Hound loves to cuddle but wont let ANYONE in the house
@ Gray looks great what was the trap made out of, same stuff
@ Alex lots of figures there looking good buddy
@Chris hang in there bro LIPA was sending out late notices on peoples electric bill to people that had no power after hurricane Sandy
Ok no on with the progress shots
Base coat color tracks painted and white walls
I was gonna use a modified Russian tanker in the turret but he didnt sit right so Ill spray it with some Futures tomorrow then add Ians NVA markings and start the weathering
P.S. Paul to shave off the fill caps and put on new ones would have been a b**ch with the PE brackets so I'll chalk it up to a 20 year old tank that seen lots of owners and use
